I have 8 GBs of RAM for a while now and man, I dont think I am even halfway done with all the games that interest me in my hardware range (that I know of).
Yeah real. I've used a 1080 for almost a decade now, and it's only recently I've ran into things it won't just play on Ultra High - that being Frostpunk 2. We've been plateauing for awhile, and the only reason we've needed stronger hardware is cuz people stopped caring about compression or cutting bloat.
Relax. Just buckle down for a few years, someone will fill the RAM vaccuum. NVidia is switching to AI chips because they're worth more, and someone else will start making RAM to corner that market.
Imagine if some games start releasing exclusively on streaming services. Some very anticipated AAA titles. Yeah, people will rage, but eventually they will normalize it. At least, I think that this is what is going to happen.
It wouldn't surprise me. When the best option for companies is the worse option for consumers, the easiest way to force a switch is to take away consumers' best option. Exclusivity has always been anti-consumer but streaming services capitalize.
People shilled for Netflix when they started streaming too, now piracy is back on the rise like crazy because people realize how fucked the streaming service stranglehold on media is.
eh... We do...?
I don't think it is a common as you're making it out to be lmao.
Most games are made for older gen cards, and most people are on older gen cards.
Plus most people were aware the GPU prices have been inflated over they years because of Crypto and now AI.
Can't really poor shame people for the market being rigged because of assholes farming Bitcoins.
Frankly the only time I'm really pressed on someone being angry about PC games are the ones who are irritated that they can't run games on an intergraded CPU from a commercial grade Del PC.
Nvidia GeForce NOW is probably going to see a shit ton of subscribers after this starts to take effect. Shits about to be rough for those without a good PC for the latest stuff. Glad I still only play things like TF2 and such like that, but those stuck on playing the latest are going to be stuck for a while.
I lack funding. Hell the only reason I even have a 4060 is because I bought my previous card during COVID prices and it died just barely before warranty ended. So I used the warranty refund to buy a better card when GPU prices went down.
Guess I'm stuck with my beast of a gaming laptop for longer than I thought. Thank god I brought that shit right at the beginning of this year before this all started happening
OP having the assumption that everyone buys a gpu brand new off the assembly line when stuff like Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, and eBay exist for people to buy used.
What? I have something like a 5 year old PC and I still can run most games easily many of witch look so good I wouldn't change anything in them. If someone is making games thst can't run on my PC then it's just shit optimization. And my PC wasn't that expensive. Oh also I'm using AMD so there is that.
We need game developers who are focused on memory and compute efficient games, that respect the user's resources. Start thinking like embedded systems programmers; you'll have more fun, make better games, and players will thank you.
I have a 3080 and was thinking of upgrading in 26 or 27 but it seems like I should probably just do it now. I'd rather not do that but I really don't wanna pay 2k for a 5070TI next year
If been playing many indie games or older year games, aka KSP or Arma and let me tell you they can go and piss off.
Streaming work fine but a lot of people, especialy majority not in the west dont have a gig connection to be able to stream there games, they are the ones who are about to set sail
Ok fuck this I'm going over to AMD and Linux out of principle.
Fuck nvidia, fuck microsoft, fuck this artificial scarcity. I was already moving to Linux but now I'm replacing the 3060 with an AMD card as well. It'll be easier anyway.
I’ve been an Xbox player for a while cause I cannot afford a pc (and the Xbox’s I got were a gift, I couldn’t even buy those myself) And now this saddens me even more.
I was thinking about upgrading so I could play Cyberpunk 2077 next year, I hope that's not out of the picture now. I've been waiting since the teaser came out right back in 2014.
It’s about supply and demand at this point in time. There aren’t currently any actual shortages besides more demand for ram in commercial ai. Nvidia is cutting down their supply and I can only assume it’s partially because of cited reasons but also because they’d be able to hike up the price to more than it already is.
At some point, the prices will fall, but I really don’t know when. It’s likely to coincide with the bubble popping
I wouldn't call them slop, but modern games have an unacceptable ammount of data bloat causing them to require more expensive components for smaller increases in quality.
This is the part where they double down on shitty game streaming services so they can charge subscriptions for everyone who can't afford hardware.
If buying isnt owning, pirating isnt stealing.
But if one can't afford the necessary hardware to run said pirated game...
I think I understand what the end point is now.
I have 8 GBs of RAM for a while now and man, I dont think I am even halfway done with all the games that interest me in my hardware range (that I know of).
Good point. There still are a plethora of games that don't need fancy hardware.
But I still can't help but think that the big gaming corps especially are going to take "own nothing, be happy" to the highest level they can.
Yeah real. I've used a 1080 for almost a decade now, and it's only recently I've ran into things it won't just play on Ultra High - that being Frostpunk 2. The high seas are calling
we get it, youre a pretentious pirate. as someone who also pirates, stop being a snob.
services that won’t even work effectively without fiber.
I have tried it on fiber. It still doesn't work effectively.
Tbh I’m not surprised.
Not to mention that GFN was enshittificated recently with 100 hours play limit per month on paid subscriptions.
Well they can't understand that I don't need the latest GPU to run 2010 games. Most AAA titles are crap anyway so jokes on you Nvidia o
GeForce Now is amazing and work fine. If you keep making shit up nobody is going to take you seriously
People shilled for Netflix when they started streaming too, now piracy is back on the rise like crazy because people realize how fucked the streaming service stranglehold on media is.
Americas internet infrastructure isn’t good enough for streaming only
At this moment I feel like I have dodged a bullet having built my PC like 3 months ago.
I‘m crying in my corner! I wanted to build a better one next may :,)
Same.....
Same, except in January
TBH I've been rocking with my 3070 for the last 5 years and I don't see a reason to upgrade so you'll be set for 2030 no problem
Built my PC a year ago and I can sell it for a fat profit, it's actually disgusting wtf is going on with this shit.
I'm never giving up my PC.
I built mine last week, I dodged an even bigger bullet
I really hope my 5060 ti can hold on... I need to get a 5070 ti asap
Indi games that can run on low specs are about to take off like crazy
¡Viva la revolution!
I for one welcome our new indi gaming overlords.
Is this finally the age when PC gamers finally stop poor shaming people for not being able to afford the 6969 RTX+?
eh... We do...?
I don't think it is a common as you're making it out to be lmao.

Since when was the 5060 mid-range?
Meanwhile, me with my 1060

Then there's me with a vega 11 igpu.
The 60 version of cards was always the lower-mid/mid range option.
NGreedia just jacked up prices so hard, it now costs as much as previous generation 80 versions.
Micron and NVIDIA likely single-handedly killing the modern gaming industry for short term AI profits
Welp, looks like my 4060 will have to live up to the legend that was 1080ti and also stay relevant for a decade.
Buy a spare. 🤑
I lack funding. Hell the only reason I even have a 4060 is because I bought my previous card during COVID prices and it died just barely before warranty ended. So I used the warranty refund to buy a better card when GPU prices went down.
Indie games were already vastly superior to AAA.
This is basically a non-issue (from the perspective of simply playing most games) and makes them even more desirable than they already were.
If anything I hope this encourage bigger studios to optimize better wnd not only cater to the top gamers
My monitor will be a 4K OLED.
Unfortunately for me, this mean that any GPU under 12GB VRAM is insufficient for my needs.
how about AMD? is it going down that same route?
Memory shortage will affect everyone since there are 3 companies total that manufacture RAM.
Glad I bought a new GPU in July. On top of that being my Christmas gift for my dad.
Screwed for everything else tho. Rest of my computer is a hand-me-down, all plans I had on upgrading the everything else are basically out the window.
RAM is what's going up. The other parts are fine for now.
Guess I'm stuck with my beast of a gaming laptop for longer than I thought. Thank god I brought that shit right at the beginning of this year before this all started happening
Good thing the Steam Machine is on the way. 👍
I'm glad I slipped off the gamersphere years back when I did
computing and gaming is fun, but the circle can be absolutely horrendous. I was mostly on my own for a while because of it.
Honestly, I'm glad that I've built my gaming PC back in April before everything got expensive. Besides, I mostly play older triple A games and Indies.
Welp, here comes the indie game boom. Again.

you vvill own nothing und be happy
Right now I'm stuck on fucking Xbox cause I have no money, meaning I either pay an absurd price or have no multi-player games. Gonna kms.
OP having the assumption that everyone buys a gpu brand new off the assembly line when stuff like Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, and eBay exist for people to buy used.
higher costs will eventually cause any non-ancient used gpu to go up in price too
Product is already made, this is just sheep mentality like with imported cars
GPU prices go up => people buy more used GPUs => higher demand with the same supply => used GPU prices go up
What? I have something like a 5 year old PC and I still can run most games easily many of witch look so good I wouldn't change anything in them. If someone is making games thst can't run on my PC then it's just shit optimization. And my PC wasn't that expensive. Oh also I'm using AMD so there is that.

Prices on consoles about to go up again as well.
Overpriced GPUs become even more overpriced
I have a 3080 and was thinking of upgrading in 26 or 27 but it seems like I should probably just do it now. I'd rather not do that but I really don't wanna pay 2k for a 5070TI next year
Line must go up. If we cannot fire people to make line go up, we will sell less. By increasing demand & reducing supply, line surely go up.
If been playing many indie games or older year games, aka KSP or Arma and let me tell you they can go and piss off.
Streaming work fine but a lot of people, especialy majority not in the west dont have a gig connection to be able to stream there games, they are the ones who are about to set sail
Very happy i have my RX 6700 XT and an optiplex with a yeston 3050 in it because i aint upgrading for the next decade apparently
2026 is going to be TERRIBLE, with how many bad things are coming that year
Ok fuck this I'm going over to AMD and Linux out of principle.
Fuck nvidia, fuck microsoft, fuck this artificial scarcity. I was already moving to Linux but now I'm replacing the 3060 with an AMD card as well. It'll be easier anyway.
About too? Skyrocketing pcies have been making building or buying a PC a luxury for quite some time now. Get ready for $1000 mid-range GPUs!
More and more convinced the computer I'm building rn will be the last one I'll ever own. I guess I'll self-terminate when it dies.
I’ve been an Xbox player for a while cause I cannot afford a pc (and the Xbox’s I got were a gift, I couldn’t even buy those myself) And now this saddens me even more.
Jesus, im holding to my 2023 rtx4080 with tooth and nails, I thought there was zero reason to upgrade but now it's like a million reasons to keep it
I was saving for a long time to build a desktop 6 months later when I move to a new place. Is everything going to cost double by that time?
"Mid-range cards like RTX 5060 Ti"
I was thinking about upgrading so I could play Cyberpunk 2077 next year, I hope that's not out of the picture now. I've been waiting since the teaser came out right back in 2014.
Thank you ai
So many things going wrong at the same time, hmmmm

A fucking 5070 Ti is mid-range?!
About to ? It already is
"Oh, whatever will I do, Nvidia is making their cards more expensive."
"You know AMD has some really good carrds that beat NVidia in price to performance."
"WOE IS ME! THERE ARE NO GPUS LEFT TO BUY!"
Guess I'll be rocking this 1660 until it breaks
Luckily I got my 5080 desktop for free
Games that require a powerful GPU are slop anyway.
☝️🤓
Ehhhh I dunno bout that, ff7 rebirth was pretty banging.
Living in another reality.
Take that back. XPlane is very hurt by your mean comments
I wouldn't call them slop, but modern games have an unacceptable ammount of data bloat causing them to require more expensive components for smaller increases in quality.
Stardew Valley SUPREMACY
