  • Perhaps shiny Dratini is simply not real.

  • So Steam Sale!

Lots of things on my wishlist on sale... probably shouldn't buy anything. Probably will anyway.

    I'm thinking:

    • One indie game
    • One big game
    • Two middle games

And leave it at that. What'dya think?

    What'dya think?

I think "Anime Armpits" being 25% off seems like a deal I can get behind.

Nah. Gimme that "My roommate is a femboy" game.

    I mean, what?

  • another thing I'm surprised was never fully elaborated on is [ZZ] the Ple/Ple-Two situation. were they modified twins? clones? are they Glemy's test-tube babies like /u/b0bba_fett said Glemy was?? it seemed like there were more Cyber-Newtypes in cryosleep or whatever, but we only see those "Newtype Forces" in the Qubeleys at the end. were they all Ples as well?!

  • My girlfriend has put kimchi on her leftover Indian food. Now that's multiculturalism!

    Did it taste good?

  • Literally writing Lolita quotes on the skin of girls you're raping

Local man reads classic book; misses the entire point of it

I think the only way this situation could be worse is if they were fucking Mushoku Tensei quotes, purely for the apocalyptic shitstorm it would bring upon this sub.

If you're going to share something like that, at least warn us beforehand.

Don't put that evil on pantsu.

Pantsu is a man divine taste, his name shan't be desecrated like this. He would never!

I don't think I want to know the context for this.

  • Sure seems like it’d be easier if he had his own ongoing to tie in with it, or at least a one-shot for the event

Also, I’m kinda mixed on DC bringing back Superboy Prime since the Summer of Superman stuff since Death Metal was a pretty solid end to the character

Also, I’m kinda mixed on DC bringing back Superboy Prime since the Summer of Superman stuff since Death Metal was a pretty solid end to the character

Doesn't help that everything I've seen has been varying shades of "lmao fourth wall breaking meta guy" so I can't say it's the most exciting use of him.

Heck I'm kinda wary on the idea of him being a hero in the long term in general

Sure seems like it’d be easier if he had his own ongoing to tie in with it, or at least a one-shot for the event

The sad part is that this is debatably an improvement over his previous state of "Glorified Green Lantern Supporting Character". Which isn't inherently bad (Hello Donna!) but it's for the Jeremy Adams run so... not the best writer handling things.

  • I have midnight tickets to see Avatar 3 Odyssey/Doomsday trailers tonight!

I'm leaving the option open to watch it with my family when they're here next week. Hope you enjoy it!

[ZZ] people complain about "the power of friendship" but some series really can pull it off in a compelling way. seeing Ple, Lalah, Four, Kamille, etc. was a really cool moment

[ZZ] Haman is so interesting to me. all of her cynicism and hate is driven by a loneliness that still compels her to repeatedly reach out to Judau, who stands as her antithesis. she's so strongly drawn to him while clearly not even understanding why herself. Judau can't beat the obvious answer into her head enough for her to let go of it all. And he still wants to try after all of her atrocities.

[ZZ] Mineva being a double was a huge surprise. I don't remember what the Gryps Conflict was, so I'm not sure when the switch happened, but I guess it had to be after the encounter with Char since they recognized each other.

[ZZ] as is tradition with Gundam, FUCK ADULTS (except Bright who solemnly accepts a correction on behalf of all the people who actually deserved it)

this is a particularly cute Elle

[ZZ] Judau and Leina FINALLY safely reuniting was nice, but what really got me emotional was Kamille and Fa running and spinning on the beach. they deserve a happy ending.

so is Jupiter cool? they chill there? I don't think it's been brought up before, so surely souls are not weighed down by gravity, yes? no colony drops, no gassings, no horrifyingly destructive mobile suit battles?

    [ZZ]Gryps Conflict

    [ZZ]That's just Zeta's events.

ahh okay, so after/during that final showdown then

    ZZ Gundam Finale

[ZZ Gundam]I thought you were so close to getting the Mineva twist when you were asking questions yesterday. I didn't want to spoil it for you, but it puts it into perspective. What Haman sees in her, why she protects her, and why Mineva would choose to run away. It makes it a great and clearly identifiable example of children being used in war as playthings for adults advancement.

[ZZ Gundam]I've read some comments online that they believe Bright was lying. Mineva wasn't a double, but he is trying to gift her a normal life instead of being continued to be used as a figurehead for ambitious people to take advantage of. They have no evidence to support this, just a theory people like to believe

ooh I kinda like that theory, it would explain why she remained so dependent all the way until the escape attempt. but if not, [UC] I've heard she's a main character in Unicorn and now I'm super curious if it's the real one or this double, since the original was just "missing."

[ZZ] PLE-TWO DIES?!? I completely missed that, I thought she just fell asleep after using all her strength, but looking back she's fucking missing from the group afterwards. I get there are time constraints in an episode but damn, this series really does undersell deaths sometimes

  • HELL YEAH!

Trails of Cold Steel I and II are 50% off, and Trails of Colds Steel III and IV are 60% off.

That’s 88€ for 4 games I am planning to complete next year instead of 200€

  • I know we got a few chess players in here, and while this isn't technically like playing chess, it's chess-adjacent, so...

There's a new daily game to waste time on!

My score (for standard, I'll try advanced next):

    Capture Standard #4

    3:08

    👑👑👑👑 👑👑👑👑

(Don't know what the crowns mean, I guess it's because I didn't fail any?)

The new york times is a gaming company that runs a news site

    damn Canada, stealing our chess

    We'll take your baseball next.

    Advanced score:

    Capture Advanced #4

    5:17

    👑👑👑👑 ♟️👑👑👑

Failed one of them, needed to redo it!

It's a tiny bit more challenging, but I guess it mostly just requires a bit more thinking!

    Only available in Canada?!

    Oh damn, really?

Why is a NYTimes game only for Canada... Did Canada conquer NY and no one told me?

Apparently it's in beta still and while in beta it's only allowed in Canada lol

This Beta is only available in Canada for now.

Aww, didn't notice the ca in the link hah.

Weird that a chess game on NY times is only for Canada.. (I saw the link on chess.com too, another American website?!)

(Am I missing any CDF chess enthusiast?)

/u/thecomicguybook is one. Mind you Comic, the thing he's talking about is in beta and only available in Canada.

I think /u/Iron_Gland knows the most chess users here.

Me, I guess? Mostly online 5-0 at this point and watching recaps, though I did get to go to the USA vs India showmatch earlier in October...

Nice! I never assisted chess tournaments live, but I do watch a lot online (and play a lot online too, mostly bullet 1-0 hah)

I hate online chess with a passion, because it sucked a lot of my time that I could have spent on fun or useful things. Does that count?

  • It's 19 and I haven't done anything

  • youve been hit by, youve been struck by, youve been smacked by, youve been slapped by, youve been punched by, youve been thumped by, youve been knocked by, youve been whacked by, youve been

Truck hitting the bollard gif in text form.

  • [Connections] "components of an arts and crafts project" that SOMEHOW doesn't include STARS or FUCKING BUTTERFLIES ARE YOU SERIOUS?? Have you EVER seen a children's arts and crafts kit IN YOUR LIFE???

FUCK connections I HATE this game and I'll BE BACK TOMORROW.

FUCK connections I HATE this game and I'll BE BACK TOMORROW

This is 100% how I feel about connections, and pretty much for the same reason too hah.

But (hearing from 'pro connections gamers') I think the idea is that we're supposed to solve ALL 16 before doing it, so if you add these to the category you think they belong, there will be things that don't fit with anything else, so you know something's wrong.

But doing that is a pain, so...

Of all my dailies, Connections is my least favorite. Sometimes I skip it when the words are uninspiring to me.

Ooh can we start a Connections thing here as well as Wordle? I find it fun but really frustrating when it's like "one of the top 100 songs in 1982" like who the heck knows that?!

oh god the overly specific pop culture trivia is sooo bad, I cannot stand it. why can't it at least be something cool that a normal person would actually know? stuff like "primary themes of Kamen Rider seasons" or "Monogatari girl's animals"

If we do, I'd only be contributing on Mondays & Thursdays (I play it with my coworkers whenever we have a team meeting, which is every week on those days).

I actually got three of the categories entirely on my own today.

My parents also do it; I typically do it soon after midnight so it's really funny to hear them try to convince each other to try certain things. I'd say my mom typically has better intuition and often proposes the right combination but my dad overthinks a lot/isn't nearly as up to date on slang definitions of words and tries to convince her that it can't possibly be that set of words xD

Just try doing it yourself on those non-team-meetings days, suffer with us!

That category was the first one I got when my team played it today and I never once thought either of those two words fit in it, so... skill issue I guess.

  • Oh yeah this is great

Finally, a worthy opponent for the band EARPHONES. Their battle will be legendary!

But imagine if this were an anime band, too! Instant must-watch!

  • my own workpost rant I guess:

I understand wanting to personalize your cubicle and everything, I have a number of my own pictures on my cube walls, but taping Christmas lights and tinsel to your company-provided monitors and desktop tower? One of the monitors which you then ask us to troubleshoot, but surprise, we can't easily get behind it anymore because you put decorations on it? And one that's previously had issues and we've hinted we might need to replace down the line?

I swear some people don't think at all when they do things... me included, but still

  • 30 minutes until Steam Winter Sale

Anything particular you hope to buy in it?

Maybe that cool game I saw from Yabus' list lately.

    Sea & Sky! Found it.

    Oh so Pokemon game. Nice

Honestly I think I'm happy with my games. None of the new releases (or older ones) speak to me more than runescape has been over the past year.

The only game I was thinking about is Gnosia, but I'm too busy for this right now, I picked up RSL again so I'd need like 40 hours days to pick up another game.

    Deduction Visual Novel

Is that Among Us but Visual Novel?

More like the 'Werewolf' game, if you know what that is!

(The Gnosia anime is currently airing, if you haven't seen it! And yes, the Among Us references were everywhere in the first couple threads)

Ah I am well versed with Town of Salem on Steam so I'm definitely checking that one!

A copious amount of Touhou (fan)games!

Well, if any are on sale, at least.

    Touhou (fan)games

Oh. First look made me think they are Visual Novels but it looks like whole specific subgenre of games.

There's indeed quite a few of them, many don't have Steam releases (or English releases/translations) but there's more and more of those coming to Steam too which is nice.

I can personally vouch for the following games:

    • Artificial Dream in Arcadia (-50% off) I got 52 hrs of playtime on that. It's a Shin Megami Tensei-like game, certainly quite difficult at least for me. I enjoyed it though.

    • Fantasy Maiden Wars (-20% off) Super Robot Wars-type game and I got 161 hrs of playtime on that basically by just going through the story once. I intend to return to it sooner or later to continue New Game+ too.

    • Mystia's Izakaya (-46% off) It's a very cute restaurant simulator thingy, it's like 3 € and I got 116 hrs of playtime on that. Though admittedly, I also got all of its DLC, which seems to amount to like 14 € in total. Still very worth it!

    Fantasy Maiden Wars

Touhou is probably one of the few franchises where you could sell a game's soundtrack for more than the game itself and have it make sense.

    All of these looks great!

    I'll be considering them

I really shouldn't until I finish Persona 5, but... maybe that other large RPG fron last year, Kingdom Come Deliverance or something or another? There's also a host of other renowned games I haven't played yet...

Kingdom Come Deliverance is great! Would recommend. Very immersive, and the world feels very alive.

For KC:D II I can only recommend as I had a lot of fun playing it, plus the story of it was good.

Also what added to the enjoyment of it that lot of places in KC:D are few hours of travel from where I live.

Plus all 3 DLCs for it got released so it's the best time to buy it now.

The French JRPG has intrigued me for a while. So many lovers and haters.

I'm neutral about Expedition 33 as I still haven't played, nor I'm engaging in the whole drama, but were the haters so loud before it won Awards?

There were some people who didn't like the 3rd act twist but it seemed to be a very vocal minority, most people seemed to love it once the realization hit. When I have time I kinda want to replay so I can see all the previous seemingly unimportant charactees hinting at it as early as act 1. There's also some people who took umbrage about calling it a JRPG, kinda felt like they were trying to gatekeep JRPGs as a whole tbh (I'd say it's a "with heavy influence from the JRPG genre but not a JRPG itself)

    But definitely not as loud.

There's also some people who took umbrage about calling it a JRPG, kinda felt like they were trying to gatekeep JRPGs as a whole tbh (I'd say it's a "with heavy influence from the JRPG genre but not a JRPG itself)

Bruh. Who would gatekeep something that has already funky reputation in Western fandom.

If anything, more people should start playing JRPGs

I'd say one of the differences in gameplay is that E33 is not nearly as concerned about resource management or attrition as other JRPGs, at least as I understand it. No mana or other system to keep track of between battles, no 1-use consumables, and a number of full heals between "rest points" that are also replenished if a particular battle goes horribly wrong. (I can't dodge, this happened to me a lot.)

Of course there's also the dodge/parry mechanic which also makes it a bit different from most turn-based RPGs, Paper Mario being the other major title with it. Honestly like it a lot more than standard RPGs which sometimes feels like just a numbers game: either your numbers are high enough to win, or they're not, and there's very little skill that matters if your numbers aren't large enough. Meanwhile I've spent hours retrying certain bosses in E33 cuz it's not just a numbers game, it's a "if I only get gud and actually dodge this combo correctly over the course of the battle I can win this" which feels a lot more engaging than just grinding levels against mobs for awhile.

I'd say one of the differences in gameplay is that E33 is not nearly as concerned about resource management or attrition as other JRPGs, at least as I understand it. No mana or other system to keep track of between battles, no 1-use consumables, and a number of full heals between "rest points"

... Well I'm skipping it then

Lmao, you actually like the resource management aspect? It's always been one of the tedious bookkeeping things I'd rather not have to do for extended periods of time

Yeah that's one of the reasons why love JRPGs because at it's core, it's good old Math.

  • I've been sick and running on fumes for awhile and ended up passing out immediately after I made it home from work yesterday. I woke up around 10, was up until 3ish, then fell asleep again. I woke up at 8:40, when I live an hour away and am supposed to be at work by 8 at the latest

Thankfully I work a very pointless office job and noone really gives a shit, but I ferl embarassed.

    What the fuck.

As someone who grew up partly in the Stockholm Archipelago, I scoff at that number.

Sweden has an enormous number of islands, officially reported as 267,570

geez i had no clue it had that many

  • TIL a Nelvana Doctor Who animated series was planned in the 90s (apparently the BBC found a cheaper, British company and nothing ever got made) and there is various concept art out there and for a particular Doctor design I can't help but think Trigun (well, player 2 palette, most Doctor designs were an older man).

  • Shreddit, I still hate your new mod mail interface.

  • Seeing being used in another subreddit's comments made me do a double-take for a second.

    as a commentface?

That was certainly my first thought as I know a few other subs have comment faces lying around, but on closer look, it seems to just be Reddit's comment GIFs feature.

  • Would /u/noheroman (or other CDFers who have read it) be able to tell me if this comment is a 20th century boys spoiler?

[20th cen boys]If we're talking about Kenji, then no. But, there's a misdirection at some point and he is presumed dead. But, the cast is large and I currently can't recall if the original friend died or not. Note that the Perfect edition and the earlier edition have different endings, from what I know

    u/kendotsx do you remember?

[20th Boys] I'd say it's the same in practice. We're told that Kenji's dead, and the story moves on without him, Kanna enhiriting his spirit and all. The fact that he's alive is a later twist, but it doesn't change the passing of the torch, and I think that's what they were referring to in the thread. Applying that to the friend would be a more interesting way to think about it, but I doubt that's what they were going for there.

I'd probably say so. It's not exactly something that is foretold from the start, IIRC.

  • [Star Detective Precure names leak]New Cures supposedly are: Cure Answer, Cure Mystic and Cure Arcana. They sound more supernatural than traditional detective mysteries

[Star Detective Precure]Just the idea that we don't have a Cure Detective is surprising enough tbh. We've gone years where the main Precure is in the tite

[Cure]Arcana better not waste time in unveiling her trump card.

  • I can't muster the concentration to draw. Hence, I'm continuing working on writing a song.

Ended up turning this project upside down. Threw out previous chord progressions and song structures, keeping some bits of the original melodies.

    Somehow it still works

But I threw out a lot of work I did previously. Now I have to start again.

Yeah, holy cow, everyone defending it makes the entire thing seem sus as heck

  • I got myself a new stylus when I was on my trip.

My previous stylus wasn't made for drawing and more for general tablet use. The shape isn't exactly ideal for holding for a long duration. It had a rectangular cross-section, kinda like those carpenter pencils. It's very much serviceable though, and the stuff I've drawn over the past year and a half were all using that.

When I came home, I was a bit excited when I finally got to open it and have a better-feeling stylus to draw with. But I then quickly realized that I still have to draw.

The drawing part is my problem too. Nice pen helps tho. I was learning the program a couple days, and now I think I’m just gonna draw trees for a week.

  • Nightreign stuff, /u/Worm38

The everdark for the first DLC boss is already out and it's... not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I'd even say the new gimmick is less overwhelming than the regular phase 2. [Nightreign DLC] Though the intermission phases between rounds of fighting the Balancers sure drag out the fight. On one hand they're nice because they give time to heal + use items. On the other, they make it necessary for me to run a shield because I can't for the life of me dodge the rows of spears flawlessly.

I switched to the hot Scholar as soon as the DLC came out, did his remembrance thing. I still prefer Wylder because zoom zoom and big explosion with greatsword is oh so satisfying in combat, but he makes these new bosses much more bearable.

Before I even started my shift I see this woman ask her adult daughter not to take her grandchild down the stairs in a pram. She goes ahead and starts doing it anyway, so I run ahead to stop this woman and get in front of her.

I keep telling her I can show her the elevators because they are literally a few meters away and tell her not to do this.

Then she starts crying and keeps repeating to please let go of her child. Her mum - who is on fucking crutches and shouldn't be on the stairs either - jumps down to help enable her daughter's plan and starts helping her move the pram.

I ask why she's letting this happen when she was against this two second ago and she says it's because she's old and panicky and they have to meet someone downstairs.

    THENTAKETHEFUCKINGELEVATORINSTEADOFENABLINGYOURDAUGHTER'SSTUPIDANDDANGEROUSDECISION

She even says as a joke that this way the child has a cushion if the pram falls now.

I let them go, partly because I didn't want to escalate it but honestly I just froze with indecision and watched ready to jump in if things went bad. In retrospect I should've shouted for security or something, I dunno.

    1. Trails in Sky 2

    2. Trails into Azure

    3. Trails in Sky 3

    4. Trails from Zero

    5. Trails in Sky 1

(The first version of this comment had Trails into Azure on 1. but I recalled that Trails in Sky 2 had more PEAK TRAILS WRITING scenes, so that’s that)

Now to the spoilers I go.

[Azure Final boss]I defeated this boss on my second try, which is funny because I ragequited several days ago during that boss fight, but I admit that I wasn’t in the right headspace playing it back then. Thanks to /u/Raiking02 advice, I switched Randy for Rixia so my party for Final Boss was Lloyd/Ellie/Tiosuke/Rixia, and I defeated it by the power of CHEESE!!! Which was spreading my party members around the battlefield with everyone but Lloyd casting as Lloyd was moving around acting like a support, with occassionally Tio clutch healing with her Bell Quartz that made her act immediately after using Water Arts. All thanks to Boss wasting his turns on cancelling arts at one party member at time.

[Azure Ending]Then after the fight Lloyd jumped into the World of Zero, where he met with Guy’s apparition who praised me for having a good taste, and let me state something here. The entire progress of Trails from Zero, and Trails to Azure were me thinking that whenever an emotional scene centered around Lloyd’s inner turmoils with the OST Gazing at Your Back playing, it meant that it was about Lloyd about staring at Guy’s back as he was walking in his shadow. Until the Ending where Lloyd met with Guy as Gazing at Your Back playing, made me realize that the whole time it was actually about Guy staring at Lloyd’s back as he was moving forward on his own path that started immediately after Lloyd pick up where Guy stopped

[Azure Ending]That scene alone was PEAK TRAILS WRITING, and it was the reason why I was considering to say that Trails to Azure is even better than Trails in Sky 2... But at the same time, I hate saying it

[Azure Ending]And then Lloyd took KeA home

[Azure Post Ending]Now here is a lot to unwrap. Mariabelle took Weissmann place which I should see from a mile away with how much it was mentioned by Ouroboros that 6th Anguis place is Vacant, but I didn’t. Funny to say, when I saw her for first time in Trails from Zero, I thought she is actually a member of Society, Enforcer at best.

[Azure Post Ending]Ilya recovered, and Wald became submissive... but everything changed when Erebonia Empire attacked... which kind of makes me want to postpone Trails of Cold Steel because from what I know ToCS 1 and 2 happened at the same time as Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure. Naturally, I would love to continue where Azure ended, but as I have to saw what was happening at Erebonia during Crossbell arc I need to take a break from Trails for some time.

Also [Azure Post Ending]I dunno what song was playing during the Credits and post credits summary, but I swear that I heard some notes from Whereabouts of the Stairs!...

[The End]I stared at this picture for several minutes

[Bonus]During Trails to Azure, I loved how Main Menu background pic was changing during the game, and when I got to Main Menu after saving the clear data, being welcomed by this background pic was perfect

want to postpone Trails of Cold Steel

It's a pretty big shakeup from a gameplay and presentation POV so yeah, porbably for the best.

I thought it would be Y's and it was indeed Y's.

I'll see. I know they had a crossover so that's from I know it.

    But I'll see.

  • HoloFes results are up & I at least won tickets for stage 3 which has the most # of the people I watch regularly.

Still waiting on my midterm schedule, but it's something at least. Hopefully I can keep my original itinerary or swapping it isn't too expensive whenever it does come out.

Congratulations, those must have been some horrible odds.

From what I have heard the hit rate is ~10% for any individual ticket (or pair). The first round was paid fanclub entrants only and allegedly 30% of the entrants didn't win a single lottery so that sucks for anyone who paid and still lost, especially as I know a decent # of people who won tickets to multiple concerts.

Yeah, I've encountered that subscribe-for-better-odds business model elsewhere and tbh I ended up slightly distanced from it all.

  • [ZZ 46] Sayla!! and she speaks for once in a hundred episodes!! I'm gonna be honest, I was under the impression that everyone thought Char was dead this whole time. the last we see of him is his Hyaku Shiki not being recovered, and he really hasn't been brought up at all. I figured he slunk away in the shadows to do sneaky Char stuff, I was expecting everyone to be shocked by his "resurrection" in CCA.

[46] Glemy died doing what he loved, forcing his will on women. I'm still surprised to see how much Roux cared about him tbh. I was a little worried they would retread ground from Reccoa's arc, but I guess she's not too much of a woman.

    [46] Zeta Mk-II

    really good episode.
