The report, expected this month from the Department of Health and Human Services, is likely to suggest as being among the potential causes of autism low levels of folate, an important vitamin, and Tylenol taken during pregnancy, people familiar with the matter said.
For what it's worth, there is some evidence that children whose mothers took acetaminophen during pregnancy are more likely to be diagnosed with ASD and ADHD. Evidence regarding folate and ASD is much less consistent. In truth, neither of these is likely to be related to a large percentage of diagnoses.
And unsurprisingly, now that various scientific bodies have spoken out, it's easy to see why they continue to support the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy.
