The guitar player, Tori Ruffin, lives here in Tulsa so Ive seen him play quite a bit. The dude fucking shreds. He has his own band called Freak Juice and he’s also the lead guitar in Morris Day and the Time.
I haven't seen it so I don't know the details but I really don't like the idea that there was anyone for Akeem in NYC besides Lisa. The original text is very clear on this point.
There wasn’t anyone else. The event happened before Lisa, while the guys were still acclimating to the dating scene. The Powers That Be chose under the influence and non consensual for comic relief for their plot point. They could have done better by Leslie Jones, who is usually fun, but set to 11 for this and too much. The rest of the movie was the typical fare.
I should clarify, Akeem was the victim. I don’t think they dwelled on the flashback too much in the movie. I just feel like it could have been done with a little more sensitivity and maybe addressed as problematic for even a moment. But maybe it was true to the lifestyle back then. 🤷🏽♀️
I'm pretty sure every single time my wife and I hear Lewis Capaldi come on the radio in a store or in the car one of us says "that boy can sing!" Still one of the funniest movies of all time. I feel like so many comedies from the 80s and 90s have aged so poorly compared to this one.
It's weird seeing high def widescreen clips of this on my phone when I remember it square and like 240p resolution on my 10" tv/vcr combo I had in my room back when I was an unsupervised 8 year old totally not watching this masterpiece on repeat
God damn, that boy can sing!
He certainly likes to Party All the Time
He good!
Mmm-hmmm, good n terrible...
I thought it was the trash!
This entire exchange is hilarious... so many (timeless) quotable lines!
Put your hands together! 👏
Still a banger
His royal penis is clean
You must be crazy

He’s on the T-shirt I’m wearing right now
W
Randy Watson Wield Tour tee!
A young man you all know as Joe the Policeman from the “What’s Going Down?” episode of That’s My Momma.
Not to be confused with Artie Lange in the episodes of That's My White Momma...
DON'T MAKE ME BREAK MY FOOT OFF IN YO ASS!
I NEVER get tired of this movie!
good and terrible
This move is incredible. Peak Eddie Murphy. Lost count how many roles he and Arsenio play. So rewatchable.
Fun fact, my middle school band teacher was named Randy Watson.
Randy Hwatson
That boy's good!
Mmm, yeah. Good and terrible.
This was on TV last night. I didnt even look at the screen but I could tell it was the part at the game when the random guy loses it seeing Akeem
The Black Awareness banner makes me laugh so hard tho. Jfc 🤣
Who was that? Oh, just some man I met in the bathroom...
Started the mic drop? No?
In my mind he did.
Somebody tell Eddie he needs to start doing standup again! RIP Charlie!
Good Morning My Neighbors!
Hey, fuck you!
YES! YES! Fuck you too!

Oh man, Freak Juice would’ve been a good name of the band in the movie.
Agreed, Freak Juice is an incredible name lol!
But I think I like that it exists irl. I wish they were huge, that name alone deserves success
Karl denson is the sax player and playing Chicago on NYE this year. Tours quite a bit and fun to see
Oh yeah, almost forgot that. Yeah, Karl Denson and the Tiny Universe. Saw them years ago somewhere but dont remember where. Festival maybe.
Jackson Heights Own!
You might know him from the What’s Goin Down episode of That’s My Mama
I tried to watch Coming 2 America 2 and couldn't get past the first 5 minutes, it was terrible. I'll keep my nostalgic love of the original intact 😎
I watched it, but won’t go back for a second round. It was alright.
My expectations were sooooooo low that it ended up being better than I expected. Still not a good movie and I'll never watch it again
It was so bad. I couldn’t get past the route they chose to create an heir. 😬
Also how it became an action movie at the end was very weird

Wow, even worse than I thought!

No, I got that part. Akeem would never.
I wish they would have called me. I had so many great ideas for a second film.
Sexy? Sexul Chawclit
The stomp is my favorite part of the whole scene.

Looking back, Patrice was definitely hotter than Lisa
He got Gilligan off the island!
They played at my wedding
He good!!
Good and terrible

Never fails to make me laugh! Love that movie!
I loved this movie
I forgot the point and turn at the end!
I don't remember that either. That is a great move lmfao
Never gets old
For some reason, the "...... of pride!" always makes me laugh.
Sexual Chocolate was the name I used for midnight bowling in high school 🤣
Back in the days of pay-per-view my dad had one of those scanner boxes to get all the channels. I watched this movie probably 300 times.
It's weird seeing high def widescreen clips of this on my phone when I remember it square and like 240p resolution on my 10" tv/vcr combo I had in my room back when I was an unsupervised 8 year old totally not watching this masterpiece on repeat

I swore I saw Whitney Houston in the audience back when I watched this the first time. I think they dated briefly. Did anyone else notice her?
I just recently learned that's Karl Denson playing the sax.
Perhaps the best scene ever. I’d love to know the back story on why everyone hates him. So hilarious.
The “What’s Going Down?” episode is to “That’s My Mama” as “The Constant” is to “Lost”
Man. The biggest shock here for me is that this song came out before this movie.
Watching her perform it now, on the YouTube
I watch the barber shop scene a couple of times a year.

My girl wants to party all the time...
Mark Henry sucked and couldn't wrestle
