What's up, my little BoLA babes - been awhile!
We here at BoLA would like to wish you the most chaotic the happiest of Decembers. Been a bit of an odd year to say the least, so the hope is that you all have enjoyed having BoLA as a haven to make terrible jokes, poke harmless fun at each other, and hopefully gain some delightful flair along the way.
While the mods have been beginning our hibernation (featuring eggnog, midwest emo, and fanfic in my case - dunno about those other wierdos) we took some time to reevaluate the state of The Moratoriums. We have come up with some changes!
- HOA's are no longer embargoed.
- Mental Health posts have been moved to a permanent embargo.
- Dog bites have been moved to a permanent embargo.
important caveat - these can be changed at our discretion based on how posts go on them, so we will be keeping a closer eye than normal (i bought one of those novelty magnifying glasses just for the occasion) to make sure everything stays all hunky dory. however we have the utmost (sort of) faith that everything will be fine and we can revisit these again...whenever we get around to it. (i'd pretend that i'm busy but i'm really just watching a lot of sabrina the teenage witch reruns and /u/thor_the_bunny is off doing...idk, something weird)

Oddly amused that there is a cross over between two of my favourite subreddits. Player housing has been so much fun so far.
I'm still paralyzed on plot choice, so if you have any insights or advice, id love to hear it
The most important thing to know is you can change it for no additional cost - so you can try a plot and see what you think of it.
You can have a maximum of two plots for your warband account, one on the alliance side and one on the horde side. If you are in a guild, they can create a neighbourhood, the faction will depend on the faction of the character (guild leader) who creates the neighbourhood.
The survey I sent out for my guild asked if they wanted to be near other people, what biome they liked, and if they cared about a specific plot and we mapped out where everyone was grabbing before it went live.
There are a number of videos around that give virtual tours of the neighbourhoods, but you can visit them and have a look now in game if you wish. You do need a pre-order for the expansion upgrade to claim a plot.

Consider getting on the board, and if there isn't one already strongly consider hiring a management company. Along with dealing with vendors, proposals, taxes, etc a good property manager should keep the board under control if you get problem members.

We already have a management company but people have been annoyed with it. I think its better than the single person handling things initially. I mean, I appreciated that I was given absolutely no information on where to send over my dues (and confirmation of amount) but I also didn't appreciate getting a bill for a year's worth of overdue dues (I prepared for it so it wasn't a hurt to my budget, I still didn't appreciate it).
Best advice I can figure is get involved, bad HOAs thrive because the only people who get involved are the LAST people who should have any kind of authority. One or two normies getting involved early can stop the crazies becoming entrenched.
Absolutely planning on it. The formal handover meeting and election of the president/etc is soon and its already on my calendar.

How much inclusion of an embargoed topic gets a post removed? I have seen the Pluribus fridge ad post get removed a few times, because part of the OP was that it caused OOP's sister to think they were having a mental health episode when they were not. Can there be any discussion about that post as long as they don't focus on the mental health aspect, or is the mere mention of the suspected mental health episode enough that the post cannot be discussed?

it's generally a blanket ban. if a main point of the post is mental health issues, it gets removed. the fridge ad post was entirely due to schizophrenia, so it was an easy removal.
if it's a pretty basic post, but in a random line in the middle someone says "also, I have anxiety," it'll stay.
all that to say we do make sure that we're as careful as possible, so if there are questions at any point about a specific post or a moratorium, we're happy to discuss them in modmail as they come up.

See that's why you go for unique pieces in the story. I've had a couple interesting ones that only tangentially involved HOAs, but it was enough to kill it.
I've seen one or two where HOA's try to fine an OP, despite OP having documentation that they do not live within the HOA.
I've been noticing a lot more laxity around HOA posts showing up.
I'll keep my standards tho :)
