Like, not everyone here is a fan of his sound, but he has incredible songs like: Fire and the Thud, Crying Lightning, etc... besides being very consistent, what do you think?
For me it showed up on pandora a bunch. So I picked it up to hear the whole thing. I love the album as a concept. A drunken night out with friends where chaos and afterthought settle in.

Secretly, yes. Such an addicting sound that I haven't been able to stop thinking about since I first heard it. Alex Turner's move into more interpretive lyrics that are still rich with meaning and story is masterful. Every song offers something new to the whole. It's such a good length and absolutely flies by. It's by no means as flashy and upbeat as their debut or FWN and it's not as sleek and catchy as AM but the way these songs are written with the production style causes it to come out on top for me. I love it so much.
I was 17/18 when it came out and it was so surprising and exciting so it’s got a big place in my heart, Tranquility Base was similar because I wasn’t that into AM/SIAS which just felt less creative than Humbug…though I think the My Propeller EP is the best thing they ever put out

The Humbug live era really didn't help matters, they dropped classics they really shouldn't have and claimed they had moved beyond them (they've all since been played many times over). They headlined one of the biggest UK festivals with a mid tempo album opener that had been out a week, and then second went into a mediocre cover of a Nick Cave song.
I saw them live for the first time on the Humbug tour, whilst it was still an all timer in my brain for never having seen them in the flesh before, it was nowhere near as good as just about any of the 7 times I've seen them since then over the years.
But dammit if Humbug hasn't had the greatest staying power of the lot of them. It still sounds like what I want them to sound like, and a testament to that is that I'd rather hear the outtakes and unreleased stuff over a new album in this day and age. Personally it's a very close run top 3 between Humbug, AM and Tranquility Base, but Humbug just takes the top spot. For me it's the best full band effort they've done.
I came to know about arctic monkeys via AM. Till now , AM has occupied a special space in my heart and will always be. But , then I try other albums. And tbh... Humbug and fwn are bangers!! I can't compare them. The dark ,groove sound in Humbug is amazing. And the lyrics!! Oh my God, The jeweler's Hand,Dance little liar- Alex is truly a lyrical genius. Everyday I play song from Humbug....
(P.s: four out of five is one of my most favorite songs from tbhc. )
