Not even. Mods are generally on the Orwellian side on this site. If you're not a left-winger, you get banned just for existing.
I have no political affiliation, so I don't even get to join the super right-wing subs in protest.
Going from "politics bad" to "politics bad unless it fits our own views" is inherently political in itself and blatantly showing an agenda that is not for the users, but for the mods. That is the worst thing you can do as a mod.
Your job is to protect your community, not your fwagile widdle feewings. I've called out many mods from subs I've modded on for this. Did so just earlier today, actually.
Read their comment again. It’s about banning words. It’s not specifically about the n word which is the first one they’ll be banning. There will be more, that is their point. It’s not about being freely racist, (which wasn’t even in their comment in the first place mind you) it’s about memes that have the n word in them. Now people that can say the n word, can’t even make a post with that word in it. At what point is it crossing an unspoken line? Next we may not be able to gender people that clearly go by gendered pronouns, or speak about certain political events. It’s not about specific things being banned, it’s about the slippery slope that follows.
Slurs as a whole are banned on reddit this isn't some gotcha it's mods not wanting to chance being banned for users using slurs reddit doesn't care if you're black saying the n word will still get you banned
Brother, how will you be able to tell if a person can use the n word or they can not?
Also, this is the wrong place for that. This is antimeme, what are so pressed about how the rules are managed here. Like this is not a political place to begin with
None of this is politics lol this about being non offensive.. I mean I wish they wouldn't either but I've completely changed my opinion right this second because it pisses people like you off. You're still on the site dummy. You aren't getting banned for existing.
The first amendment has literally nothing to do with the conversation. Not only because it's the internet, and so not everybody in this sub are going to be from the US, but the amendment also doesn't protect you from getting a post deleted by Reddit mods
Kinda ironic to say others have no life when you're bitching about not being able to post slurs on a subreddit you don't have to be a part of. Make your own subreddit if you don't like where this one is going
Because Reddit is a leftist site. Always has been. Nothing is protected and you can have your whole account deleted permanently at the drop of a dime. r/art is a great example. Egotistical mods pushing an agenda that silence voices and throw temper tantrums when they get public backlash.
Because you don't know what the first amendment is. It protects you from government censoring three media and allows you to discuss any topic. It doesn't protect you from being banned from any company owned app or community owned subreddit if you break the rules. On Reddit mods can ban you because they don't like you personally, and first amendment won't protect you
While I understand the frustration around upcoming changes, I want to make it absolutely clear that this community will remain politically neutral. Under the new rules, all political partisanship and agenda-driven content, on any side, will be removed. The only exception is basic human-rights advocacy, which is not political under our guidelines.
Also, the type of content in this post wouldn't removed for anything political. Under the new rules it would be removed specifically for violating Rule 3.1.3, which bans the explicit use of severe slurs (including the N-word). That rule exists to protect the community from harassment and harmful language, not to push any political view.
My priority as the new top moderator will always be safety, not debate. Fairness is important too, and we value fairness, but safety will always take priority. We don't want to ban well-meaning users, but if they post content that will reasonably increase harassment, hate, or targeted discrimination, they'll be more likely to be banned than not. That isn't about ideology, it's about being a responsible, decent and moral human being, it's about protecting the community. These standards are not up to negotiation.
We're here to keep this space enjoyable and safe for everyone, and the new upcoming rules reflect that mission.
I appreciate the response. Most mods would just remove and lock. And they have! 🙃
The only exception is basic human-rights advocacy, which is not political under our guidelines.
Based on the pinned post, "...explicitly allows basic human rights advocacy (support for LGBTQ+)..." The whole LGBT thing shouldn't be a political issue, but we live in a fucked-up world, so it is. I fear that this is going to snowball, as it so often does, into r/pics. I, as a rule, avoid politics. Any sub that is even moderately political without needing to be is a no for me. I like this sub, and I don't want that to happen to it.
That rule exists to protect the community from harassment and harmful language, not to push any political view.
So this post would be removed despite doing nothing wrong, simply for the content of the original image? Even if it was censored? I'm not a huge fan of that. If you're taking suggestions, allowing exceptions for posts such as this would go a long way.
We don't want to ban well-meaning users
After the whole goat rope in the art sub, I'm afraid that's a rare mentality to have, although refreshing.
decent and moral human being
Well, I guess I'm in trouble. I'm EVIL. :)
We're here to keep this space enjoyable and safe for everyone, and the new upcoming rules reflect that mission.
Like I said at the start of my reply, your response is reassuring. I'll remain optimistic that this sub is going to get better, not worse, under the new rules. Seems well thought-out.
(Lol at the downvotes. Keep downvoting. Each one is a win for me.)
"The whole LGBT thing shouldnt be a political issue, but we live in a fucked-up world, so it is" "I, as a rule, avoid politics." hey so the politics youre talking about avoiding are based on whether or not a group of people should have rights, thats kinda like avoiding the topic of slavery while it was legal, idk man
If you really thinks moderation is bad, then imagine what would happen without it. Spam, scams, karma farming bots, n words and slurs everywhere and that's only the beginning. If you really think that rules are bad, welcom to anarchists. You arent welcome anywhere.
Youngsters these days with their rotting brains and all that, back in my day we had fresh, dank "mei meis" such as nyan cat, but you whipper snappers will never understand
I understand that o-meme has n-word and that's bad, but at the same time I don't understand why its against the rules if someone just provides the source while antimeme itself doesn't have anything bad. Isn't it kinda good example of how people take bad things and turn them into good things. I don't think source images should be judged, since OP has zero relation to it. I mean, tons of memes nowadays have slurs and other offensive stuff and sometimes I'm thinking like "Damn, this would be a good or even wholesome lobster/antimeme", but since source is kinda bad you just can't do it now? At least, we might allow censored version or something. I believe there are better ways of going around this. We already reusing the same template 99 times, this would make the area even smaller.
You see what they’re doing by to the sub right? It’s gradually started happening over the past few months. You see more and more posts about a certain group of people and anyone who questions why the sub is being flooded by posts on said subject gets downvoted and banned. They’re completely astroturfing the sub, just look through the daily posts and you’ll see 3+ posts about misgendering or transgenders or femboys.
It’s blatantly obvious that they’re pushing an agenda and silencing anyone that speaks up so it looks like everyone is okay with a bunch of low effort propaganda slop on their feed. These new rules are just to prop up their “authority” over a sub I used to enjoy before all of these crappy processed “anti memes” got pumped out.
Lemme get up on my soapbox and say I like the attitude of getting it all out of the way before it's banned. It'll stop the whole sub from being some 2018 era dank memes shock value slop, and it'll mean we can let these riskier jokes get outplayed or enjoyed for just a little bit before the type of people who are Xitter's target audience tear apart the sub like they do far too often.
Just don't get obnoxiously horny like 196 pls, I really like the balance this sub has struck.
The community has decided that this IS an antimeme!

We've been seeing a lot of these lately before the rule changes take effect
This isn't nsfw though?
It's not as bad as r/notinteresting but there are a lot of dogwistles
Well when mods decide to push an agenda and go 1984, you gotta take what you can beforehand.
Classic Reddit mod take

Nice straw man buddy you know exactly what he’s talking about.
strawman??? its literally whats happening?? 😭

the post is precisly about the n-word.
so you say his reply is just some unnecessary unrelated bullshit?
i guess i can see that

Damn, I wish lmfao
What part of no politics is pushing an evil political agenda? Did I miss something?
Regardless of whether your words are true, in the context of this post, it is a total non sequitur.
Bro is mad because no n word lmao
None of this is politics lol this about being non offensive.. I mean I wish they wouldn't either but I've completely changed my opinion right this second because it pisses people like you off. You're still on the site dummy. You aren't getting banned for existing.
Why is not wanting to see slurs a political thing to you? And how is banning those slurs not protecting the community?
I love when I’m “protected” from my first amendment right.
The first amendment has literally nothing to do with the conversation. Not only because it's the internet, and so not everybody in this sub are going to be from the US, but the amendment also doesn't protect you from getting a post deleted by Reddit mods
Because Reddit mods have no life lmao, they’re egotistical dorks and the posts being pushed on this sub show that. It’s all for clout.

You can just say you wanna say slurs. The right will accept you all the same man.
What view? The view that you shouldn't use racial slurs? I think I can forgive that agenda
If you really thinks moderation is bad, then imagine what would happen without it. Spam, scams, karma farming bots, n words and slurs everywhere and that's only the beginning. If you really think that rules are bad, welcom to anarchists. You arent welcome anywhere.
"Independant Thinker" can't say the N word, proceeds to cry about it. More at 11
I got the feeling the community is fine. Maybe move on to X or some other "free speech" social media.
The number of downvotes on this comment just proves that reddit is a far left echo chamber. I miss when reddit wasn't political :(
Don't bother. Manchildren on this site will never listen.

Feels like every other post here now the joke is just saying slurs. This sub's quality is decreasing.
They’re just getting their last ones in before dec 13
What's happening then?

I'm confused, why would this post be banned under the new ruleset?
They're adding a rule where you can't have slurs in your posts. Since the original meme has the n-word, it wouldn't be allowed
I understand that o-meme has n-word and that's bad, but at the same time I don't understand why its against the rules if someone just provides the source while antimeme itself doesn't have anything bad.
