So a small company messaged me on FB and said they want me to make a couple of animations for them and they said they will pay me.

They offered either a flat amount or payment based on views/monetized.

Which one is better?

  • I'm no expert but I think it's best to weigh out your options. If you already have fixed rates for your work then you can go by that. If you choose to go with the other option based on views then I'd say consider the level of engagement they get before choosing that option.

  • Definitely don't do purely based on views imo. You're still doing the work regardless!

  • Definitely go for the flat amount. Paying by views just passes their marketing risk onto you. Unless they’re a big channel guaranteeing millions of views, "revenue share" is just another way of saying "getting it for free".

  • Flat but don't cheat yourself out market rate pay. Go shop artists sites to see what their rates are. Be sure nit to commit to open-ended fixes beyond a "finished" product. Some customers will squeeze never-ending changes.
