Doctors are often not super informed on lots of things, unfortunately. Was it a GP? If so, makes sense. If it was an obgyn though, maybe consider going elsewhere
She probably just mentally got them mixed up with other dental guards, the stuff that prevents you from grinding your teeth at night or the sports ones that prevent them getting knocked out during high impact activity. Both are much more common than dental dams lol.
People tend to change health topics all the time to doctors. "Hey doc I also got this wart on my foot..." yaknow?
My guess is, doesn't want to be held responsible. She's an MD not a dentist, but as a medical professional any advice she gives would be considered in court to be professional advice. She wasn't aware it was for non dental reasons, and probably didn't care the reason, she wasn't willing to give advice she's not qualified to give even casually.
Like, the reason I gave up CPR Certification. If you're certified you're legally required to assist in an emergency, and I refuse to be legally required to help if I was in a position watching the Tangerine Terror choke for example.
Can I ask what country you’re in? Or area that legally requires someone with a certificate to preform life saving actions. I have just never heard of a place that does that, so I’m curious.

Yeah it was my GP. I know people aren’t always up to date on the latest forms of protection, it was just funny in the moment

When I was a teenager, I asked my gyno about safe sex practices for lesbian sex, and she didn’t really know, but said to “try saran wrap”. 🙄
