Hi, I posted this long time ago on the Brussels subreddit but I forgot to crosspost here, too. This is also my first post here so sorry if it was asked before. My question is, are there any videogames that uses Belgium as their location? Not necessarily as the prime country, a single level or something would also qualify in my eyes.
The game below is Shadow Hearts: Covenant, a cult classic jrpg for the PS2. It tells a gothic / magical realist story around the first world war including Belgium, France, Wales, Germany, Italy, Russia and Japan

Battlefield 1 has maps in Belgium
The Belgian polar station was in Battlefield 4. Although is not really in Belgium.
Well... Today it could be :)
So does warthunder and well, this might seem obvious but euro truck simulator has belgium.
Yes!
Also, Medal Of Honor did have some Belgian locations.
Which one?
That’s over 20 years ago, so I had to google it.
“Key Belgian Locations Represented Ardennes Forest/Bastogne: A major setting for battles during the Battle of the Bulge, seen in European Assault and referenced in Heroes. Belgian Farms & Villages: Common elements in these winter-themed levels, featuring farmhouses, mills, and churches.”
Passendale map is a piece of art
Also, Battlefield 1942 and many other shooters have battle of the bulge maps
ZEEBRUGGE
Battlefield 5 Panzerstorm map is the German invasion of Belgium
Age of Empires II has the Burgundians as a civilization. Their castle is the Beersel Castle and their wonder is the Brussels Town Hall.
Also Flemish militia
I once timed that upgrade to a key moment and turned all my villagers into the militia. Flattened my bro her cavalier army, sended those militia to her town. Retrained villagers.
It was glorious
And then she kicked my ass 4 times in a row
Perfect 1302 re-enactment!
Oh yeah it is. We got our asses kicked after 1302
Yeah but we only remember the good part so who cares 😌
Oh hi you
Ironically the capital seat of Burgundians was Mechelen before the revolution decided it should be Brussels. Would have been very cool to see a Mechelse landmark in the game instead.
Never knew this as an AoE fan, very interesting, thanks for sharing!

flemish militia are pretty good.
Is... is that a historically accurate Goedendag??
Why would it not be ? Only the rode ridder has inaccurate goedendags ? The helmet could be better though

It’s an expansion for the 4K remaster, so they were only added a year or two ago
They have a belgian dev who worked on this. So cool to see the castle appear in the game. It’s 10mins from where I live and have grown up playing this gamr.
TIL
Played AOE2 for hours and hours and never knew this
Beersel mentioned 🥳
And they speak French instead of Flemish 🤡
Well yeah, Burgundians spoke Middle French
I think Philip the Good might have spoken some Middle-Dutch
The people who mattered spoke french, it would have been nice if all villagers spoke old Dutch, and the soldiers etc spoke French.
which is weird because the main history dude at the development studio of Age of Empires is a guy from Leuven.
Technically any racing game that has Spa Francorchamps
You can also add Zolder
In addition to that, the Ypres Rally was part of the WRC in 2021 and 2022 because the covid epidemic prevented them from going to Japan, so Belgium is also represented in the WRC 10 and WRC Generations games.
Technically any FIFA game has matches played in Belgium
Valiant hearts: the great war partly takes place in Belgium, and one of the playable characters (Anna) is a Belgian nurse.
Verdun has a map called Flanders.
Call of Duty 2 has missions around Bastogne, iirc. As do, undoubtedly, a lot of WW2 shooters.
Also, I suppose games such as Flikken: De achtervolging don't count? ;)
https://preview.redd.it/5u9qvcf9rlcg1.png?width=250&format=png&auto=webp&s=f52b9a995959b84a70d66fb5c9209c4531c6f7ea
I raise you: Windkracht 10, the game
Call of duty united offensive has an entire campaign in Belgium.
Foy as multiplayer map was very fun.
Well, Flikken: De achtervolging should count.
And than levels of Amika, Mega Mindy,… of the Wii game Studio 100: Het Speeleiland should also count. ;)
Is the flikken game as badass as it sounds?
Haha no it kinda sucks
It's essentially a racing game that was pretty much created as a mod for a driving instruction game...? Or something? And it only has the male cast members, not a single female flik in sight.
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flikken_(spel) the wiki is worded a bit badly; it starts out by saying there's one game, but in actuality, there are two. The second one is supposedly better than the first, but I wouldn't know
When you play Verdun as Belgian troops, the voice commands are done by Jelle Clymans I think?
https://www.mobygames.com/game/83475/verdun-1914-1918/credits/windows/ this site seems to have a copy of the credits, where one Felix Peeters is credited
I love how 99% of games located here are war games.
You could make the case that Euro Truck Simulator 2 is on the list since Belgium in 1 of the few countries in the base game.
https://blog.scssoft.com/2025/12/project-benelux-rework-antwerp.html (etst2 blog post about antwerp)
Historically, Belgium has seen the most war in all of Europe. So it's not that unexpected.
you mean compared to its age ? Because otherwise it's definitly france
No as seen from the territory. Like, the area. For thousands of years.
oh yeah then it makes more sense
Didn’t know that Belgium was in Euro Truck simulator. Though it makes perfect sense, every game needs a hard mode.
Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Victoria, EU, CK, HoI
Well those strategy games have every country, not very fair
Company of Heroes 2 - Ardennes Assault Dlc
The relatively recent Tempest Rising has a mission set in Brussels, which was a nice and unexpected surprise. The Atomium is even visible in it.
Based. Shadow hearts covenant is one of the best rpg's ever made.
Hitting all the red parts in the ring to get a perfect attack. Dopamine shots, every single one of them.
Not only that, but using the addon that triples the damage when they go invisible gave even more dopamine! Those secret bosses stood no chance. :D
glad someone knows this one, absolutely one of my favorite game along with the first (which is borderline unplayable but has such an unique ambience oh my god, i still didn't manage to finish it)
The ending is quite a mindfuck imo. I adored this game and is consistently in my top3 of all time favorites.
War Thunder has a few maps in Belgium, Ardennes mostly.
Sniper Elite 3 might have had a mission in Belgium too but it’s been too long since I played to be sure
War Thunder also has 8 playable Belgian aircraft and two ground vehicles. https://wiki.warthunder.com/collections/operator/country_belgium
F-16AM my beloved
War thunder has 2 maps that are in Belgium now; Ardennes and Flanders.
There hasn't been a single level set in Belgium in the Sniper Elite series...yet. From a chronological standpoint, SE6 should be set during the Battle of the Bulge but that remains to be seen
The first game of the Commandos series, Behind Enemy Lines, has two missions that take place in Liège.
Wow I never knew that, will now have to revisit the game.
It's the bridge you have to save, and then a few missions later have to blow up. GOAT games.
Post Scriptum (now Squad 44) has Dinant as one of its maps
Maybe a bit of a stretch, but most paradox games does. For example, one of the Victoria 3 tutorial nation is Belgium from 1836 - 1936
I just finished a Flanders campaign in EU IV. Satisfying to defeat France, subjugate Holland, and have colonies in Canada and the Caribbean.
Okay leopold
😭
Hell Let Loose has quite an accurate map of Foy during The Battle of the Bulge.
They alsof have the Elsenborn Ridge as a map.
They need to add the Chouffe gnome then.
I went to the restaurant next to the brewery this summer.
Everything was made with different Chouffe varieties. The rabbit in cherry chouffe was fucking delicious.
It's a nice place, indeed. We usually have food there after walking.
The Witcher games make frequent use of Belgian names. Like Brugge or Bloedzuigers as an enemy type in the Witcher 1. Very fun to see!
Same with the nekkers in witcher 3, based on flemish folklore.
So not literally Belgium but highly inspired by it. Valkyria Chronicles series has you fighting a large oppressive nation from the East called the Empire (which bears resemblance to Nazi Germany) and the name of your tiny nation is called Gallia so make of that what you will.
Most games that are either based on either world war or invoke that imagery have a chance of having some levels in Belgium. Sometimes it's obvious like Battlefield 1 or some RTS/grand strategy games having literal locations, and other times it's more subtle like Valkyria Chronicles taking place in the same region with isekaied names. Then there are things like the Dead Marches from LotR being also loosely based on Northern France or our regions.
Plenty of racing games that have some tracks in Belgium, Belgian IP's that are almost forced to (think any Tintin game) are obvious picks as well, but other than that it's really rare. It's often not chosen as a setting outside some locally developed Red Riding Hood-inspired games because Germany and France tend to be larger and more well known, and serve the same purpose for whenever someone wants to invoke Western Europe as a setting. Like how AC Valhalla 'technically' may have bits of old Belgium in its France DLC because of how it compresses its map, and thus the Northern area may bump up against us as well depending on how it's interpreted, but not to the point where it's relevant.
The only other ones I can immediately recall are Rampage 2 World Tour having a level in Brussels, Broken Sword having one in Bruges, and Witcher 3 having a Kingdom called Brugge, but that's already stretching it a bit. Your Shadow Hearts pick is actually way more out there than anything I've personally encountered.
Tintin doesn't stay in Belgium much tbf
Also that Brugge in Witcher is in general in the Witcher universe. Not just the game.
And also any game that features an irl world map does this, so like Worldwide Rush for example
Dark Souls II
Not sure about 2, but Irythill of the boreal valley in DS3 was made by a Belgian guy (it's extremely easy to spot his name in the credits) and is loosely based on Namur.
Never knew this wow!
For Brussels being the capital of the EU it's a little disappointing how underrepresented Belgium is in videogames and movies overall, beside WWII or simulation games.
Like how London has all kinds of open-world games that let you explore their version of the city, racing games like Midtown Madness, historical settings like Assassin's Creed, contemporary crime drama like The Getaway or more futuristic like Watch Dogs Legion just to know a few I can name off the top of my head. Brussels has nothing like that unfortunately.

A classic
Dark Souls Blighttown level is set in Brussels Yser station
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 has a pre-made map of Six Flags Belgium, which was what Walibi was called back then.
I think the dark souls games take place in a post now belgium
That font gave me ff7 on ps1 flashback
COD Big Red One had a mission in Belgium
Brukel. It's set in both the current and during WW II as the protagonist visits and walks through the house of his grandparents near Geel. It also contains interview segments with the developers actual grandmother.
It's like 4 euro on Steam and well worth it.
Interesting idea for a game!
Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot: the first cases
There's a Bastogne mission in MOH:AA.
Lord of the rings online, there is a dwarf npc in Thorin’s Hall called ‘Belg’.
https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Belg#:~:text=Belg%20is%20a%20Clerk%20of,charters%20to%20form%20new%20Kinships.
Hell let loose has a map in Belgium. A lot of the games I’m seeing here are about ww1 or ww2, makes me kinda sad
The Fallout series was based on Charleroi
I think Gepetto will reuse that tactic when he's in German service in december 1944
Shadow hearts 2 is so good man I hope they remaster the serie starting with koudelka
Hell Let Loose has a couple of maps in Belgium
Somehow , americans despise france but like belgium. I saw it in many series, like the west wing or buffy the vampire slayer
Assassin's Creed: The Lion of Flanders
I'd buy it
Stronghold 2 with Flemish archers
In Pentiment your character can choose a background of having traveled in the low countries. The game specifically mentions Ghent, Brugge and Antwerp
Not sure if this counts but the opening for Divinity Original Sin 2 has a skyline that is clearly based on Ghent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21pKuTVD0I4
Came here to say this! 100% Swen Vincke will always help us remember his roots.
Arx, the last town of the game, is based on Ghent.
Necro Story is located in a fantasy universe, but the locations are all inspired by the names of Belgian villages around Verviers: Pepinster Castle, Cornesse Forest, Soiron Swamp, Xhendelesse Mountain, etc.
🇧🇪 Battlefield 1
WW1 maps: Passchendaele - based on the 1917 battle near Ypres in West Flanders, Belgium. Zeebrugge – set around the Zeebrugge Raid on the Belgian coast (part of the Turning Tides expansion).
🇧🇪 Battlefield V
WW2 map: Panzerstorm – set around Hannut, Belgium, reflecting the German invasion in WW2.
🇧🇪 Hell Let loose Foy – set near Bastogne in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes, southern Belgium).
Elsenborn Ridge – based on the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge near Elsenborn in the Ardennes, Belgium.
If you think the Smurfs takes place in a forest in Belgium, you could count those.
Most simulators ofcourse: ETS2, Train Sim world, microsoft flight simulator, ..
I haven't really noticed other genres of games that use belgium as a location
Lot of historical FPS, as Belgium had lot of battleground!
What Belgian content is there in train sim world
Several Total War games
Crash Bandicoot 3
IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Bodenplatte. A combat flightsimulator about the airwar 1944-1945.
BF 1942
Hell let loose
It doesn't really fit I guess but Euro Truck Simulator is getting expanded where Antwerp will be pretty detailed and things like the harbor, Central Station, Chocolate museum and such will be included
Very debatable and maybe a far stretch, but every game including the Smurfs Village. Since it is heavily speculated this village is within some medieval, fantasy version of Belgium.
Oh shoot it’s been so long I’ve played shadow hearts. Used to be one of my favourites…
The adventures of Tintin:the secret of the unicorn a.o. based on Belgian comics such as Largo Winch.
More niche, but I remember Red Cat: Europese stedentocht taking place in Brussels.
Knights of Honour I and II.
Multiple Gran Turismo games.
"Is this seat taken" has a whole set of levels taking place in Brussels.
fallout 3 looks like brussels
Older call of duty games (or MoH) had the Ardennes Forest as well for a couple of missions
A ww2 RTS I really like, Gates of Hell: Ostfront. while the base game doesn't have any missions in belgium, 2 of the dlc packs have some missions that take place in the ardenne for the american DLC and some missions that take during the initial clashes in belgium for the british DLC.
Europa Barbarorum
Bit of a stretch but I recall playing as Flanders in Civ V: https://civilization-v-customisation.fandom.com/wiki/Flanders_(Robert_III)_(JFD)
I don't think mods count, otherwise you can add Cities Skylines etc. also to the list.
IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Bodenplatte a WW2 flight simulator with various Belgian airfields.
In Victoria 3 you can play as Belgium. Very strong country to start off with as well.
WW1: Verdun has a Belgian regiment and map
Flotsam! It's based on a flooded belgium
Brukel.
Enough WW1 and 2 games
Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios, confirmed on multiple occasions that Ghent, Brughes and other Belgian cities influenced city design in Divinity: Original Sin. Unsure about Baldurs Gate 3, though.
Cod Ww2 a little bit at the end
The game Company Of Heroes has multiple campaigns of WW2 in Belgium.
I remember distinctly seeing the BREPOLS buIlding ingame (large printing factory in Turnhout). It was unique ingame since it has that name on the building.
Also Scheldt is best map
Videogames set in Belgium
Gran Turismo and other racing games include the tracks of Spa-Francorchamps and Cirquit Zolder.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.
(And possible other games based on Tintin, but this one I’m 100% sure. Belgium is even called by name during the first level.)
And I don’t know if it was mentioned already, but another war game: Hell Let Loose.
I haven't played Hell let loose in a while so not sure if they have a map located in belgium?
Oh, I just had a good thought.
Sport games like Fifa/EA Sports FC and Football Manager. If you play (or coach) as a Belgian team (or player) or the Belgian National team, a lot of your matches are supposed to take place in Belgium. Or if you go play in Belgium...
I know PES also had the Belgium national team and Club Brugge in the past.
And possibly other sport and sportmanagment games.
We need to lobby for Forza horizon 7 to be in Belgium, that would be so dope. Or just Benelux if that’s too small a scope
The secret of the unicorn game (parts of it in Brussels anyway)
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (I think)
Battlefield V
My game Ponderabilia is located in Belgium, but it’s hard to tell.
In Civilization VI, the Gaul Civilization is led by Ambiorix. Not a Belgium location (though you can select "Earth" as a map type), but I guess it's some Belgian inclusion on a technicality.
Company of Heroes (I think 2) has an expansion called Ardennes Assault
https://store.steampowered.com/search?term=belgium
only chomeurs and alcoholics in those woods
You never see that in any video games with important scenario because Belgium is just a small and an unknown country around the world. There are just some missions in WW2 video games for the Ardennes battle.
