so I applied for literally every single supermarket for a retail position and got rejected (almost 40, speak german) - do they automatically reject people they deem "overqualified"? It's a bit scary, since I assumed if shit hits the fan one can always take on of those 15 euro per hour jobs that they seem to have trouble finding people - but it turns out... not really?

did that happen to anybody else? maybe anybody who works in hr who can give some insight?

  • that's suprising to me. if youre a decent worker the organic/bio markets should be interested in you.

  • Unfortunately in retail, you're competing with young people who they deem "fitter" and can do more heavy lifting. Have you tried fast food chains?

interesting, I assumed it's overqualitifaction, but you might be right and it's just good old ageism.

  • Same. 46, applied at every supermarket and got rejected by all of them. Apples at a local one who has a sign up begging for workers but still got rejected. I guess I’m just too old for them or the wrong type of foreigner.
