Why does that happen? Youjo Senki is set at German Empire on World War I, not Nazi Germany at World War II. Tanya is not a Nazi. Some dumb normies keep calling her a "Nazi Loli" and some people, including me, did know her through that. She is not a Nazi, she is an German soldier from the German empire at World War I. She may be blonde and blue eyed white girl which could be seen as 'Aryan', but this also doesn't make her a Nazi. Youjo Senki also doesn't feature swastikas. It does feature Iron Crosses, the Iron Cross is another symbol that is not originally from Nazism, it was originated in Prussia and symbolizes bravery, and the German Empire also used it.

  • Loli Hitler makes for better thumbnails and titles

  • I think it's possible that everyone knows Nazi Germany better than the German Empire.

Same kind of person who thinks Nazism started in 1939.

  • Her uniform more closely resembles the popular conception of a WWII soldier than a WWI soldier.

This is why many works will give someone a Pickelhaube if they want to avoid accidental association. That helmet automatically signifies “WWI”.

Yeah it doesn't help that WWII german uniforms looked sick as fuck.

Yeah, kinda wish they would've gone closer to the book illustrations, but I totally understand not wanting to touch that with a ten foot pole.

this shows how dumb people are because the pickelhaube was quickly replaced by the stalheim DURING WW1.

  • Ppl are ignorant nowadays, that's all about it, they think an anime or world where an empire takes the same place as Germany in the European map is automatically Nazi ignoring WW1 and the German Empire which is way more suitable to the universe. Ig it also has to do with the uniform of the infantry that looks like WW2 Germany's when the German Empire also used gray uniform and the Stahlhelm...

(Also ik in the episodes closing illustrations there is an illustration of Tanya sitting on a Tiger tank, but that does NOT make her a nazi when many German soldiers in WW2 weren't even Nazi)

  • Because the average Internet user assumes everyone in a German uniform is a nazi. They dont know anything about the first world war, Prussia or how the Nazi's appropriated German iconography to legitimise their reign.

  • It’s not even our German Empire, it’s a whole different alternate universe where magic exists and Germany was unified under the Großdeutsche Lösung.

Well at least they only took austria. Austria-Hungary showed pretty well that its not a good idea to try to unify the balkans with all those different cultures

but yes, you are right. people just are uneducated and want to find things to be enraged about.

  • All these replies remind me of the not so long ago backlash because of Vtuber Zentreya's military outfit which was based ON HER ORIGINAL MODEL

Shit is getting out of hand man

When everything is a Nzai, nothing will be a nazi

  • It's more like a vague World War Period. The show uses a lot of WWI-ism, but there are WWII references in there. Off the top of my head, Rommel is a character, there is a parody of Raising the Flag Over the Reichstag in the movie as a part of Tanya's conquest of not-Russia, etc. The setting as a whole is a fantasy counterpart to WWI, but the series itself has moments which also invite WWII comparison in a way which seems intentional.

Since most people know very little about WWI, those are what stick out I think

  • Calling her evil in the english title certainly doesn't help

That and the average person is really stupid and also ignorant of history, most would not be able to tell you the difference between imperialism and fascism

  • I dunno, people tend to make assumptions on first glance because it’s easier than sitting down and ingesting the material? Ultimately, there are no Nazis in the story to my knowledge unless magic Hitler is gonna have a cameo somewhere down the line. So if anyone genuinely has a problem, just laugh at ‘em or something.

  • General aesthetics, they're being Not-Germany, the terribly translated title and assumptions i guess.

  • They’re tourists.

    Without visas.

    This Tanya Trump meme...

    froths at the maw

    THEY’RE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!

  • Most people who watch it just say it as a joke, because Tanya is evil, but most people aren’t familiar enough with history to tell it’s Imperial Germany as opposed to the Nazis. You’d think it’d be easy with the lack of Nazi symbolism, but apparently not.

  • it’s because people on both sides of the spectrum refer to her that way, neither of which have actually engaged with the series on any meaningful level. braindead nazis tout her while the uninformed and unwilling to learn crucify her.

  • It’s not WWI though. It’s a pan German (+ many western Slavs and Hungarians) state engaging in interwar period warfare. The escalating coalition and capitulation of France + the nordics with a UK led by a Churchill adjacent figure who stays in the war reads a lot more WW2 than WWI. Not to mention that the main character fights a North African campaign with a guy named Rommel before invading the Soviet Union (where she is lusted after by a Beria figure).

In internal governance and treatment of minorities it’s definitely more akin to WW1 Germany than WW2 but the theming is all over the place. I don’t think the WW1 comparison is any stronger than the WW2 comparison.

  • I’ve never heard someone unironically call her a Nazi.

It’s always just “oh, she’s a German war criminal. Nazi har har.” Rather than actually considering her someone who would commit a holocaust, they just want something that gets a reaction, and saying Nazi definitely would, and gets the point across a lot faster than actually explaining.

Like I have not seen a single meme where she’s people off to auschwitz. And as long as that’s still the case, I think it’s fine.

I mean, she would do that, she just doesn't because that's not what the regime wants her. The whole premise of the book is that people behave differently based on the context they live in (literally the reason she gets reincarnated). She loves telling you how much she disagrees with what her government or the military does, but then does those things anyway. In fact, she modifies her behaviour even when not required if she thinks she can get something out of being a model soldier. If she were reborn in Nazi Germany she'd be a Nazi, the only thing stopping her is not being in Nazi Germany.

  • The uniform they use is more similar to that of the Nazi uniform than the Imperial German uniform, and people always go off of first impressions.

  • People have the tendency to mix up the Second and Third Reichs.

  • Because people are dumb and don't know how Nazis really are/were.

  • The author didn't directly track the setting onto WW1 (its set more than a decade later) and many of the esthetics are more WW2 inspired. Beyond that, some of the only people that hate communists as much as Tanya are fascists like the Nazis, the Imperial Germans hardly liked them, but they were more of an annoyance than enemy no. 1. I love the Manga, but its clear that even if none of this were true, Nazis love Tanya. You can't interact with it on most forums without picking out at least one cringey nazi loving weeb every 5 minutes. Blonde, blue eyed, and minor hits about every one of their fetishes.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, a lot of the obviously historically inspired characters are from WW2, including literal card carrying nazis.

  • Because commies are ignorants lol

But seriously, because people want to hate anything German related from ww1-2.

It is not commies who say that, just libleft wokes

pretty sure it genuinely has nothing to do with political affiliation. IMO most people who call Tanya the "Nazi Loli" or similar have never actually engaged with the show/manga/novels, and it's easy short-hand for them that makes fans of the series look evil and disgusting, the internet's favourite pastime.

  • Because she’s known as Tanya the EVIL, has a uniform that looks Nazi-ish, has blonde hair and blue eyes, and her empire is basically German? I mean yes to a lot of people she’s obviously not a Nazi but it’s still very easy to see why people call her a Nazi.

The japanese name of the show directly translates to young girls war chronicle

The evil is an English only thing

  • It's the outfits, mostly.

  • people are just stupid and want to be enraged about everything.

  • Isnt the Iron Cross still used by Germany to this day even?

  • It starts off in not!WW1 but after the fall of the Republic, or maybe during it, it very clearly moved into a WW2 equivalent. The domestic political system is still Imperial Germany over Nazi Germany though.

  • Bro, the loli na zi thing is just a meme

  • It's just a joke because she shows a lot of sociopathic traits
