I recently made probably my best production, its a "beat" without drums, only Melody and a vocal in the background, western vibe. But rn I do not have monitors in my studio so I am mixing with my headphones that are my only reference. How I can tell if that Melody sounds good? Like what are the main features that It must have? Because rn its sounds pretty well in my headphons but Im scared It Will sound shit on monitors or in the car, bc there are a lot of "strange" sounds.
Can you hum it? Can you sing it? Could another person hum/sing it from hearing you sing it - and capture 90% of the idea? Does it have a clear theme with an appropriate amount of repetition, without being repetititve?
There's no one rubric for a good melody. Largely comes down to if you like it, and next to if other people also like it. A melody shouldn't just be about the specific sounds. Don't worry about the mix at the writing stage.
Yea I like the idea, Im Just worried if It Will translate well on other devices
I guess I'm unclear if the melody is what you're talking about, or the mix. A good melody should translate across the majority of instruments across centuries. A mix/recording will vary on different systems. In between is your arrangement, which involves instrument selection and how the melody interplays with other elements.
Could you clarify what you're talking about?
In your other posts you say you're a mixing engineer, and I'm a bit confused. Are you doing this professionally? I'd hope you have these things down if that's your job/income.
Im currently studying for It, my question was about the mix, bc Is the First time using strange ambient sounds and I do not have monitors rn in the studio. So yes the mix not the areangement
I guess uhh... you're a mixer, so like... just listen to it and give a professional opinion?
How do you mix other things?
Try to write music that you feel is so good, that people will still love it if it’s mixed like shit and played from a tin can.
Use an online melody certification tool.
If it gets stuck in your head later, it's probably good.
