Conny is kinda scamish. They say they do it for free - but they want all the rent you overpaid. You are legally allowed to demand back from your landlord all of the rent you overpaid up to 30 months of the start of your rental agreement. They also take what you overpaid in deposit since the amount you have to deposit in Germany is dependet on the height of your rent. This can easily be up to thousands of Euros.
My advice: Get a "normal" lawyer. Or go to the Mieterverein.
Please DO NOT use Conny. Go through the process with the Mieterverein or another tenants association. Conny takes all the overpaid rent (that’s easily a few thousands euros) as their fee, when if you do it yourself/with Mieterverein all that money goes to you.
About 2,5 years. We got our judgement from the court after about two years, but then the landlord refused to actually lower the rent as per the court decision and we had to sue the landlord again to force them to abide by the court decision. That took another 6 months.
And yeah, it sounds ridiculous that the landlord could refuse to respect the court decision, but that's exactly what happened:
trotz des von uns vor Gericht geführten Verfahrens und des Urteils, das wir für Sie erstreiten konnten, weigert sich Ihr Vermieter immer noch, Ihre Miete auf die durch das Gericht im ersten Verfahren festgestellte Miete zu senken.
Um Ihre Miete nun dauerhaft und für Sie zu senken, ist daher eine Feststellungs- und Zahlungsklage geboten
But like others have said, Conny is not what they used to be. They take all the back rent that you get back from your landlord. In our case that would have been 11000€. Luckily we signed our contract before they made this change and the only took about 2000€.
Used Conny and it took 4 months. They told me over the phone they’d only take the difference of when they started the service. They got my rent reduced 450€, which is great! That’s when they told me they’re taking all 3800€ for themselves since I didn’t get it in writing that I’d want part of the refund myself. It’s not the absolute worst and I really didn’t have to do anything but I also started the process with them 4 months after I moved into my apartment.
If you can find a different way, do that before even talking to Conny.
We had great help from them when they were wenigermiete.de, they kicked off roughly 250 euros a month (from only 800 euros rent back then) and we paid 3 times the overcharge, but it was totally worth it long term! The landlord (Deutsche Wohnen) had to pay us back 1,5 years of overpaid rent. Conny only charged (if I remember correctly) 3 times the overpaid rent. So totally worth it IMO
The Terms and conditions of Conny changed a few months back. Now they take all overpaid rent up to 3 years back AND the overpaid deposit. Which is a crazy fee

not true I got my deposit overpayment back
It is true. They made me an offer in June whre they said they will keep the deposit.
How long ago was that?
Conny in the beginnings was really good. They just took little money like 3 rents and only the difference of what you overpaid.
Then they became a big business and got greedy. Now they take as much as they can get from you.
Its much cheaper to get an own lawyer or mieterverein.

But what does it cost to get the support from Mieterverein?
Don't use Conny!!! Use a lawyer or join the mieterverein!

Conny are clearly cunts
Don't bring cunts into this.
They didn’t do anything for three months and then told me „sorry, product is no longer available“.
By then any chance to do something had passed.
Don’t use this parasitic company.
