Here is a pretty comprehensive list of the most asked question that we get in modmail with their appropriate answers.
My post was immediately removed for low karma / new account?
We have a pretty strict automod filter to prevent spam from bots, to post you need 100 comment karma (earned in the sub itself) and an account older than 50 days. We do not make exceptions for this, so if you want to start posting, just comment on other people posts and wait to get the amount of karma and days you need.
My post was immediately removed because of the title?
“All posts must be titled anime_irl”, it’s the basic rule of the sub, any title that doesn’t have this format gets automatically removed by the automod, the filter is pretty lenient for spelling of "anime_irl" so stuff like "animeirl" and "anime irl" also work.
My post was removed automatically by the automod because of too many reports?
If a post gets over a certain amount of reports, it gets automatically removed, this of course it’s not perfect and it can happen that post that don’t break the rules get removed this way. If one of your post is removed like this send us a modmail with the link of the post and we will review it, but just so you know the automod has a pretty high report threshold, so if your post got removed like this it very likely breaks our rules and you should first look at them again before sending us the modmail.
My post was removed because it’s not “expressive/relatable”?
Rule 5 is our most subjective rule so it can be difficult to enforce it fairly, we NEVER remove a post just because only us mods think it’s not expressive or relatable We usually remove for this reason when there are also a lot of reports for that reasons, so it’s not just our opinion but multiple people. Also we are more strict with this rule with post that are meme-y or that aren't directly from an anime/manga (so for example comics/images made by online artists that aren’t an actual anime or manga even if in that style)
My post was removed because it’s altered content / edited content but I found it online like this?
If a picture taken from an anime or manga has any kind of changes that weren't on the original it counts as altered/edited content. This can range from meme captions (not to be confused with actual subtitles from an anime) to just changing the means of the text to alter the context of the image. Having users tags or social media tags or even badly cropped screenshots also counts under this.
My post was removed because of nsfw/untagged nsfw buti t didn’t contain anything nsfw?
Under this rule we not only remove stuff that could be too nsfw for the subreddit, but we may also remove images that are taken from popular hentai doujinshi or manga/anime. Of course we don't know every single Hentai work so it’s likely that some posts slip through us, especially if they don't have anything sexual.
My post was removed because it’s a repost but I didn’t see it / can’t find the original one?
Due to the nature of the sub (all post having the same title) it's pretty difficult for both us and the users to find specific posts. For the repost rule we mainly rely on reports from users, but there are certain arts from popular online artists that we know for sure always get reposted (you know who I’m talking about). We also usually allow some reposts if the original one was from a long time ago and the original post isn't in the top 100 of all time of the sub.
If anyone has any other big question, feel free to ask them under this post and I may update it in the future with new stuff.
A likely story.
Please, for the love of God, stop letting people post horny shit that ain't even irl and relatable!!! I'm begging y'all, please start fixing this place up!!! There's barely any irl and relatable memes anymore, and the sub's entire reputation is beyond fucked!! I'm just asking for some better moderation here, please!!!
If I was allowed on the mod-team (very unlikely), I would literally ban half the regular posters after one warning.
Agreed! In the wise words of Ted:

I just came here to say this as well, I was about to post common hs romance drama and im assaulted with all these horny bait posts. Whats even going on anymore...
We've been dealing with horny bait for a LONG while now and it's so fucking annoying. However, as of late, someone has been spamming the sub with incest posts and then getting mad that they are getting taken down. It's honestly a mess here lol
Yea its like way too much. Maybe im too old but I don't even remember this much horny bait posts when this sub was first created. Kinda sux i really loved the normal IRL stuff that was posted here. got me through some tough work days.
It's not that we don't have irl posts anymore (filtering by new is so clutch lol), but it's just that it gets flooded with horny gooners. I've been trying to counteract this by downvoting and reporting the clearly not irl/relatable stuff while posting some actual ir/relatable stuff, but so far I haven't had the best luck
Thank you for the effort, Maybe they will eventually do something about this cause its almost like any anime subreddits i go to is all just discrete OF accounts or gooners posting hentai memes and related stuff
Yeah np lol. I too am tired of the OF bait and gooner posts, so I'm just trying to do my part to make a change
literally 90% of posts that get removed automatically by reports or manually by mods, gets reposted few hours later without getting removed
The rule about memes under rule 5 should be more clear.
Either allow them and let this sub turn into another anime meme sub or make a clear rule that memes are not allowed.
The definition of meme could already be quite loose, and by such definition "memes" must be allowed. They just need to follow the other rules, i.e. be relatable.
Majority of the things being posted here aren’t even IRL-related. People just use this sub to farm karma and keep reposting the same content from other subs. If I wanted anime memes, I’d go to goodanimemes or animemes. Might as well rename this sub r/animemes 3.0 Pro Max with ginkgo biloba.
Maybe a ban on memes would be good. That would be a change greater than just "a clarification of rule 5" though. (Temporary) banning of people posting stuff that is obviously more horny or funny than relatable might also work, even though it would piss a lot of people off.
But the biggest problem is that the people posting memes and horny stuff don't even read the damn rules.
With summer anime 2025 just around the corner. Hopefully, a discussion can be added within the mods to improve the subreddit.
1) Limit the amount of post to each account to just 3. Hopefully, will limit karma farming to some extent.
2) Spoiler, either ban new episodes/ chapter for 2 days or add a rule about using spoiler tag.
3) Repost… just no repost in general. We (mostly me) want new content, not recycle post that already have thousands of upvote from years ago.
4) Ban hentai post all together. There’s a r/hentai_irl for a reason. We have reverse image search tools.
5) While the implementation of the source rule was a nice addition… some account just ignore the rule. Add new members to the mod team so that they can focus on that area.
6) Hopefully, move all anime/ manga fanart post for the weekend. Have actually anime/ manga to be posted during the weekday.
Overall, this subreddit needs serious overhaul. I joined this subreddit almost one year ago and lately, I’m seeing hentai post, unrelated post, repost of a repost of a repost, post without source, and the list goes on and on.
I just hope this post is supposed to mean the mod team will actively look to deleting porn, there's just so much porn on this subreddit for the sake of just gooning because gooning itself is 'relatable' even if the image is just thirst bait

Lol the rules are damn simple and not strict at all.
Just post screenshots you find relatable from anime/manga/visual novels and fanarts since that is this subs purpose..
Seems fair but the report function is easily abusable so maybe look into that. Many subs that rely too much on reports have these issues.
Is it just my feeling or
THIS SUB DEAD SINCE THIS RULE ADDED?
post past 1 hour when i comment this dont even have above 10 upvote despite number of member in this sub which is weird. I usually get tons of upvote posting in other sub with far less member

No source rule might help weed out the lazy and uninspired. Sounds good to me.
About the memes.
I was wondering if it was possible to remove the mention about the meme-y posts under rule 5 and add it to the rule 9.
So the rule 9 would be something along the lines "No altered content and no memes"
The way it's currently worded under rule 5 leaves room for people to argue that memes are okay if they are relatable.
we are gonna add that part under rule 9 too, but we would still like to keep it on rule 5 too
Nice!

What's with these bot-like comments on this post basically all saying the same thing?
Actually, looking at their post histories, they all appear to be advertising Only Fans.
Mystery solved.
I thought this sub couldn't get worse, but this last month has proven me wrong.
Do you even read reports, or does automoderator do everything?
Including literally this post, which is full of bots?
Can we have a rule that at least EXPLAINS how its irl
there is one, it's rule 5
I think that the other guy is asking for a rule for someone to explain for an OP how their post is relatable in a similar fashion to rule 11. Rule 5 just talks about how a viewer should be able to look at the post and say that it's relatable, but sometimes it can be a little hard to find despite being very much relatable. This way, it could help viewers understand posts better and filter out the karma farming slop posts
Hello, hope the mod team can answer a question of mine. I saw this post where a bunch of comments were deleted by the mods Why were the sources removed by the mods?
Can I post related VN screenshots?
yes vn are fine if they are in anime style
I just called out one of the regulars here for regular rule-breaking and he got so mad that he blocked me.
I would've preferred if he got warned by the mods (or banned if necessary), but when it comes to my own front page at least, this accomplishes the same thing.
My post kept getting removed due to Rule 5
How is this not relatable or a meme/edit
https://www.reddit.com/r/anime_irl/comments/1pazdv9/anime_irl/
I feel like this sub have something against me
Yeah this seem quite relatable to me as well, not sure why it is removed.
Another one like seuriously. I am done with this sub.
https://www.reddit.com/r/anime_irl/comments/1pbvaad/anime_irl/
The sub is nothing but sex and sex related things, not very _irl coded at all.
[removed]
no, they only need to follow the format of the sub
you can do anime_irl, animeirl and many other similar configurations
You're replying to a porn-bot.
And this is its fourth comment in this thread. (the comments get deleted, and then the bot returns a few weeks later)

Yk, I'm curious, how do these bots work? Do the owners send them off to work in SFW subs while the owners interact in the NSFW subs, or are those replies in the NSFW subs bot replies as well? Genuinely curious, so I would appreciate it if this bot owner could reply. I doubt that they would even bother replying, but I would still appreciate a response
It is OK my love

In relation to rule 10, do posts containing fewer panels of a previous upload count separately? For instance, there are two posts of Nan Hao & Shang Feng in the top 100 posts that contain the same panels of a character getting an injection with one of the posts featuring more panels before it.
For reference:

This is in the top 100 posts twice:

But the idea of the sub is super simple: relatable screenshots from anime/manga/visual novels.
So if you don't post memes or straight up hentai, you are fine so i don't see how that's strict.

Okay, this bot ain't even trying lol. At least the other ones kinda fit the post, but this is the most generic bs I've seen in a hot minute. Bot owner, if you're reading this, you got a update your system dude. This shit is straight ass lol
[removed]
Genuinely can't tell if this is a bot reply or if the bot owner is trolling. If it's the former, the bot owner REALLY needs to update their system lol. ChatGPT 1 would unironically work better than this
