"The Deep One is a biological nightmare, a cross breed, produced by the mind warping experiments of the Aquatoids. We have encountered several variations of this creature.

After extensive research we conclude that these are manufactured by the invaders. Swelling their ranks when fresh human stock has been captured. Each of these sub-human is armed with an electrical energy discharge powerful enough to kill an aquanaut."

    From the wiki

And to elaborate, by human stock they mean that they're alien organisms grafted onto a human which grow and consume them except for their brain and eyes, becoming their new body which is then controlled via surgical implants.

    Y'know, fun.

Yep, famous for disappearing from the spawnpool very early and softlocking you

    These absolute fuckers.

They're mission-critical researches (both alive and dead), and they can largely stop showing up, because they're terror units associated with the earliest aliens. Can severely delay your progress to both crucial basic armors and to game-completion-path required researches, especially the live capture, and that's made even worse in some versions where it's possible to research the bastards out of order and be unable to complete the tree.

    Looks very Muton-y.

Pretty different role however. Pure terror unit attacking via an arched "spit" attack similar to celatids, however appearing much earlier. (I honestly don't get why the artwork seems to have them carrying a gun, neither their sprite nor the mechanics seem to imply a gun...)

Also very brittle, they get killed rather quickly.
