My older sister and I would fight over a lot of things, especially in our pre-teen years. However on Saturday mornings, we had an agreement. While both wrapped in sleeping bags, if could push her off the couch with just my feet, we watched the movie I wanted to see. Most times that was Ski Patrol; a movie my cool uncle showed me. If I lost, we watched Troop Beverly Hills most often.
What crappy movies did you watched as a kid that give you fond memories, although they probably wouldn’t make any “top 100” lists?

Ski Patrol was one of those movies we watched on repeat in my house, probably bc it was always on HBO.
Same. But I tried to watch it recently and made it about 20 minutes.
Glad you said that because I was thinking about a rewatch 😂
Sometimes nostalgia takes a little patience… or a couple drinks, lol
I was on an edible and still couldn't do it.
I watched all this stuff with Ronda and Gilbert Godfrey on USA up all night.
Skiploitation and Bikinisploitation movies were my jam, and Up All Night was the king of showing them.
This movie in particular has a great scene, and it's of Paul Feig dancing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwryn2R2d1g
The scene where they put the little guy in a miniature version of his house while he was asleep to trick him into thinking he grew too much made 10-year old me laugh my ass off.
I miss Leslie Jordan
Was there nudity in this flick? Can't remember.
Nope, but Ski School did. Also a shitty movie
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia did a great parody episode of Ski School. Dean Cameron was even in it.
Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of. I grew up in a ski town so some of these were very frequently watched. Gotta say, I love Hot Tub Time Machine.
I grew up in a ski town too, and there are only a few ski movies to cling to. Aspen Extreme is my favorite
Downhill Racer is a favorite of mine.
Now.. Ski School… that’s a movie
Omg!! Troop Beverly Hills? I loved that flick.
A little bit ago, my husband said he hated the Diane years of Cheers. I said, “You mean the actress who brought us Troop Beverly Hills??” Those were fighting words
What! Those were the best years! I mean mostly because of Coach but still.
Cigars, cigarettes, cookies!
I was thinking of rewatching it 2 days ago. My old VHS copy is so worn out from watching it over & over.
Taste death live life!
Bro, that dude had a sick jacket. I want it
I use this line and others from Better Off Dead when skiing. At least my kids appreciate it because I forced them to watch ski movies growing up.
Howard the Duck
First one that came to mind for me. I know it sucks, but there's still a part of me that likes it.
duck. tiddies.
This!! Was the first one that popped in my head too.
Cobra. That Sylvester Stallone movie. I watched that recently again for the first time in forever. Doesn't really 'wow' me like it did back then. I mean it's aight, just not as good as it was in my memory.
A lot of 80’s action flicks feel that way. 48 Hours and Lethal Weapon are just awkward, although Predator and Die Hard are still incredible.
Haven't watched that in decades. Might have to revisit it in the near future.
Oh man, this is my time to shine!
As a little kid I just really loved… Three Men and a Little Lady…
Oofff
That franchise was kinda in the zeitgeist back then… At least that’s the way I lived it, lol
Street Fighter. Terrible movie, terrible adaptation - but Jean Claude Van Damme coked out of his mind and Raul Julia devouring the scenery making a movie his kids could enjoy make it entertaining as hell.
There’s another version come out. I believe the words “disrespect a classic” came out of my mouth.
I still say, “But for me, it was Tuesday”
As a huge fan of both Street Fighter II and Van Damme, I had high hopes for this movie. I was thoroughly disappointed when I saw it in theaters. I haven't rewatched it since.
Street Fighter was the fine line between sucking yet entertaining enough not to turn off.

Spaced Invaders
I rented that movie once when it first released on VHS and never saw it again.
I remember my mom, brother, and I walking out of this movie at the theater.
"Prepare to die, Earth scum! Prepare to die, Earth scum!" I'm gonna make sure they carve that on your tombstone!
Ghost Dad
Leonard Part Six
Santa Clause: The Movie.
https://preview.redd.it/9etv5ryk327g1.jpeg?width=1036&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b6b0756f70e451ec8f10537316783c2ff202bd0
Has a coke ever looked more delicious?
Top tier product placement.
Holy shit, I thought I was the ONLY person who knows of this movie!!!! It’s the only reason I know the color puce.
Blew my mind a few years ago when I realized that Santa is performed by the “other” Lebowski!
Short Circuit.
Like, it's still charming, but the best actor in the movie is the robot, and Fisher Stevens in brown face has aged VERY poorly.
Short Circuit 2 as well.
I might own them both on DVD.. IDK.
Los locos kick your ass...
Thems fighting words!
I loved Ski Patrol as a kid. I watched it a few years ago, and it wasn't great. I must still have had my nostalgia glasses on because I didn't hate it though.
I also used to love the Explorers, but man, that movie falls apart in the last third. I read about the production issues so I understand what happened, but it could have been an even better movie.
My little sister was obsessed with Drop Dead Fred. 😹
Police Academy I-VII
The actual storylines are lame as hell but some of the gags still hit. I watching a highlight reel of all the jokes clipped together with all the other stuff edited out might be sufficient.
I watched Police Academy and the first two sequels fairly often on HBO as a kid. I was finally old enough to talk my quasi-absentee dad to rent the fourth one and I was so excited to watch it…and even at that age I couldn’t help but realize that it wasn’t good. They got worse from there. And adult me probably wouldn’t even like the first or second one now.
But yeah I imagine a highlight film of the best jokes and gags from all 7 films might still land.
Never got to see the animated series. My mom used to try & shame me for liking the movies.
Saved by the Bell Vegas Wedding 💍
Saved by the Bell. I remember the wedding being cheesy af then too, but had to see the end game.
Encino Man
But it gave us this gif https://share.google/7HpEOx5KmLqwCABEg
SHOOSH!!
That movie was a favorite and it didn’t age well. I do still have enough nostalgia to enjoy it, though.
Whenever i rewatch this one, I'm always surprised by how much of a self centered jerk Sean Astin's character is
Channel 9 classic
There was a summer I watched this and Tombstone every single day. One was objectively the better movie.
American Ninja I & II
Michael Dudikof was the unheralded 80s action star. See also Platoon Leader, River of Death, and the short lived TV series Cobra.
Major Payne!! I watched it so many times.
When I was in boot camp, one of the drill instructors would go, "one, tubby tubby... two, tubby tubby," while we were doing push-ups
Rad! I loved BMX so much but that movie is trash
The dance scene is so corny but I still enjoy watching the movie on occasion.
You over rotated.
No shit!
Tremors 3 & 4 😂
The Wizard 1989. God, was it awful all over.
I remember my mom being annoyed at me for liking this movie so much. She said "It's just one big commercial for Nintendo!" She absolutely had a point there.
But I love the Power Glove. It's so bad.
Little Marines.
Drop Dead Fred and Cry Baby are the first two that come to mind.
My sister liked this one. I tolerated it bc Johnny Depp
Then you’re going to love Pink Flamingos!
I loved it but I think about it now and I’m like 🥴🥴🥴
"I'm so happy, all knocked up! I wish I was having triplets!"
I still have a bit of a soft spot for Drop Dead Fred. Some parts are definitely cringe worthy, though.
I actually rewatched Drop Dead Fred this year and I was happy with how it aged!
Team Sanity!
Masters of the Universe.
I still love it dearly. It is not good.
That and beastmaster.
Young me always thought Beastmaster was He-Man.
First time I was disappointed in a movie. I was 4 or 5 and I remember walking out of the Inwood Theater saying that wasn’t a real He-Man movie and how it didn’t make any sense. It also didn’t help that halfway through my showing the projectionist put the reel upside down. So as the bad guys are entering earth everything was flipped. So they had to stop the movie for ten minutes to reset. Which to a small child is an eon.
Last Starfighter was amazing at age 8. Watched it again recently and it was pretty rough.
So did I. Showed it to my 8 year old and he liked it. Also got to see his "being traumatised" face with the reveal of that copy robot mid-change.
“Shut up, Myron!”
Listing ‘Ski Patrol’? Your Xennial card is revoked. That’s a god damn masterpiece.
Agreed, this whole post is BS, that movie was formative and I still quote it today. I’ve been a life long skier and attribute a lot of that joy to ski patrol since it made me want to ski as a kid
https://preview.redd.it/syfrvzvgf17g1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc8f712b6d5a902f7f88d11444b3b85d541b0786
Not that it was supposed to be good even when it came out. Loved it as a kid.
https://i.redd.it/ljhfspao537g1.gif
The shout-out in the TMNT movie was great.
I remember and probably one reason kid me liked Critters 3. Because it was mentioned in my favorite movie at the time. I was obsessed with that TMNT movie.
I am 43 and still obsessed with that TMNT movie.
One of the movies had boobies! Full on boobies.
That helped lol! I think it was Critters 2?
Any movie with a chance for 8008135
but that was Ski SCHOOL (1990) and I would repeatedly mix these up and so miss out on them
They used to show Ski School and Hot Dog: The Movie a lot on Comedy Central and I used to get them mixed up. Same elements.
Stay Tuned and Mom & Dad Save the World. Still fairly enjoyable films to watch though.
Stay Tuned is still wonderful. Especially the b&w noir segment, and some classic Chuck Jones animation.
"Stay Tuned" is a really fun movie. I'd love to see it in the theater again, but I doubt it will ever be shown on the big screen again.
Thanks a lot, Jeffrey Jones.
I wrote Stay Tuned fanfic for a class assignment in like third grade.
Love both of those. I rented them so many times.
The Wrath. Charlie Sheen in a motorcycle helmet. I really loved Nice Girls Don't Explode but that's not a terrible movie just kitchy.
That movie was so weird it took some thinking to figure out how truly terrible it was.
Silver Bullet.
A wheelchair bound Corey Haim takes on the local werewolf vicar with the help of Gary Busey. It's delightfully bonkers.
It's a great film, kinda has to be as a Stephen King story, but the werewolf costume is pretty dreadful. Apparently, lots of the production team felt the same way, but the crap costume got green lit anyway.
https://preview.redd.it/0jd3p9fg627g1.jpeg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad604112dc35e4126b29a0adc93ab4587389026a
On the /r/vhs sub, you'll come to find that it's probably the most liked Stephen King movie there, and I 100% agree. I love the cheesy Stephen King movie adaptations, but I feel like they really gave Silver Bullet a good go at making a damn good movie.
Mac and Me. I tried to watch it recently and died inside a little bit. It's awful, but I loved the shit out of that movie as a kid.
I loved Ski Patrol and it is absolute dog shit. Men at Work was also in heavy rotation around that same time, and while I haven’t seen it in quite a while, I’m going to imagine it doesn’t hold up.
I enjoyed re-watching men at work about 6 months ago
I rewatched Men at Work recently. If you expect it to be cliché late 80s/early 90s in every way, then you won't be disappointed. I still enjoyed it.
It might not fit completely, but the movie Big with Tom Hanks. Loved it as a kid. As an adult it's way too.. I guess gross? Pretty much just the relationship is a big no.
This and friggen Splash. Lol
Does Gremlins 2 count? I saw this in the theater at 8 and it was amazing for little me.
Fuck no Gremlins 2 is a masterpiece of cinema
I love Gremlins 2 more than 1.
They just went for it and I love that.
Whelp, gotta post this clip!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x01l_jMhjVM
Ski Patrol was also on highest rotation in my house on VHS tape. I rented it on Amazon or Apple TV to show my kids for a laugh and they appreciated the “humour” but let’s just say it didn’t get purchased to watch again.
You can add alllllllllll the Police Academy movies to that list, they are a “product of their time”
Hot Dog…The Movie! I watched that one every time I could LOL
Santa Claus the Movie (1985). If you haven’t seen it Santa almost does a 9/11 by flying his reindeer and sleigh into the World Trade Center.
Iron Eagle. Had taped it off the tv and watched it over and over. Saw it as an adult and realized it was kind of bigoted and not that good. Soundtrack is still a banger, though.
Chappy!!!
Speed Zone. I loved exotic cars from a young age, and the cast was pretty star studded. But yeesh it was an awful movie.
I think Armed and Dangerous might be another stinker i used to watch on repeat.
Was Speed Zone the one with the ‘Two Corys’ starring in it and being absolutely horrible? Or was it the one trying to be a successor to ‘Cannonball Run’ but being sheer dreck?
Or were those both the same movie…?
Definitely the latter. Technically it was the third in the Cannonball Run series but... yeah, sheer dreck lol
I loved speed zone… John Candy pumping the heat in the BMW ftw!
Nope that was License to Drive.
I LOVED America Ninja for some reason.
Did you try to make the weird hand gestures? I did
Whether it’s Ski Patrol or Rad, any movie with Ray Walston playing a kindly old man is aces in my book. I will also accept him as a curmudgeonly old man, alla Mr. Hand in Fast Times…
Cyborg with Van Damme. I loved this movie as a kid. My cousin and I watched it a ton!
Many years had passed since I last watched it, so I got my wife and 15 year old son to watch it with me recently... they laughed at how horrible it is. The acting is terrible. The fight scenes are pretty lame even for a JCVD movie. The plot is terrible. The main villain barely says a word the whole movie, but rather just growls and says "arrrgghh" or "aaahhh" the whole time. It is just overall bad. Even I couldn't get back into it. I thought maybe nostalgia would kick in enough that I'd somewhat enjoy it.... nope.
Alligator. For some reason this was my favourite movie when I was 5 years old.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0080354/
Airborne is the quintessential one of these
Bobcat with the double masks and windsurfing down the run. Never reproduced
All the Ernest movies. Great fun as a 6-10 year old, but as an adult with kids, I can relate better to the misery the movies my siblings and I watched put them through.
Hunk(1987)
Lil sis and I knew it was horrible, but we had taped it off of HBO during the free trial month, so we watched it over and over. We had it memorized. The plot was lame, the acting wasn't good, the cinematography was unexceptional, the dialog was blah, the comedy was bland with a couple of deliveries that were corny enough to be worth repeating (hypodermic pen, tchotchkes, candy striper...)
I think we must be the only people who remember this movie, including the people who worked on it
Munchies (1987) My brother and I loved this movie when we were kids. I watched it again recently and it was God awfully terrible. I watched it wondering why we'd ever like it lol.
Teen Witch (1989) I really liked his one growing up, it was frequently rented. Again, watched it recently and it was just cringey now. Not as bad as Munchies, but still a bit plotless and pointless.
Of course, still gotta love the Top That part.
https://preview.redd.it/vajs89cq247g1.jpeg?width=747&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d92d31a772c490e0d29542d6e41d0d58422e2b7b
I don't know why but I really loved this movie as a kid. Early Comedy Central had it on heavy rotation along with old episodes of Benny Hill and their weird early originals
I’m still obsessed with Mac and Me
The Super Mario movie where John Leguizamo was Luigi.
Would Ghostbusters 2 count here? That movie got obliterated by critics of the day who were probably just pissed off that their beloved almost R-rated comedy was hijacked by kids. Because I was one of those kids.
Also Little Monsters and The Wizard were both pretty half-assed movies that we all loved as kids.
Fuck no, GB2 is great. Of course, it's not a good as the original masterpiece, but it's a great movie on it's own.
I love GB2!
GB2 isn't really that bad.
I would argue that GB2 is every bit as good as the first in humor and tone, it just falls apart in the last 20 minutes and leaves everyone with a bad taste.
What? The last 20 minutes are great, when they circle jerk all over Viggo's face!
Aw I love Ghostbusters 2!
Supergirl. I loved the villain’s lair was an abandoned fun house. Also, that supporting cast is still impressive.
Superman III. Vera’s robot transformation was simultaneously horrifying and brilliant. And Richard Pryor!
I want my two dollars
Better Off Dead
This felt like something that evolved from same parody theme as the police academy series. That was one of my personal favorites of the time.
Watching back now, there were a ton of parody movies I missed having a sheltered childhood. Which was ironic given I usually watched HBO a lot.
The poster guy looks like Skyler Gisondo
Reform School Girls. It is one of my favorite late night HBO/Cinemax movies. Pure 80s cheese. Wendy O. Williams was so badsss in it.
I remember ski patrol had George Lopez and Paul Feig in it, and I'm giving it a hard pass.
Dumpster the dog was cute though.
I do love shitty ski movies like that. Ski School, Hot Dog: The Movie and Aspen Extreme are similar. There’s also one with Jim Carrey that was made by a resort as an advertisement. Can’t remember the title but it was actually filmed in Colorado, I want to say Copper Mountain but I might be wrong.
Ski School was superior
Mac and Me
Siege of Firebase Gloria
So many of the movies I hold near and dear to my heart are only there because they were on HBO/Showtime/Cinemax in the 90s. I'd watch the same stupid movie a dozen times. What did we gain? In 2025 I've somehow memorized 30 movies no one I know has ever seen.
RAD
Surf Ninjas, baby. Moto surf!
The Pirate Movie
Hudson Hawk
DC Cab
Maybe it's my exposure to MST3K, I appreciate cheesy movies every now and then.
My sister and I used to watch this movie a bit...
We both liked the dude with the masks
I have a lot of favorites that made "Worst movies ever made" lists on IMDB.
& my poor SING (1989) that never got a DVD release but finally got added to streaming services.
https://preview.redd.it/u5iv7pbja47g1.jpeg?width=854&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4481e32809dab28525a0cb9cd8ef04acb1caea9
Lordy. 3 Ninjas and Sidekicks. I was taking karate classes at that age, but holy hell. Both came out in 1992. IMDB has them respectively at 5.4 and 5.2. Rotten Tomatoes is less kind: 35% and 26%.
I mean, it was no Hot Dog the movie, but it was good for some boobs
Coneheads. Funny and cute definitely still watch it. Objectively terrible.
My sister and I must have watched Problem Child and Problem Child 2 about 50 Times each
Any of the Ernest movies. I tried watching “Ernest in the Army” like a year ago, made it about 20 minutes before I turned it off.
A handful of bad martial arts films. Enter the Ninja, Kill or Be Killed, Kill and Kill Again
Surf ninjas
Wasn't the janitor from Good Morning Miss Bliss in this, or am I making the Keith David/Charles Robinson mistake again?
I must have watched Krull like 30 times and thought it was the greatest, most epic, fantasy story ever told. I watched about half of it a couple years ago and decided that no matter what I did with the next hour of my life it would be better than watching the second half of Krull.
Powder. I loved it as a teenager. I recently watched it again and realized it's a terrible movie. The concept is solid, but the execution is awful. It's really just a collection of random scenes stitched together that abruptly ends. Who knows what the original script was like, cause the end result was just a Frankensteins monster of scenes picked up off the editing floor.
I seem to be the only person ive met who like Fantasia (1940).
LIVE LIFE, TASTE DEATH!
Is this the movie where the guy is like, "kiss my ass, not on this side (pointing to a cheek) and not on this side (points to other cheek), but right in the middle!"
This is mandatory for me to watch for Christmas...
"KRAMER GIT THAT DAWG OUTTA HERE!!!"
Billy Madison
I am filled with shame.
Meatballs. Tried watching it as an adult and it didn’t hit the same.
Red Sonja. Oof...
Ski Patrol is such a good example of this. Around age 10-11, I used to rent it al the time. My parents were like, really, this movie again?
I have a gut feeling that Toys would be a huge letdown if I watched it as an adult.
How I Got Into College. Also in HBO repeat.
Wild Thing
Mac & Me
Short Circuit 2
Condor Man
Time to take some polish off that Ski Patrol shine…
Terrible movie, which makes it great, and as an added bonus, it had Chainsaw from Summer School as the lead
One crazy summer
