Hello, we are visiting Antwerp over the holidays and my husband asked me to make a Guyanese curry for dinner for the family. I’m looking for a West Indian grocery store if anyone knows of one, it would be appreciated.
As a side note, we are from Toronto, Canada, and are very impressed with the multiculturalism of Antwerp.
Albert Hein has a “Jamaicain spice mix” or whatever that mean in their spice section. But honestly I do a plate that resemble the Guyanese curry and I end up doing my own mix.
Okay, thank you!
Depends on what you're looking for, I'd say. For Indian spices I'd go to the shops in Gummarusstraat. In that neighbourhood there's also shops that sell Brazilian food, which might be related I guess? There's also Surinaamse Toko Suroots (https://maps.app.goo.gl/PzvSbnbirtV1S1Gb8) in that area, but I haven't been there myself.
Options in the city center are Cajun in Hoogstraat for spices and Almacen in Reynderstraat for South- and Central-American stuff. Those last two are really close together, so quite convenient. I don't know about Guyanese shops specifically, but there might be some somewhere.
Thank you for this. We’ll check it out
Theres a small indian grocery store on charlottalei between stadspark and belgielei. Gill store on googlemaps.
