so I applied for literally every single supermarket for a retail position and got rejected (almost 40, speak german) - do they automatically reject people they deem "overqualified"? It's a bit scary, since I assumed if shit hits the fan one can always take on of those 15 euro per hour jobs that they seem to have trouble finding people - but it turns out... not really?
did that happen to anybody else? maybe anybody who works in hr who can give some insight?
that's suprising to me. if youre a decent worker the organic/bio markets should be interested in you.
Unfortunately in retail, you're competing with young people who they deem "fitter" and can do more heavy lifting. Have you tried fast food chains?
interesting, I assumed it's overqualitifaction, but you might be right and it's just good old ageism.
Same. 46, applied at every supermarket and got rejected by all of them. Apples at a local one who has a sign up begging for workers but still got rejected. I guess I’m just too old for them or the wrong type of foreigner.
