AI can be of assistance for people with disabilities but a lot of people seriously overinflate it as an overall benefit. It's just a lazy "Oh so you must hate disabled people" debate cudgel
Not as bad as the common rebuttal of showing a disabled person drawing with their mouth or feet lol. Makes as much sense as being anti elevator because disabled people can just crawl up stairs
I am anti ai, but whenever I see anti-ai people berate people for using gen Ai for something even when they were honest about it I want to facepalm. If we want people to be honest about using generative Ai then we need to not attack them
Dude, please put away the victim card. People may not want to support AI due to ethical concerns, and thats totally valid, the same way they don’t buy other products because they don’t agree with how they were produced.
not the person you’re replying to, but it usually isn’t a victim card. i’ve experienced this exact thing online and irl. you can be honest, open to discussion, and in my case, not even use AI for much other than clarifying shit occasionally, and you will have people legit jump down your throat about it.
usually it’s some variation of “oh, did you need ai to come up with what you just said?” or “how does it feel to take jobs from real artists and writers?” (for reference, i am an artist and crafter. i’m also a writer by profession.) i saw a post a few weeks ago on some popular sub about coming up with slurs for people who use AI (i am not joking or using hyperbole here, btw. someone who uses reddit more might be able to find that one still)
i won’t deny that there are real arguments and discussions to be had here. but there are a lot of reactionary people on both sides who will jump at any chance to insult another.
why do you use generative ai, and why won't you stop? it just so simple to not use something with so many harmful traits for your creativity. or the planet. just because countless things are killing Earth doesn't mean we have to keep giving in to the next easiest thing that makes life worse.
i love how you decided to be exactly the type of person i called out in my comment. there are valid discussions and arguments to be had, as i said. but it’s not worth the emotional energy to argue with a reactionary who’s determined to maintain their ignorance 🤷
"I know all of these other things are just as bad, but you don't understand... I like some of those things, and I won't be giving them up, and I don't like this one particular thing, so you need to give it up. Why won't you do that? Don't you know how harmful it is?! And it has absolutely no benefit to anybody because it has absolutely no benefit to me. You should only participate in the harmful things that I personally find acceptable."
anyways, if you feel personally attacked for me pointing out that you simply just can't resist giving in to your life being easier and less intentful, thats your issue, not mine. we need to put our foot down somewhere, Ai is a great start with how simple it is to not use it. All im saying.
But I can answer it. The short answer is: "I don't want to."
See, you asking "Why won't you stop?" is really an attempt at emotional blackmail. It's also an attempt to pathologize the use of technology because you don't like it. It's loaded language and it's sneaky behavior.
You're framing the use of a product/technology as some sort of vice at worst and morally policing its externalities at best. But all of it implies that you, as some fucking plebbit hall monitor, have any sort of moral authority over what any other human being does.
The long answer to "Why won't you stop?" is "There is no compelling reason to, and I am deriving benefit from it, and most important of all, I don't fucking answer to you." and it's so absolutely nonsensical that you would even ask the question unless one understands that the entire point of asking is to reframe yourself as some sort of righteous, sober person resisting temptation.
If you want us to stop using this technology, your only option is to appeal to the only actual source of any authority: Force. You must use physical force, or get someone else to use physical force, to stop me. And you don't got the stones.
Anyway, since I took you apart, this is probably the last I hear from you. Because you know you're wrong.
Anti moral police always frame this like people only use AI to make cartoon pictures, but never stop to imagine it has legitimate occupational uses. Why would I stop using something that drafts emails, summarizes meetings, creates reminders, and saves me hours every week? I value my career and personal time more than fringe online opinion.
If I suddenly dropped AI tomorrow, it would tank my productivity and several of my coworkers’ as well. All because a random Reddit user decided the tiny sip of water used on my weekly reports is a moral crisis? That's not a serious argument. Like it's cool that you work in a field that doesn't demand productivity increases and multitasking on several projects, but to those of us who can seriously utilize it, it is extremely useful and increases productivity while lessening cognitive load.
"Stop thing because I think thing bad" is not a thing that has ever worked in history.
Did you even read the comment you replied to, or did you just see the word 'AI' and let the pre-written script take over? They predicted exactly what you were going to do, and you walked right into it like a rake in a cartoon.
You are literally Exhibit A. You are the exact reason people are reluctant to be honest, because they know people like you will show up to debate-lord them with moral traps.
Dude, these subs prop up the most extreme examples of bad actors to attack, are you really convinced those are majority opinions? Cause if they were, people wouldn’t be reacting strongly to them at all
yea some empirical evidence like statistics would be nice! instead of you and GNUr000t claiming your anecdotal experience to be absolute fact
I've had plenty of anecdotal experience of seeing pro-ai people being assholes, but its not a FACT that all pro-ai people are like that just because of my experiences
Friend, it's just a fact. There's social and financial incentives to attacking the Current Bad Thing and anyone involved in its use. Therefore, people are going to attack Current Bad Thing and anyone involved in its use in order to receive social rewards.
And someone who wants to target someone else for incentives of any kind would certainly appreciate and advocate for potential targets to be bound by a mandate to label themselves as targets.
your anecdotal experience on reddit or twitter is not undisputed fact. most people just want to be aware of what their buying and looking at. consumer awareness isn't a bad thing.
in fact consumer awareness can also be beneficial to Ai artists. If someone is looking to hire an Ai artist the contractor will probably go to the ai artists that are labeling themselves "ai artist" rather than the Ai aritst hiding behind some other tag
i would call what you're doing more 'cynical speculation'
Aren't you the same person who's been up and down this thread talking about how literally no amount of anecdotes proves anything? And you're using a single anecdote of something not happening to prove it never happens, or at least doesn't happen to an unacceptable degree?
If I showed you a picture of someone not getting mugged on the subway, does that mean nobody ever gets mugged on the subway?
Anyway, you go ahead and let me know when I start lying. All I ask. If you can't do that, just say no, no need to change the subject, and in such an ineffective way.
same here. Like I acknowledge that AI is simply progress of technology, and when technology progresses jobs are lost (writers started disappearing after the printing press was invented, etc), but that doesn't mean I'm just like "oh yeah its better that they lose their jobs".
Both sides can be shit, that's why I got that sweet sweet neutrality
I fully agree that spamming slur-adjacent words like clanker, tin skin, wireback etc is bad and that some antis do that but GOD do some pros like to complain about it in the cringiest way possible.
No dude, getting called a clanker isn't a sign that the other party wants to fucking murder you
On Twitter, I saw some Anti-Ai guys posting this meme. The struggle is reals, also, I don't expect them to say much, because their peers will try to cancel them.
Machine learning has a lot of potential in a lot of fields, and Pro-ai people keep making that point (which I agree with). My problem is that they act like anti AI art people don’t want that. They say “oh you don’t like AI image creators? But think of how machine learning can benefit the medical fields” like those two have anything to do with one another.
Let me be clear, I AGREE that machine learning has potential to benefit people, but that potential is not in art
what you don't understand is that it has potential to benefit the arts as well. and i say this as an artist. in the future, you will see animation transformed by this. compeltely and utterly transformed. where shows aren't expensive and risks can be taken and there will be much more interest and willingness to create.
in games, with the coding alone, is already being impacted by it as we speak. and even there we have already seen ai art or voices used, even if just as placeholders. all that is useful.
But AI images and voices take away from real artists and actors. And the argument of “it’s already starting to be implemented” is weak, because it’s out of the control of the creators, and usually from the corporates that call the shots.
The arts are for human creativity, not machines
Also you’ve been posting about AI for years, and haven’t posted anything about your own art, so forgive me if I’m hesitant to believe you’re “saying this as an artist”
this account was specifically made for this. i don't care if you believe me. would you rather believe the ridiculous notion that there are no people like me? then go ahead.
it doesn't matter what AI takes away. if it does, then people need to adapt. there is no sense in smashing the machines like the luddites did in the past. that's the lesson here. and just like those luddites, you blame the corporates instead of understanding the core of the situation.
AI is used because it is useful, not because of whatever ridiculous notion you have for art or competition or your labor value (as if you define that). if i snap my fingers and all of the execs and big companies dissapear, ai would still be useful. and more importantly we would still be on the same trajectory.
it's not about what AI will change, it's about how world will look afterwards. that's what people need to focus on. everything else is useless or straight up detrimental. and being anti-ai is both.
My first argument was saying AI CAN be useful in other fields. But it should stay out of the creative space. We don’t “hate technology” we just think AI should stay in its lane.
and my reply was that AI will affect the arts as well. the follow up reply was in that context as well. when i'm talking about adapting, and letting AI make the changes it will inevitably make, i'm talking about the arts as well.
this lane you're talking about just doesn't exist.
I mean yeah its a good meme that captures feelings but I ain't disagreeing just because they don't say it nicely. Its kinda stupid to have that expectation and I would basically disagree with everything because there are always people who say the same damn point in an angry way.
To be fair, it’s not really a good thing for people to say it an angry way, of course when they have the point but everyone else is too stupid to realize it, of course there’s a valid reason there, but saying it an obnoxious or rude or hurtful way is gonna make others think people who like or dislike ai are like that, that’s one of the main reasons a lot of misinformation comes, because I see a lot of post or comments sometimes saying “oh all (insert group of specific thing) are like that!”
But to atleast try to make people less hostile or obnoxious, it’s best to also not be hostile or obnoxious, the main reason the sonic fandom and anime fans were so hated back then was because of SOME people, ruining the reputation of the genre.
When someone says not to interact with them if “you ever used ai”, being anti ai and having to be in the same boat as people who react that insanely, it’s hard to see.
At this point most people have used ai, even anti ai people, especially from before the technology was more understood and as developed.
Also when other anti ai people hate all types of ai.
When people on either side of the war send death threats. Make your point with out having to threaten to hurt someone. It honestly makes you look like a jerk and reflects on other people in your group
"Antis are wrong because people made fun of crypto and NFTs and look at the value of Bitcoin today" drives me up a wall. As interesting as a Blockchain might be as a technology, cypto and NFTs are mostly just gambling with extra steps. Not something to be celebrated, and certainly doesn't help with "AI Bro" allegations. The great thing about AI is that it allows you to do actually do and create things with it, and currently there are a lot of ways to get into it without spending a cent. Everything that the Antis claim about LLMs is true of Crypto, I consider any Pro bringing it up to be a deep cover Anti saboteur. If people like playing with Cryptocurrencies and Blockchains, that's fine, but don't bring it up in the AI context. Separate technologies, different issues, divergent potential.
Dude, you gotta give an actual reason not just “anti ai people” because not every anti is obnoxious and not every pro is obnoxious, but just saying “anti ai people” is just dodging the question! You gotta give something specific like “oh I agree that ai art isn’t really art but being all rude about it bad.” You know what!? You’re no longer the ranting geek! You’re the non ranting geek now! Because you failed your duty to rant!
The meme isnt actually saying they will literally disagree with them overall
Good thing I never said the meme was expressing disagreement. The meme said "you lowkey don't want to agree". I clearly got the substantial difference between "I now disagree" and not wanting to agree. I understood perfectly the first time.
Have you never read a Reddit comment and thought "good point, but damn, you sound completely insufferable"
I've NEVER thought that. Not for an attosecond. I consistently see this popular moronic meme used by people who think that.
My concerns are: is this counterproductive for my side? If no then is this amoral? If it's neither I praise it or don't care.
Or "youre right, but you dont need to be such an unbearable asshole about it."
Never thought that.
Thats what the meme is talking about and poking fun at.
Like I made clear I always understood the meme. It seems while falsely accusing me of misunderstanding you didn't understand me. Ironic.
If I despise the delivery and it's not actively counterproductive it doesn't matter. It never will.
I'm not stupid. I don't want to disagree or feel disgusted because they had a style I don't like or might even hate.
It's dumb and short term that people keep posting this fucking meme and even worse actually relating to it.
Okay well you said all this
All of the three quotes showed clear and present obvious understanding of the meme format.
Why would you accuse me of misunderstanding the meme while then using those three quotes?
Did you read any of those three messages?
Did you understand any of those three messages?
I don't think anybody who either read or understood would then explain to me the meaning of a meme premise I debunked because I clearly understood it that's why I was able to debunk it.
where it seemed like you were taking a stupid joke a bit too seriously.
Just because it is in a meme format doesn't mean it's a joke. A joke requires a punchline. There was no punchline present. It seems if I add any text to an image you'll call it a joke.
This is just somebody relaying an experience they have and unfortunately others have related to. As I explained they shouldn't relate to it.
The OP titled the post "What’s something that makes you go like this" they're directly asking people myself included if they relate to. They don't expect frivolous or silly answers.
Like I made clear I always understood the meme. It seems while falsely accusing me of misunderstanding you didn't understand me. Ironic.
Relax dude Jesus Christ lmao
Don't tell me what to do.
You're assuming there is anger or that you can detect anger. You cannot. There is no anger. You cannot detect anger through text. I'm tired of this lie. It's so archaic.
You're antiai too. I'll show you the basic dignity, respect, and consistency you didn't show me by not critiquing you for being insufferable unless you either actively hurt the movement or do something evil. You're welcome.

True, but it's not a zero sum game. Both can be cringey.
I am anti ai, but whenever I see anti-ai people berate people for using gen Ai for something even when they were honest about it I want to facepalm. If we want people to be honest about using generative Ai then we need to not attack them
Why do you think they want people to be honest about it? It's so they can attack them.

Then why does every popular ai art post have hundreds of comments calling it slop
It almost never is.
Dude, these subs prop up the most extreme examples of bad actors to attack, are you really convinced those are majority opinions? Cause if they were, people wouldn’t be reacting strongly to them at all

I agree with parts of both sides so
When either spew violent or personal attacks
When either post ragebait or something for the purpose of provoking people in general
When pros act like there shouldn't be protections for someone's work on the Internet or sometimes even at all
When antis act like AI saves images rather than information on observed patterns from an image
When pros act like it's invalid to have any concerns about AI being used to replace work
When antis act like those concerns are an AI issue and not a systemic issue
I could probably go on for a long time like this.
same here. Like I acknowledge that AI is simply progress of technology, and when technology progresses jobs are lost (writers started disappearing after the printing press was invented, etc), but that doesn't mean I'm just like "oh yeah its better that they lose their jobs".

But to atleast try to make people less hostile or obnoxious, it’s best to also not be hostile or obnoxious, the main reason the sonic fandom and anime fans were so hated back then was because of SOME people, ruining the reputation of the genre.
I hope this makes sense, I’m not good at explanations and arguments.

Misspelled her name
Ohhh yea that makes more sense, she sometimes makes some pretty valid points but sometimes she does it in a pretty obnoxious way.
Praising corporate overlords for "giving us AI" when being pro...
Some of the pros on here. Like Im generally willing to accept Gen AI as a tool but God so many are just vegan levels of insufferable.
Anti-ai people
Dude, you gotta give an actual reason not just “anti ai people” because not every anti is obnoxious and not every pro is obnoxious, but just saying “anti ai people” is just dodging the question! You gotta give something specific like “oh I agree that ai art isn’t really art but being all rude about it bad.” You know what!? You’re no longer the ranting geek! You’re the non ranting geek now! Because you failed your duty to rant!

I’m an anti
I just see a lot of antis being pricks for no reason and it pmo
Then say that… if you just say “anti ai people” it doesn’t make any sense, you’re just hating on the whole group in that context.
I know, I just couldn’t come up with anything specific. But I always remember seeing it and getting mildly angry, just not the actual take itself lol
Nothing. It is irrelevant whether I personally hate the delivery/way the opinion is expressed or not.
I'm more concerned if others also hate the expression to the extent of being counterproductive to my side.
My concerns if they accidentally say misinformation or evil things especially hateful things.
The meme isnt actually saying they will literally disagree with them overall
Have you never read a Reddit comment and thought "good point, but damn, you sound completely insufferable"
Or "youre right, but you dont need to be such an unbearable asshole about it."
Thats what the meme is talking about and poking fun at. Its just a joke.
Good thing I never said the meme was expressing disagreement. The meme said "you lowkey don't want to agree". I clearly got the substantial difference between "I now disagree" and not wanting to agree. I understood perfectly the first time.
I've NEVER thought that. Not for an attosecond. I consistently see this popular moronic meme used by people who think that.
My concerns are: is this counterproductive for my side? If no then is this amoral? If it's neither I praise it or don't care.
Never thought that.
Like I made clear I always understood the meme. It seems while falsely accusing me of misunderstanding you didn't understand me. Ironic.
Okay well you said all this where it seemed like you were taking a stupid joke a bit too seriously.
Relax dude Jesus Christ lmao
All of the three quotes showed clear and present obvious understanding of the meme format.
Why would you accuse me of misunderstanding the meme while then using those three quotes?
Did you read any of those three messages?
Did you understand any of those three messages?
I don't think anybody who either read or understood would then explain to me the meaning of a meme premise I debunked because I clearly understood it that's why I was able to debunk it.
Don't tell me what to do.
You're assuming there is anger or that you can detect anger. You cannot. There is no anger. You cannot detect anger through text. I'm tired of this lie. It's so archaic.
Holy shit youre insufferable.
No wonder you cant relate to this meme lol
You're antiai too. I'll show you the basic dignity, respect, and consistency you didn't show me by not critiquing you for being insufferable unless you either actively hurt the movement or do something evil. You're welcome.
I’m sorry Gng, but your responses are so formal makes me think YOU ARE AI.

Using homelander as the meme version of yourself says a lot about a person

This particular one is fine and established, but yes, I always do the "Fry squinting" face when I see Homelander used. Use Sportacus, he's way stronger anyway.
