To me it's very simple as someone who is apparently a NEET now I finished uni.
Many jobs aren't accessible for disabled people, many disabled people can't work some or all jobs due to disabilities. I find when I mention having a disability like autism I do not get the job but when I don't I'm more likely to.
I've had employers doubt my ability to work a job solely based on them knowing I have autism and anxiety. Many colleagues have thought I am intentionally ignoring people or being a dick when I was not and I hate having to clarify that and actually no I have autism & hearing difficulties.
Too many jobs require years of experience so the young people who are educated don't get a chance to gain experience. I have a master's degree plus an undergraduate and I have not gotten a job in my fields of study (marketing and graphic design).
Hopefully the increase of apprenticeships that is meant to be coming can help with this somewhat but unless more ACTUAL (by that I mean being open to graduates or people finishing education in the field) entry level/trainee/junior jobs start being available it is going to be a struggle including for graduates to get a job outside of minimum wage retail/hospitality which many disabled people can't cope with.
Imo.the government shouldn't be focussing on the disabled when there's so many able bodies people struggling to find a job. We need better unemployment stats which take account of underemployment and things like students looking for jobs
This is for normal NEETs too, so hopefully they'll look at that. Things like kick start scheme did help under the last government i think. Currently I think the employment markets are very unfair and grade inflation and over supplying degrees incl. Foreign students all tie in but mostly the labour government hasn't made it desirable to hire more people. All but one Labour government's have resulted in less employment
Crossposted because autistic people are way more likely to be unemployed, you can email your lived experience and tell politicians WHY it's hard to get a job while being autistic and what THEY need to do to change things. Personally I think they should give employers a discount on National Insurance rates for people who have a PIP award, I think that would be a balanced approach to the issue which would avoid fraud. I think if enough people wrote in then they could actually look at the evidence and maybe make changes, including to how jobcentre deals with unemployed autistics/other neets.
Yes, but employers care about money and profits. By giving a discount on employer NI it would save a few thousand £. Staff still pay so they can contribute to pension etc. The PIP thing would help those most disabled (i know it's not 100% fair) but if it was based on self reporting or diagnosis alone it could be open to fraud by employers.
Society will never fully accept everyone. Humans are tribal creatures. You see this on the playground, the middle east, I don't think I'll see a utopian star trek where everyone is in it together and working towards bettering humanity so you have to compromise.
Employers already have incentives to hire cheap foreign labour so you need to incentivisethem the other way to employ the disadvantaged groups.
Trust me I've seen the discrimination all autistic face but until we have more autistic representation in HR /managerial teams or hiring teams i don't think the employment rate will increase.
There also needs to be more low skilled job options for low functioning autistic or neets because I see a lot of time when previous entry jobs don't exist now or require a degree. I've seen masters graduates (mostly from abroad) get jobs which should be taken by non degree school leavers.
Idk the country is pretty screwed, I will give my opinions to the report though, I have had my voice heard at work previously so I think speaking out can help change things.

Literally bro nobody is hiring my ass over an able bodied and person, and even they can't get jobs, so what does that say?

Not just the abnormal disabled ones, then.
FFS.

But not everyone who is NEET/ disabled gets PIP. To be honest, it’s a losing battle as what really needs to change is society.
