Mandela effect question...am I hallucinating a drop in alcohol percentage for Coopers Sparkling that has since been reversed?
When I first started drinking in 2003, I remember it being noticeably higher percentage than most beers. Then at some point (2010s?) It dropped to be in line with other mainstream beers, in the 4s
Had a bottle tonight at my friend's house and it was 5.8%. Another friend was certain that it's always been similarly strong.
Am I losing the plot, or was it a lot lower for a good while?
Edit: Huh, there ya go. I was sure they'd dropped it down to be the same as green for a while, but I've got that wrong. Thanks for all the answers everyone š
I can only speak going back to 2010 or so but Cooper's red at 5.8% and Cooper's green at 4.5% sounds about right. That extra 1.3% still made longnecks of red worth it when I was young and dumb though.Ā
Back in the 90s it was 5.8% and 4.5%.
Coopers is one of the few that haven't messed with the recipe. Fuck you Boags.
Boags did me dirty
Coopers red . Many stories could be told but won't. Turns you into a Pirate.
Coopers Red is arguably Australiaās best beer. It has always been 5.8%
I had 3 long necks one night. Cracking headache the next day alright.
Never happened with coopers for me. Tooheys on the other hand....
Tooheys New hurt me bad. Always gave me a headache.
I used to think that until I tried bentspoke and blackhops brewery beer....their stuff blows the coopers sparkling out of the water.
Worked for Coopers for 10 years. Itās been 5.8% since at least 2005, probably much longer than that.
I'll have to check when I'm at work next, But I thought Cooper's sparkling was 6.3%.
Might be mixing that up with another beer, but still 15 years working in liqour, my mind immediately thinks 6.3%
Cooper's stout is 6.3%, sparkling has always been 5.8% afaik
Coopers sparkling has been my go to fav for 15 years and has always been 5.8.
Extra stout is 6.3, pale ale is 4.5
All good drops i think
Th extra stout is one of the greatest
Pre craft beer revolution (25-30 years ago now?) 5.8% was considered very high alcohol. Now it's just slightly higher than average, with all the 6-8% ipas being so common now. That's probably what's throwing you off.
Coopers sparkling is one of my favourite beers and it's been 5.8% for at least 30 years. You're probably confusing it with the green which is 4.5%
Yeah, you always knew if you got a 6 pack of the Reds that you would be feeling pretty happy.
Definitely been 5.8% for as long as Ive been drinking it (2009-ish).
I was drinking Cooper's red back in the 80s and it was 5.8.
Same. With the ring pulls on the stubbles.
Well Iām amazed to have come across another person who drinks this beer š itās been my regular choice for 2 years now
It's a good drop mate
Aussie made and owned too unlike all the traditional Aussie beers
No youāre mixing it up with green.Ā
I know Emu Export used to be 4.9% because that was the first beer that we drank in the late 90s. I had one last year and it's 4.6% I believe
I used to drink Coopers Red and it was always 5.8% from my memory.
There used to be a line on the long neck back sticker which indicated half the bottle. When they changed the stickers a few years ago, the line was removed
Vb was taken down to 4.6, everyone complained and after a while went past 5%
Always been 5.8%
5.8% is what I remember it being.
Ha! I literally just said this last week. I had a sparkling ale for the first time in years. I was sure that it was higher ABV. Seemingly not.
I canāt recall the ABV, but Iām pretty sure a stubby has always been 1.6 standard drinks. Does that match what you had?
I really like the beer, but the high alcohol is a bit of a turnoff.
It's always been a strong one that's what helps give it that awful taste.
