According to the instructions you should:
- Download the game from GOG.com and install it
- Install the IWD2:EE mod https://github.com/RedChimera/IWD2EE
- Run the IWD2:EE.exe and select your resolution.
(see imgur post for examples)
...
The mod doesn't have UI scaling, so you should pick and choose your resolution according to what is comfortable for you. I'll probably go with 1080p but some people are recommending the recommended 1600x900.

This wasn't immediately obvious to me as I felt it was possible there could be UI scaling in the mod, so this post is in aid of anyone else like myself.
...
Font size mod, play on higher resolutions with readable text:

...
Also: Change game speed to your preference.
I'm probably going to run at 60 frames, u/Eldakar is recommending 45.
Also cache size change to 999 MB and also pathfinding to 400000

If there is anything else a newbie should know beyond the info here, please comment it.

I had choice paralysis so I basically just loosely used these builds for inspiration

ALT highlights objects! ffs lol. I was trying tab, like every other game... or is that just the enhanced editions? Anyway. Alt. See the objects.

edit: maybe don't install everything the mod tells you to, holy christ every single encounter is a swarm of enemies and all the cheese in the world can't win against. I think I might reinstall and try it as close to vanilla as possible until I know wtf is going on lmao
This game gets very hard at points. I think it's worth investigating the difficulty scaling options when you install the mod
Any recommendations?
No, sorry. I've only played this game once and the difficulty spikes were a lot. I've seen other people comment that the EE includes difficulty options that can make it worse, but I don't know what they are.
Yeah I ran out of gas after all the golems on the playthrough where I got the furthest
I never got very far in either ID game. Difficulty spikes were pretty tough for younger me and I never had the patience to figure them out.
It’s still the only IE game I’ve never finished. Isair and Madae ended like three of my runs.
Man, I played it as a kid, and got stuck at one point - it was a battle with demons followed immediately after entering an area (the area before entering the grounds of the Severed Hand). The story is very linear so I didn't have the option to go back, do a side quest and come back in a higher level. The game is really freaking long also. So I gave up and didn't touch it again until two years ago. At which point I completed the game and damn. The catharsis was real after 20 years.
EE already runs at your monitor refresh rate, by changing the setting in config all you do is increase game speed (movement, spell casting etc are faster)
Ah right, all good though. I definitely prefer it faster.
Does increasing game speed not affect the speed of rounds and scripting ? Or is this lossless scaling?
pretty sure it does, movement speed casting speed etc are increased, no idea why hes recommending boosting fps
idk I am brand new, just in the process of figuring this all out and posting here anything I had to learn - anything that wasn't explicit. someone recommended increasing game speed though, so hopefully they did so with reason
I’ve tried to play this game so many times - I always burn out in ice palace. And I’ve played Baldurs Gate and Torment (and IWD 1) several times. I’m not sure what’s wrong with it.
I've beaten it once, but yeah I hate the ice palace and dragons eye time loop on subsequent playthroughs.
I think its a fun game with tremendous promise and customization, I just think there are some really unfun parts.
I just made it through the palisades to the bridge, the orcs are definitely a step up. Luckily resurrection is cheap at 100gp.
Does it enable zooming in and out with the mouse wheel?
It doesn't, sadly.
That's too bad. This has become a bit of a deal-breaker in my old age. Couldn't get back into ToEE because of it.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.
You might get away with the OS level zoom, and there's a mod to increase text size
Will this ever work as an app for the Google Play store?
No
