Well, were Notre Dame to have gone all in and joined the ACC they'd have in all likelihood rolled over either UVA or Duke in a conference championship game and have waltzed into the playoff.
But, no. Notre Dame football is somehow sacrosanct and would never debase themselves by joining a conference. They are above it all.
I understand that it hurts SEC fans' feelings that they don't join a conference. Good for them for not bowing to the outside pressure of outsiders. It shows strength and character, two things lacking in the leadership of universities in the major conferences.
But all that has nothing to do with the fact that they should have been in this year ahead of alabama.
But I also understand that alabama being excluded would literally destroy the lives of thousands of people.
Oh, for crying out loud. ND changed the pronunciation of a QB's name so that it rhymed with "Heisman." And I'd imagine that people in South Bend are still lighting candles for Lenay Kekua. Strength of character? Give me a break.
For what it's worth, I didn't think Bama deserved a playoff nod this season. But frankly, neither did ND. So do with that as you will.

It's an entirely different kind of thesis. Altogether

One day we’ll get our shit together again. One day…
To be fair to the OP, ND absolutely should have been in over Alabama regardless of the end result of this game.

Anyway, Roll Tide.

A 3 loss team should never even be considered for a sop in the college football playoffs unless they are a conference champion.
ETA: and I despise ND.
Agree with the 3 loss statement.
I am neutral on specific teams except Michigan. Can never root for Michigan.

You bring up some great points as to why ND should not have been in...allegations of mispronounced names, lighting candles. I'm convinced.
I agree
If you were "all Vol" then you would care about the outcome. Cheating Tide winning is never a good outcome to anything.
We're used to it and we didn't make the playoffs. Oh well.
Hey, next year we got this. We’ve been in a rebuilding season since….um….
