He wanted to keep the same furniture (idk why don’t ask me) but wanted it to look more like a “traditional” AK. Here’s what I was able to do! Also added a Bakelite grip and retention plate for him.
I used Amber shellac, denatured alcohol, and a random mix of Rit dark brown + red.

Hopefully that stock wood holds up better then what I had on my rifle, a chunk of the stock sheared off after 250 rounds when I bought my WASR.
Was it up near the cheek weld? Cause I had the same thing happen to mine early on. Fingers crossed his holds up, but the stock rests right up against the receiver so I have my doubts.
Yeah it shouldn't be like that. It should rest against trunnion and not the receiver.

It’s a lot easier than people think. Shellac is very forgiving, just sand everything down beforehand

No wood stain technically. Rit dark brown + a little scarlet red dye mixed in with the shellac and denatured alcohol. But I have seen people stain the wood first, then put shellac over top once it’s dry. Just depends on the look you’re good for!
How do you delaminate the wood? I want to do this to mine but not sure what I need yet.
I just sanded it all down with 180 grit. After that wiped it down with denatured alcohol. Let that dry then lightly hit it with my shellac mixture. I think I did about 3 or 4 coats

Thank ya! Well I’m not completely sure exactly what it’s made of but it’s magnetic so it’s definitely not aluminum. Probably some sort of cheap steel?
When you ask if there are holes behind the husky logo, are you asking as if you were to take the husky logo off would there still be the pegboard holes behind it?
