Its a Solifuge; they are closely related to Spiders and Scorpions.
The thing that tells you its definitely not a spider is that it doesn’t have fangs, they have the unmodified claw-like mouthparts more like scorpions. With spiders the pivoting part is modified into a fang and the more stationary part is mostly vestigial.
So fluffy. So cute. I just adore watching arachnids dig. Theres something just so charming about watching them dig with their little legs that's just so perfect like yes, that is what you are built to do! Keep going!!!!
Oh my gosh. I know lots of people see a picture of a solifuge and think it's the stuff of nightmares, but I'm sitting here giggling because the way it pushes the dirt around with its little arms is just so. Frigging. CUTE. And the plump fuzzy behind!! 😍
Dig dig dig dig dig.
n then I turn around and,
Push push push push push!
An then I turn around and,
Dig dig dig dig dig!
And I turn around again n,
Push push push push push!
I love solifugids!!!! I have the most common native species in my area a couple times. Both times were to save them from funning headfirst into my campfire.
These things have always creeped me out (working on recovering from arachnophobia but still have my limits) but this is honestly so cute, it's like a little mouse or maybe a mole, with extra legs 🥹
They dig for several reasons. I believe the one here is actually digging for ants to eat! Could be for other things such as getting out of the heat or laying eggs though.
I’m a professor working on arthropod body evolution, and I’ve been wanting to work with solifufids for years! You don’t happen to know where to consistently find embryos/eggs do you?
I saw on Arachnoboards a year ago that someone had a breeding colony of some Egyptian species, but haven’t had the chance to follow up on where that project went.
I was not ready for how much joy the illusion of this guy having a fat hamster face gave me. I feel like someone just showed me a pomeranian puppy. These critters are already so cute to me, but oh my god it dig a little hole.
Busy lil fuzz butt
Must.. not.... booop......
Is this a type of spider?
It is a camel spider (or similar species), which is not actually a type of spider
Or a type of camel!
This is an animal crossing level joke and I love it
It’s its own type of arachnid called a solifugae

Little fuzzy butt. Watch out for the business end though. I got chomped by a solifugae. I don’t recommend it.

I didn’t know they burrowed! Would this be a female digging a hole to lay eggs?
