After starting with a Peak Design 45L Travel Backpack, I became a die-hard fan of the brand. I’ve since been using the Peak Design 20L Everyday Backpack as my daily carry and even grabbed the Peak Design Roller Pro for some extra versatility. FYI, I’m not a photographer, just a fan of functional, durable bags.
That said, I’ve really enjoyed the 20L for a while now but noticed that the black fabric tends to get dirty pretty easily, which has become a bit of a turn-off. So, after some research, I decided to try out something new and bought the Evergoods CPL 16 as my new daily bag.
I’ve heard the complaints about the "back digging" issue with the CPL 16, but honestly, I’m not too concerned. I’m really excited about this bag. It seems to be one of the top options in the 16-20L range, and I’m looking forward to traveling light with it.
However, I’m still wondering if there’s something better out there. Based on my needs (a smaller, clean-looking, and durable daily driver), do you think the Evergoods CPL 16 is the way to go? Or is there an elite alternative in this size range that I should consider instead?

The only other bag I have that is as comfortable as the CPL16 is the Tom Bihn Synapse 19.
Do you wear the bag high up on your back?
I don't think so, the bottom of the bag is right where your back starts to curve outwards again.
How about Able Carry Daily Plus?
The ULA Cicada is 20L main body and very light at < 2 lbs. Super clean and simple.
Is the Cicada "better" than the CPL 16? Are apples better than oranges? It's another design philosophy for EDC, that you might want to consider.
Oranges are far superior to apples
I have them both. I think they are both insanely comfortable for different reasons. The ULA is super lightweight, and is made to minimise the the weight you’re carrying but the cpl just has a great harness system. I have the cpl in waxed canvas and love it. I think either is a great EDC bag. The other at that size that I love is the Alpha One Niner Whitley. So comfortable and great organisation and 21l.
