I'm flying out of LAX to Haneda this Sunday. It will be my first time in business class on JAL A350-1000.

Anything I should know before I head out? I'm looking forward to trying out the lounges at LAX. OneWorld and AA Flagship.

I already filled out the form via Visit Japan Web and got my QR code.

P.S.: About the ticket, I got it via AA for 60k points.

  • Flagship Lounge is nicer than the OW Business lounge which has the atmosphere of a dungeon.

Menu is online and you can preselect your main.

    you can preselect your main

Should I do that? What's the difference between pre-selecting your main and doing so on the flight?

It is the same menu, just guarantees you get your first choice.

Oh I see. I'm not a big seafood guy, but I feel like I should at least try the Japanese menu since I'm on JAL. Do you think it will be worth it? Or should I play it safe and go with Western?

This is a you question, order what you like to eat.

The airline is JAL but the meals are being cooked in the LAX catering facilities, which is definitely not employing Japanese chefs. Book what you will actually enjoy eating.

  • Make sure you read up on how to use the free wifi, it's quite complicated. But once you get it going, it's quite fast and stable.

Thanks for the heads up. Is there an existing guide already? Or will I have to read through a brochure and follow each step after boarding the plane?

Yes, there is a guide in seat pocket. You will need your flight confirmation number from jal. Its easy and only takes a few minutes.

I don’t remember it being particularly complicated. They gave me a card with instructions and I followed them. You probably need a JAL account beforehand but I imagine you made one when you selected seats

I didn't. I managed my reservation through the booking info.

    I'm making an account now.

I think they send you an email for a password to use for the flight wifi. Haven’t flown A350 business but that was the process for their other aircrafts.

  • The Queen of Blue tea is fantastic and I wish we could get it in the US

Queen of Blue Tea is JAL F only, not business class.

Darn. I guess my next goal is JAL F, just so I know what the Queen of Blue tea tastes like in the sky.

or you just can pick up a bottle in Tokyo for ~$30.

Not the same without JAL F ;)

I agree, usually drink most/all bottle of salon before rest then bottle of tea after I wake up, with "flight cap" or whiskey before landing

  • I just did this trip in reverse (HND to LAX) on the A350. It’s a nice plane and much better than the older 787-9 that they also use. The one tip I got that I really appreciated was that JAL keeps their planes noticeably warmer than US carriers, and bc there are no individual air nozzles for business class, it can seem stuffy and very warm. I was advised to pick up a small personal fan for $15 at Brookstone at LAX and it was great - just enough to keep air moving and make it feel cooler.

  • How far out did you book this ticket? It’s a good deal

I got the tix in Aug 2025
