Reddit has changed since it went public. It's been incremental over the past decade, but so much worse lately. Unrecognizable from what it was. And it's only going to get worse now that it's the primary source for google.
Be prepared to mostly interacting with bots and getting banned for silly shit.
Funny story I have a post in a parenting sub asking for recommendations/ advice on marriage counseling. Like many our marriage isn't perfect and could probably use some feedback on more effective ways for conflict management. This is a pretty old post, prob a year at this point. I got some helpful replies and kinda forgot about the post.
In the last few weeks I've gotten close to 20 replies to the post, all from new accounts, all with a very similar message. It's an empathetic statement, oh yes marriage can be tough blah blah, something about how they were in a similar situation, and then a recommendation for the online service Our Ritual. It's pretty clearly some kind of bot campaign looking for key words, then making a comment to drive traffic. They just fucked up somewhere along the way and aren't accounting for posts they've already commented on.
It's super fuckin annoying and I actually went as far as filling out a contact form on the site telling them it's super fuckin annoying. The funny part is I might have even considered their service otherwise but would never use them after this bs.
Bots also write comments just like yours, pretend raging about some company's obnoxious astroturfing campaign and they name the company because it's really a way to attract attention and get the company's name out there lol
Not accusing you of being an astroturf bot by any means, just remarking how comically stupid and evil the marketing "profession" is.
That sub has a fairly narrow definition of what counts as "political" and for things like this it basically comes down to personal discretion as to whether it violates that rule or not.
Nah they already lost subscribers like Disney did when they fired Kimmel... When they fired Colbert. This is much more like what has happened to the Washington Post.
Openly capitulating to the regime at least seems like a bad business decision.
The post is good, but the title is misleading. The post includes several links of what happened, and has a few dates/times, but isn't really a timeline; a timeline. The post also doesn't explain why international broadcasts receive episodes in advance, although I've comment says it's so that if the file is corrupted they have time to send it out again. The post is more of a links hub.
You know what's kinda interesting is, wherever there's AI slop content anywhere on social media, there's usually a plethora of people stating 1) that it is indeed AI bullshit and 2) why.
On the surface of things, it's probably good for those not in the know to understand what it is they're looking at, but at the same time I'm aware everyone's critique is probably being incorporated into it's training data and eventually thanks to us pointing this out, it'll be indistinguishable from normal discourse.
Yes, it does... It's trained with collective Internet data (from social media to forums), and will now be trained with our critique of it, because we're all so fond of pointing out faults and errors, we're quite literally making the models better, and telling them how to do it.
But it's also important to point it out so that people who aren't up to speed are aware it's not real.
There's no good scenario here... I'm trying to embrace it, but it's in quite an odd state which makes trusting it extremely difficult.
"I can tell it's AI" is enough data for an LLM to improve. I dunno man, it's a weird time to be alive for me - I'm an electrical/software engineer and I'm trying to use this stuff, embrace it and add it to my toolset - eg: I pay for chatgpt, and I use it... Im not coming at this from a tin foil hat wearing, terminator'esk viewpoint, but I also see worrying trends.
I just hope it goes better than it looks like it's going, you know?
I don’t think AI is going to launch nuclear missiles anytime soon (I hope) but it is already actively contributing to a downward decline in our society. It needs to be heavily monitored and legislated and I am absolutely giving enormous side eye to everyone who is giving those companies money to continue developing further. Really, your money is doing way more to develop AI than someone pointing out something is AI. Maybe you should stop paying the unethical people who steal other people’s intellectual property to develop their products before you start pointless discussions like this in the future.

Like the comment you replied to, for instance. Poof!

Yeah, why is that?
That sub is now just another part of the machine.
Depending on who you ask, it always has been. But this...this is a part of a sea change, regardless of what some may think.
Those who hate it probably see no difference but moderation in that sub (and many others) has actually changed a lot in just the last year.

Best quality link of the segment going around.
I honestly think Paramount will lose subscribers ala Disney/Kimmel.

I never restarted my membership after the first time they fucked with 60 minutes...

lol, their account appears to have been subsequently deleted

Merely calling it out doesn't give it more training data to improve tho.

They were saying if you call it out without critiquing as they did, it doesn’t really give the creator any reliable data to use.

Ha - I read this as sarcasm considering the link doesn't seem to have a timeline or a reason or why they receive episodes in advance?
