• you should be able to do stuff like this... document it like you have... take it down to city hall and get a refund for some of the taxes you paid haha.

Haha nah. I just do it to inspire people, spread awareness, and also protect myself in case I get accused of doing something nefarious.

You are like the apotheosis of devotion to community and responsibility Peng! I have not been long on Reddit; glad I finally figured it out, so that I was able to read of your exploits.

Apotheosis! Had to look it up ;)

you know what else would inspire people?? tax refund lol

Plus one. We should have the government to pay this bill so that more people can be more motivated to do socially good things. Good people are better to be paid then goodwill can be converted into a sustainable activity, even into a business

    Cobra effect incoming.

You are so freakin awesome that every time I see one of your posts I’m giving it a diamond. Every time. Thanks for all you do, and happy new year to you.

I want to learn how to clear drains after the flooding in my neighborhood during that last storm. Would you be down to give a tutorial sometime?

It’s ok if not! I also plan on doing some of my own research.

    Have a good day :)

Bro use your government for you! Don’t let your government use you!

  • For people who are wondering about how they can help, there are several options.

    1. Several cities such as SF and Oakland have an Adopt-a-Drain program that you can sign up.
    2. If you prefer to do it yourself in your own community, make sure to wear rainboots and gloves, and use a sturdy rake.
    3. There are videos out there of people lifting the grate to make the water drain faster. I highly dissuade people from doing that due to the potential of tripping or getting stuck in the drain.
    4. For major floods, submit an emergency 311 request or call 911 so that authorities can close the road.

    Also some FAQs.

    1. How do you find these drains?
      1. I typically would go to areas that were under heavy downpour through doppler radar. Then, I would drive around random streets for 20-30 minutes. I mostly check the major arteries first. Once I find a flood, I would use Google Street View to find a nearby drain.
    2. Why don't you clear the leaves away first before the rain?
      1. I do that in Livermore, but I am not quite familiar with other cities. By doing these uncloggings, I now know what drains to look out for before the rain.
    3. Isn't it the cities job?
      1. Yes, and I will hold them accountable.
    4. Who inspired you to do this?
      1. I've been a big fan of somebody called post 10 since like 2018. It is because of him that I was inspired to help out the community through my illegal dumping cleanups, storm drain uncloggings, and more.
    5. Why do you share this?
      1. I normally only share big undertakings I do. Just as post 10's contents inspired me, I hope to do the same with contents I share.

If you want to see more uncloggings, check out my YouTube! My hope is to someday monetize so that I can donate to non-profits, fund my cleanups, and more.

What gear are you wearing? Specially, high vis vest and waterproof boots?

City has Adopt a drain, we should have Adopt my Bank Acct for them :)

Are you a property owner, reddit_user_001? How much do you pay a year in municipal taxes?

i'm not a troll at all. don't even know what 'doom and gloom' you are referring to, but thanks for linking my post. you're actually doing me a favor lololol

lol. Dude your own screenshots show that you're a troll. Whining about getting banned from this very sub for trolling.you were so butthurt about it you created a whole new subreddit to whine.

Still waiting for you to say how much you pay in taxes, too, btw.

wouldn't you like to know.... but to that point, are you saying that you have to be a property owner to expect working municipal services in the city you live in?

a renter pays property tax through the rent they pay(often those taxes are baked into the rent renters pay, so that is just a false trope on your part).

Renters also pay for municipal services through the San Francisco Rent Board Fee(which owners also pass off to their tenants)

renters also pay for municipal services through water and sewer charges on their utility bills.

renters contribute to municipal services through local sales and gross receipts tax.

Renters also pay for municipal services through things like parking permit fees and vehicle registration fees.

Tax burden is typically shared by the actual owner and whomever is leasing the accommodations.

So kindly take your "do you even own property" argument to trash bin.

If you want cities to do more, you need more taxes especially property tax.

So 100% true. And esp corporate property taxes. The legacy of Prop 13, which is from 1977, and still in effect, weighs heavy on California.

Yuup. People are downvoting me but trust me that government offices in California are underfunded for what people want. There is wasteful spending everywhere but it’s not in amounts that would make a huge difference.

You’re 100% correct. Prop 13 enabled my very low income mom to stay in her home and keep it after she was placed in a nursing home. But Prop 19 was not the correct way to fix things at all, it only ensures that most families cannot keep those homes after their original owners die. My brother and I were charged close to $40k in back taxes because of Prop 19. We had the ability to pay but not everyone does.

~45-50 years of Republican propaganda. Back in the ‘80’s they never shut up about taxes. Into the 90’s. Now they just rely on unvarnished racism, hatred of immigrants, and attacks on trans people. Cuz they got what they wanted out of the “taxes are too high” bullshit.

More to the point, the rich donors got what they wanted.

We also see it in all these idiotic comments on threads like this that somehow act like community members bettering their community shows society has collapsed. Doomerism is a mental disorder spread through social media.

  • Awesome work.

Side note. The worms in the road are such an interesting visual.

I was wondering what they were, big worms then?

  • Dammit, I spent an hour clogging that drain. 😒

    You son of a bitch.

    … I’m in.

  • I hope you get recognized and rewarded generously for your invaluable contributions. Maybe start a GoFundme

  • what are those moving noodles? Earthworms?

  • Man peng - you single handedly do more than a few hundred or more Gov't employees on tax payers payroll

  • leading by example 👏💪👍

  • Peng for President. 🤘🏻

  • As someone who lives on industrial, salute to you sir. We do not deserve your services 🫡

  • You really could just send them a bill for this work. I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance they pay it.

  • Good job Good Samaritan!

  • Peng army unite!

  • You think you're sly, but we know you sped the video up!

Seriously though how long did it take you?

    15-20 minutes?

  • So nice of you! Thanks!

  • Thank you for your service

  • Thank you for your service

  • You're like the opposite of a beaver ... you're the Reverse Beaver.

  • Have you thought about running for office? You could run a successful grass roots campaign.

  • Not all heroes wear a cape. Some wear hi-vis vests.

  • Not a good person unless it’s posted so everyone knows. Thanks

  • Bless you, dear citizen!

  • Peng much love dude!!! You are truly an inspiration, keep posting and more people will follow. together we can make this place much better.

  • Nice dude. Send Bill to the city Thats some hard work

  • Whoa… incredible. This is my neck of the woods.

Be careful though. This is industrial… it’s basically a semi freeway connecting 880 to 92.

You had guts parking your vehicle in the left lane like that… on a semi blind curve too… that’s bravery right there folks on a road without sidewalks and with cars and trucks normally going 50mph.

  • You should get a boat.

  • Is that rat swimming? In the water

  • You are a real one. Agreed you should take this to city hall and ask for reimbursement.

  • I love the high speed earthworms scurrying after the receding water.

  • even before I went in, I knew it was pengweather. Dude you should be running for mayor !!

  • wtf is the ebmud or whoever is suppose to take care of this doing sitting on a fat check and fat bottom ?

  • Thank you! Now, why didn’t those fat asses in city hall get workers that are on the payroll to do this???

  • Seems states with lower tax burdens can keep the drains clear. I’m calling bs on people blaming Prop 13.

  • Peng should run for president 2028

  • Peng is the goat

  • Communist

    Go on

Serving the community with little or no expectation of benefit to yourself. Good for the community. Essence of communism.

I can see where you are going, but honestly I think it has resulted in some benefits to me, even though they are indirect. By sharing some of the work I do, it has inspired more people to care. Because More people are involved in this sort of stuff, it has resulted in cleaner and safer streets for everybody including myself.

The comedy of the commons, you might say.

  • Not all heroes wear capes

  • You are the best of us Peng. We admire you, 💯
