I would warn people about this restaurant's very high 4.6 star rating, which stems from claiming that negative reviews are "defamatory". I had my review reinstated after giving google my receipt. The implausibly high rating is thus explained.

I had the exact same with FES restaurant. I learned if you attach a picture of the receipt and just give a star rating with some generic text there's not much they can do
Wow. What was your problem with FES? It’s my all time fav restaurant in Berlin. Going there a few times a year for over 10 years and always loved it.
This is pretty common for most restaurants and institutions in Berlin somehow. I know many people who had negative reviews removed.
Both Trustpilot and Google Reviews cannot be trusted

Done.
This is cool! Is there any way on this website to see the full list of Berlin businesses doing this? (Places to avoid). I tried the search function
This is a common method that restaurants use in Germany. Had a terrible experience in one at Hamburg, my review was deleted with the same reason. Google doesn't care and scared of legal stuff and they take those reviews down without questioning. While looking at restaurant ratings and reviews in Germany, I always sort them by date from newest. There you can possibly catch some honest ones before getting deleted. Otherwise if a restaurant has 4.9 stars, I would be very skeptical especially in Germany.
I did manage to get my review reinstated by showing my receipt, so it appears they care somewhat. But let's be honest almost no one will go through that amount of effort.
I sent them the credit card slip, didn't accept. Receipt, I either didn't get or threw away don't remember.
Keep your receipts, and add them to your reviews people! Thus, they won't get deleted
Mine was deleted even with receipts & pictures as evidence by this Praxisklinik Dr. Hasert. At this point, only name & shame work. I reported here obviously https://www.myreviewgotdeleted.com.
It says no reports on Dr. Hasert
Check the address

This happened to me too!! Even though I was a member of the gym. Really annoying
There's law firms that specialize in this stuff, Google just doesn't care. Got my negative review of UI academy removed even though I fought it. My last edit to the comment was that they were threatening to sue for the review.
Had this with a bike shop, suddenly the bike dude didnt know who i was and never sold me a bike etc. google takedowns in germany is working overtime because only 5 star reviews are allowed
I had the same issue with 12 Apostel
Are you sure it wasn’t delete by Google for being so verbose?
Without prejudice to the primary allegation of your comment, yes. My post includes the email from Google stating as much.
Had the same with:
- House of small wander
- YUNA
(wrote an honest review, they asked to delete). Anyways, i try to avoid them.
I’ve eaten a couple of meals there and had genuinely good experiences.
This may just be a result of a bad night rather than a bad restaurant
Taking down bad reviews doesn't scream "good restaurant" to me
You may be correct. A genuinely good restaurant's reviews will however reflect this without resorting to defamation claims.
Seriously, this review is not helpful. It’s difficult to read. The “beef and tomatoes that lay therein”? Just say: “Mediocre ravioli. Nice vibes but not worth the price” and be done with it. No one wants to hear about epithets, benchmarks, audacity….
I had the same feeling. The review is also imputing that a microwave is an unusal cooking device. The comparison to REWE is slightly cheeky. Btw, whats the definition of defamation? I think there should be an indicator for every restaurant how many recensions were removed...
... and prima facie : D
Helpfulness is subjective. There may be people who enjoy just that kind of review for those very reasons. Not all writing needs to be utilitarian.
Many bad businesses get their negative reviews removed and google uses always the term 'defamation' which simply doesn't exist in German law. I removed all my reviews, don't take google seriously anymore and won't write any reviews anymore.
it does exist in german law: § 187 StGB
I think Google is not to blame here but rather German law. This practice doesn't happen in other countries. If there was no precedent in German law a multi-million dollar company would not do this at the behest of a tiny Berlin restaurant. I've never had my review removed anywhere else but Germany.
We should make a list of all places who do this so everyone can avoid them.
I'm really annoyed by that. Since Google is always more on the side of the businesses I removed all my reviews and don't care about the reviews anymore. I even try to avoid places with a perfect rating.
This is every single place in Berlin. They all do it. It's all bullshit. Reviews don't mean anything.
Even as shitty as a (restaurant?) Bürgermeister does that. Good to know the tip to post it with receipts.
I have tried to get really unfair reviews removed from my business and it didn’t work with Google. Don’t know how they do it.
Can't afford to eat, much less in a restaurant. But hell, no, this outrage should not be .
There's always the 13. one...
Google reviews in Germany is a joke, so much censorship going on in a country that claims to be first world!
More an issue of Google and not Germany. The removal is completely based on their terms and the restaurants complaining. Which is an important function because especially in gastronomy there are malicious reviews intended to hurt the competition. But of course, the restaurants abuse this and report every somewhat negative review. Happened to me in other countries too though.
