Lot of badukers are going to look like Jonty-esque mongs in a couple of years when Trump's adventure turns into another US overseas disaster.
Me and the boys ... we got plans for what comes later after the war ...
Its already a disaster (Venezuela) and I don't get the feeling that Trump is dellusional in that way (probably some others though). I think he understands how to run empires and that's through local puppets.
Yes, but it's very funny though
Get your point, but South America is not the middle east my man.
Do you work for the BBC?
lol
That maybe true, but in fairness, they’ve whacked Iran & Venezuela with apparent success with no American lives lost - all while not strong arming us Brits into being the robin in the double act.
You’ve got to tip your hat at that. I think the days of teaching a bunch of sandmalians not to go Turbo Islamic-Thocracy for 20 years and subsequently failing are behind us. It’s pure get in line or a slap from daddy.
They're doing regime change the smart way, use your expensive toys to nutpunch the baddies just enough to get them to behave, and not try to occupy people.
As soon as Donald sends boots he's done for
As opposed to looking like a jonty-esque mong like you; right now.
Trump is ‘just doing things’. What misadventures do you foresee?
Trump is Sulla. He’s clearing the decks of the rules based international order cretins like you.
'Trump is Sulla'
You guys are becoming even cringier than the wokies lol
One thinks you do not belong here, Jonty.
But do stay and watch. We'll turn in time with Fray Bentos and baduk birds.
Lmao I've been here for years but whatever. Time will prove me right.

Lmao if true that is low
love a contrary opinion here but how would that potentially play out?
as I understand it Venezuela was already pretty much a basket case, I can't imagine them getting into a protracted land based war even if the VZ army decide to try to put up a fight
I could imagine a guerrilla campaign against the US (well actually against the infrastructure they would need to use) if they are going to extract resources for themselves, but if they just allow a sensible amount of the proceeds to uplift living standards rather than taking 100% for themselves what do you foresee ensnaring them?
The noted successor said Maduro is the legitimate President. Virtually all of Maduro's inner-circle is still alive and controls the state institutions. The regime will be back up and running shortly, assuming this isn't a rhetorical attempt to appear independent of Washington while doing their bidding.
The danger at the moment is whether "we going to run Venezuela" can be taken literally. The American public will react with revulsion if there is U.S. troops fighting far-left guerillas in the jungles of Venezuela while Chinese kit flows in unimpeded through the porous Colombian border.
obviously they've committed to ill advised land wars multiple times historically so they MAY do that again - in my opinion a stupid move but lets not put it past them but they clearly had total air superiority in this operation
so are we talking mass movement of Chinese AA weapons through Panama over the Darien gap into Colombia and then Venezuela?
the faction that bows, gets their enemies destroyed by the naval air arm
I feel like this is just the beginning of more strikes like the decapitation that just happened. Mexico, Cuba, both of these have already been mentioned. Great opportunity to sow absolute chaos in that region, use it as an impetus to militarise the southern border and rapidly escalate mass deportations. Then just pick up the pieces afterwards.
I don't think there is that much of a plan. The Yanks never think ahead.
Just let em' stew for a bit now
You're literally joint hosting the World Cup with Mexico in 6 months time
Do you think he'll get to keep the prestigious FIFA peace price if he goes to war with the cohost of the FIFA world cup?
lmao, sounds about right.
As opposed to them being a failed communist state ran by a dictator?
I mean the Venezuelan military don't seem t have lost control but if they do it will go back to being what it was before - a failed state run by the most self-serving elites in SA [which is impressive considering the competition]. Venezuela has never been competently run.
And then you can all be surprised when Chavez 2.0 comes along.
Is that not what it was yesterday and will be tomorrow? Not sure what deposing Maduro actually achieves at the moment
Lancing the boil. Is the next body up going to continue on rails and wait for the Airlift into New York at 3am with their significant other. Sod that.
Panama is not comparable to Venezuela. Like comparing Monaco to France.
Look man, just because you got permanently brain fried by Iraq doesn't mean everyone else did.
What's more comparable to the current mission to Venezuela do you think?
A) The other time America went into a Latin American shithole, removed their kingpin larping as a leader, then left again
or
B) The time America and an international coalition sent 100,000 troops in a conventional invasion of another country, then committed to rebuilding it while also occupied in a second country, all explicitly part of a global ideological struggle against terrorism.
Every foreign intervention Trump has undertaken before has been very deliberately curtailed. He murked Soleimani then didn't go any further. When he bombed the shit out of the Iranian nuclear programme four years later, he again dropped the bombs then went home to tweet about it - you'll remember he very clearly didn't get involved in regime change, or with the Israeli bombing campaign later. So sure, maybe he'll completely change his entire attitude this time and decide to nation build in Venezuela. But I don't think it's likely.
Calm down. I'm not brain fried by Iraq by pointing out the basically all American foreign interventions have backfired on them [and the West] spectacularly.
Panama is the only time it has been successful and only then because Panama is tiny micro-state created by the Americans in the first place and the dictator there was only in power because of the Americans in the first place. Noreiga is not comparable to Maduro and Panama is not a similar country to Venezuela no matter how much you say it is.
Yeah, if you ignore all the times they worked fine that is.
1983: removed some Caribbean communists, went home again.
1989: removed a LATAM dictator, went home again.
1991: smacked the shit out of Saddam, went home again.
1999: bombed a bunch of Serbs, got what they wanted, went home again.
And as mentioned, killed Soleimani, bombed Iran's nuclear programme etc. Even Libya, which didn't turn out well for anyone else, was a problem for Europe rather than America.
I fully accept it's possible it could end in another quagmire for America - but it's stupid to act like that's a certainty when America actually has a pretty good track record of coming in, getting rid of someone or something then leaving again. Donald Trump is the least likely president ever to try and stick around building a democracy - I really don't think he'll even care if Venezeulan democracy or whatever fails to materialise. He still got his big win.
The Ministry of Defence says RAF Typhoons have joined French aircraft, striking an underground facility in Syria which had been occupied by so-called Islamic State.

Starmer being asked if Britain played any part in the Maduro operation is hilarious. Surely these journalists can’t be serious.
Why would USA care about British input over Latin America? USA forced Britain to back down over a Venezuelan border dispute in 1865.
Who wore it better?
Nicolás Maduro
vs
Hadush Kebatu
first of all this is a great example of how the right accessory can really make an outfit pop
plastic bottle is dog whistled support for billionaires using petrochemicals to destroy aquatic ocean marine habitats
a delightful avocado bag shows a softer, fun loving side and clearly signals empathy for the fiscally oppressed, who can't get on the property ladder because of their billionaire grandparents
but highlighters out, on a deeper level, self care is important so if you are planning an little outing it is always a good idea to prepare yourself for sensory overload by bringing protective equipment which can greatly alleviate discomfort, a common issue on military sea vessels
in summary Maduro is clearly massively in need of PIP, I hope international law sees that we start paying him asap, Saint Kebabtu - having also been on a boat, might as well get it too
The pot belly really doesn't go with the outfit
Absolutely love Reddit sperging out over Venezuela
If the country is turned around, they’ll still find an axe to grind
Speaking of sperging out, Mrs Parmo was watching a show called ‘good doctor’ on Netflix, talk about a product of its time, its only a few years old but it’s about a doctor who is mega autistic getting on at a big hospital, I was crying laughing throughout the first episode, he’ll just randomly sperg out and shout I don’t like pickles
Hit that sweet spot of being pitched when DEI was at its peak, would never have been commissioned five years prior or after
get your eyes round the episode of OCD Detective show Monk where he shakes a black dudes hand and is immediately passed a sanitising wipe by his assistant
Interestingly, The Good Doctor is based on a hit Korean show from 2013 so pre-mega woke era (not that SK is woke lol).
Well agreeing with international law has brought a gazillion bomalians and recently saw a terrorist cost us 250k in legal fees
I’ll probably get gutted by a nu-Brit before there’s a breach of international law that’ll make me cry, but it’s an interesting race to see which will happen first
the reddit takes are brill.
Yeah, well done.
I can only think these people are so embedded in reddit that they project reddit-think into real life. If you "win" an argument, you can bend reality or something?
Mrs Speccy is watching a women's Christmas movie. Said it was odd, "Where is everyone?", the man and the woman are always distant and never touch aaannnd yeah it was shot during covid times lol. But the main leads have done at least one other women's Christmas movie togther so the missus was happy but she's seeing this one though.
I've never seen such hardship listed in the bad effects of lockdown before.
"yeah sure if they think they can"
Id actually pay money to watch someone that Reddit seems suitable take on the US and attempt it.
Oh wait we don't need to. We can look at red flag every year and watch the US absolutely fucking flatten combined NATO.

Gotta love all the bad-faith actors with their "what if Putin had tried to kill Zelensky bro????" talking points as if the VDV just planned to have a chin wag with him after seizing Kyiv.
I'm tired boss.
Its funny seeing a bunch of supposedly respectable political commentators thinking that the only thing stopping countries from capturing their foreign enemies is international law, and not the fact that they can't do it.
And don't even get started on Taiwan and China (PRC), Taiwan isn't a recognised country, if China invades Taiwan, its not an international issue to my knowledge, which is apparently unknown to the aforementioned supposedly respectable political commentators.
NATO (and Japan and SK) as a whole can't accept Taiwan being captured. I don't know whether Taiwan deliberately made themselves indispensable but its the one local conflict that can't not spark a devastating war.
The situation with Taiwan is complicated in terms of international law because the majority of the land they control is unresolved since the end of WW2. Japan relinquished it without stating to whom it went. The RoC then annexed it illegally. The PRC also claims it.
Most countries support the idea that the RoC is illegitimate and the PRC has veto rights in the UNSC. So i dont see anyone really backing Taiwan under “international law” arguments. It’s going to come down to naked self interest once the rule based international order comes down in favour of the PRC.
The political commentary class has been stuck "fighting the last war" - the first Cold War. Now, we are in a new one and new rules apply. The countries that recognize this reality first are going to be the ones that emerge from it in the best shape.
Peston in total shambles.
Who knew that a letter and a pretend court the US ignored anyway stopped them using bleeding edge military tech?
It's a real testament to Ukrainian security that Zelensky hasn't been Maduro'd. They'll need to keep that up for life or have him take on a new identity in the middle of rural USA or something.
Zelensky placing Budanov as part of his inner team is a strategic move, likely to A) keep him alive due to his intelligence and B) use his intelligence background to navigate and manage Trump relations directly.
Lmao how fucking retarded of Zelensky. All this time sending thousands of young Ukrainians to die in a trench the past two years when he could have got a non-binding court order ruling that the Russian invasion was illegal. How embarrassing.
And to think, BBC, CNN et all were just three repeats of "Illegal invasion of Ukraine" away from defeating Putin. Fuck sake like.
Literally a big reason why we were even able to support Ukraine is because Russia fucking failed lmao to infiltrate a society much more similar to theirs than the US/VZL, and assassinate the top leadership.
All I can be is fucking impressed at the Americans and still glad that the Ukies performed miracles in the first weeks of the invasion
Its hard to overstate how badly the Crimea + Donbass incursions destroyed Russia's relationship with Ukraine. They turned a friendlyish pseudo Russian province into a hostile state. Ukraine as a nation was barely a concept in Odessa pre-2014 as they are largely Russian
"Genius" Putin at work.
The Israelis managed it in Iran with a society that actively hates their existence, just how shit is the neo-KGB
Steve Kotkin is a great resource for understanding Russia and how they view the world and their own country - basically, they're achilles heel has always been that they have been too corrupt to ever understand the benefit of investing in their own nation and people. A nation of that size can only be kept together by a tyrant and they don't tend to like sharing or considering other people.
The closest they ever got to fixing this problem, ironically, was during Soviet times, when ideological thinking forced them to see the value of investing in things like education and training, but of course, due to the economic constraints of communism, they couldn't ever fully sustain it. It collapsed, and blatant plunder and kleptocracy once again became the order of the day. Prigozhin, before his untimely shooting-out-of-the-sky, confirmed that the entire point of the Donbas crisis was to suck it dry.

I love people now trying to pretend that "international law" is actually a real thing
They really seem to think international law keeps the peace. Someone was saying that now Trump has done this it opens the gates for anyone to do it. They don’t seem to realise that this is why countries have armies and navies. Some even have nuclear weapons.
Yeah because any other country is capable of this level of operation.
Lol.
Only the two countries reddit hates the most are capable of doing it
We (and I guess the French... urgh) did something not dissimilar to Libya - unfortunately we are ruled by morons given we made a non issue a massive issue.
Trump of course appears to have immediately made a issue less of an issue.
China? If they were able to do similar on even (idk what's an equivalent, Thailand maybe? Malaysia?) I'd be impressed
Israel
Oh. Yeah in their own back yard maybe
USA and what’s the other one?
Uganda, their commandos are near unrivaled in action.
"Who Killed Captain Alex?" wasn't just a blockbuster: it was a warning.
it's also the irony that people saying China will now invade Taiwan whilst those very same people will be the ones expecting America to go and defend it
If I was China i’d think twice about invading Taiwan now. If Trump says he’ll defend them then I believe him.
I thought it was supposed to make their satnav stop working or something

Since Venezuela is a Russian ally, all I can say is...
What did y’all think Derussification meant? vibes? papers? essays?
America was provoked BRICS expansion. Trump had no choice.
The problem I have with this is Trump absolutely could have framed this in that way.
“As Russia thinks what they’re doing is ok, we will take action against those nations who have provoked us in direct response to Russias failure to accept our peace terms.”
He is a clueless tactless fool though so there will be no clever strategic failure. Cold War leaders would be ashamed.
He’s basically saying in public “because we can and we want oil”. Even if it’s true you shouldn’t say it.
Based and de-Axis of Evil pilled. Now stop being a bitch Donald and turn the screws on Vlad
Sternly worded Tweets invoking the sacred powers of INTERNATIONAL LAW
As we all know Russia nearly invaded Ukraine under Biden but was stopped by the threat of a stern letter from the EU. The rules based order was instrumental in stopping that war.
Under which of these presidents did Russia NOT launch an invasion of a foreign country?
A) George W. Bush (Rules Based International Order FC)
B) Barack Obama (Rules Based International Order FC)
C) Donald Trump (Might Makes Right United)
D) Joe Biden (Rules Based International Order FC)
The answer may shock you!
Naturally the eurocrats are shrieking about ‘Muh international law’ because it was the only system in which they were relevant.
Has the US blocked Venezuelan mobile phone services or has socialism made them so poor that they all can't afford good camera phones?
Usually there's better footage from these things.

It was the UN controlling the electromagnetic fields via international law
Venezuela Currently Has:
200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, 34th largest in the world
300 billion barrels of crude oil reserves, largest in the world
4 billion tons of iron ore reserves, worth nearly $600 billion
8,000+ tons of gold resources, the largest in Latin America
500+ million tons of coal reserves
2% of the world’s total renewable freshwater resources
Untapped strategic minerals including nickel, copper, and phosphates
Venezuela is now a “strategic” US asset

Can socialists explain why this country is dirt poor
Evil capitalist countries intentionally handicapping them out of fear of socialism looking good.
That's the line they've used previously for every other socialist shit hole
If they're a true socialist nation, why should they even need or want to trade with evil capitalist countries?

I don't suppose we could ask our fellow yank brethren to swing across the pond on their way back and perform another special military operation at 10 downing street? We appear to have an issue with a sopping wet squatter stuck in there. Reports are that he is malfunctioning, rocking back and forth, muttering "international law".
Finally, the Liberal Democrats weigh in with their valuable contribution

The melts on UKpol are extremely upset about an illegitimate dictator reaching the finding out stage. Given how much they like to rant about fascism, you'd think they'd be thrilled that a man who rigged elections to stay in power and forced the opposition to flee the country had been unceremoniously deposed.
The bit they don't want to admit to themselves is that international law has only been relevant in the last ~30 years because the US has been ready (and willing) to play world police.
They've incorrectly identified that it's the law bit that was making it work, not the US: threatening to cut you off from the world's economic system/sponsor a coup/kidnap you from your presidental palace/literally go to war (delete as appropriate)
This is exactly it. We (alongside the general public), have always known that "muh rules based international law" was a load of bollocks that only worked so long as the major powers were at least semi-willing to entertain it. However, the real power has always come from the ability to project military force relatively efficiently and both us and the EU are utterly toothless compared to the US and China.
This is just the natural outcome with the only difference being that the mask is now fully off rather than loosely hanging via sticky tape. Thankfully, UKPol continues to be the eternal lolcow when it comes to outrage and hyperbolic whining so as least we get some good content out of this.
They are so lawyer-brained that they can't comprehend that any law is useless and pointless without enforcement.
They're so used to our excuse for Police that they've forgotten what actual enforcement looks like
Like I said the other day, if Trump achieved world peace they'd be furious

Well we've reached a point where so many countries and powerful individuals are sanctioned by the west that they can basically run a parallel system (at least for the ruling classes), so the only option left is hard action. Between Venezuela and Iran, Trump has basically said "If you don't have nukes, we'll just do things"
Don't forget they also did the same with THE SCIENCE

I'm enjoying watching a load of people from politicians, journalists, and especially redditors Scrabble to try and bleat about international law have to face the music when asked in reply
"So who exactly is going to do anything or enforce it?"
Turns out, the only thing ever enforcing international 'law' was the people who just went and committed a hecking international illegality.
Feel like pure shit just want team America world police back
I'm reminded today of back in the day when I was with this far leftie girl and she dragged me to a screening of "The Revolution Will Not be Televised". A pro-Chavez doc outlining the events around a coup against him. She thought he was just great.

Venezuela has been menacing the countries in that strip of northern South America for years to the point Guyana (the former British one) doesn't develop in large parts of its country so Venezuela can't take advantage. MUH INTERNATIONAL LAW
Weedy men in suits will be the death of the west. I’m not that arsed along as British lads aren’t being sent to die in some backwater. Why can’t the shitlib media just give an observation on events and any consequences, unintended or expected. Just leave it at that.
Liberal media is picking up pennies in front of the steam roller at this point. They have absolutely no idea that strongman politics has been in the ascendancy since 2016
International law is something only the naive and weak believe actually matters, which is why it's only European states who put any stock in it.
A worthless zombie ideology, another relic of the 1960's - it's only natural the zombie continent would worship it.
People who care about international law are invariably bad people - either self loathing westerners or people who just hate us. They always wheel out "international law" to justify cultural destruction through mass migration or nonsense like the Chagos deal. They should be disenfranchised.
Yep agreed.
They’re often harmless people as well, incapable of any physical violence - soft, weak & supine people who need to rely on other bodies to resolve their conflicts. Imagine someone knocking Robert Peston’s pint out of his hand and him even having a sliver of gumption to demand he be bought another.
He’d be laughed out of town if the pint-spiller was that way inclined.
Imagine Lewis Goodall walking into a boxing gym. Immediate shart in his pants. Weak and feeble.
Will this mean migration from Venezuela into the UK, No. Does this aid the west in the Ukraine conflict, Yes. Why the hand ringing, there’s no downsides as it stands at the moment. Incredibly unserious people, completely looking a gift horse in the mouth.

It's funny watching everyone from President of the EU to the Mayor of New York Post exactly the same stuff about international law
No one can actually do anything. Everyone is completely powerless to actually effect change in the world unless you're prepared to use force and actually have the force to back it up
Because they've been shown up. Also, there is no legal way in their muh intl law that actually enforce deposing Maduro. They cling to it because they have nothing else and now Trump has blown a giant hole in it, they're scrambling.
Starmer's plan is to just go to the Winchester and wait for all this to blow over and for the International Rules Based Order to figure it out.
From a PR perspective, he'd be so much more relatable if he just gave his own personal opinion/assessment from time to time.
