I’ve been dealing with gradual hair thinning for about 10 years now. It’s mostly on the top, but I’ve also noticed some thinning on the sides. My crown has always had low density, even since I was a kid.
I’ve been on topical minoxidil + finasteride for about a year, but honestly I haven’t seen much improvement.
I’m trying to figure out what’s actually causing this — is it just MPB, or could nutrition or stress be playing a role? For some context, I had a really low vitamin D level earlier this year (around 9 ng/mL). I’ve only recently gotten it above 30 ng/mL.
Could vitamin D deficiency contribute to thinning like this, and is it too early to expect any changes from treatment?
Edit: All the pics on the same day. First four are with damp hair
First off, you should add timeline for the pictures in your post. Are all these pictures recent? Pic 1 and pic 5 look quite different. It looks like pic 1 could be wet hair and pic 5 is dry, not sure.
If pic 5 is your daily hair, I don’t think it looks bad. Maybe it’s thinned a bit, but I think it’s thick enough where nobody would immediately think “yep he’s balding”. Your hairline seems fine as well. If you’re very paranoid about the loss, maybe switch to oral finasteride (1 mg/day) and forget about it. I’m assuming that oral finasteride would be a better and more consistent DHT blocker.
Edited the post. All on the same day. First four are with damp hair.
I am worried about the side effects of oral finasteride. That is the reason I started with topical fin.
Mine looks the same as yours so commenting to watch this thread and any suggestions. Wondering if I can just hop on Fin or if I need Minoxidil as well.
