In the second slide, you can clearly see how the claws go down past the knuckle and between the fingers. Not only that, but you can also see in the middle of her fist what looks to be some kind of handle to grip the prop claws with. The intended design is shown in slides 3 and 4, where the claws are straight all the way to the knuckles. Any idea why they wouldn't fix this with CGI? It seems like an obvious oversight in my opinion.
Cost/benefit analysis. In motion, very, very few people will notice a practical effect like this. By the time someone is going frame-by-frame to notice things like this, the movie has already won your attention.
Because movies aren't meant to be watched by pausing frame by frame looking for mistakes.
I didn't do that obviously. This is the main promotional image of her from the film.
You can tell she’s holding something in the 4th pic as well but not really a big deal
I agree it's not a big deal but even in that picture it seems like they put a little work in to make it less apparent
In the one you circled sure, but in the other claw it's incredibly apparent she's holding something - you can literally see the metal between her fingers
also having lady deathstrike there in the “brawl” and not having x-23 go head to head with her instead of Juggy was a huge swing and miss.
I'm more curious about how they grow with her. Like, where the claws the same size when she was 3 as they will be when she's 35?
In the comics, they weren't coated with adamantium (in a procedure done with a paralytic but no anesthesia, because the guy in charge of her part of the program was a raging jackass who decided to take his anger at Logan killing his father out on Laura) until she was in her mid-teens and had finished her growth spurt.
And then in Krakoa she gets resurrected as an adult so they’re the size they’re supposed to be naturally
And now she has full body Adamantium.
“Whoops! My bad!”
Pretty much!
That's true lol
The type of Adamantium bonded to their skeletons is biologically bonded. They also regenerate the adamantium because of this in the comics
Its always the lack of budget. They didnt have an ass load to fine tune every detail like mainline mcu movies. And its such a small detail, that I got over looked cause even I didnt know wtf you was on about until I looked at the other pictures
It probably wasn’t even overlooked, I’m sure the VFX folks knew and would love to have fixed it, it’s their name on the product, but, as you say, budget and time and priority went elsewhere. It’s a movie that’s an absolute love letter to comics and Marvel fans, new and old, and while it’s not exactly for me they earned enough good will by sticking to their vision that this kind of thing just doesn’t matter.
we all know disney isn't dedicated to the x-men
The live action claws keep moving lower and lower. The last few times they were so low that they would have to be coming out of his palms in order to have the placement that they have
Budget cost Deadpool even references wolverines poor cgi
Because this is small beans OP. I would never in a million years have noticed this if you hadn't pointed it out.
It's not the question being asked, but I'd really like this version of X-23 to become an ACTUAL character in the future MCU. After wolverine is like done for good, she should start getting some solo projects
Out of universe, it’s a non-issue. It’s not something most people will pick up on, even in a promo image.
In-universe, her claws were implanted when she was much younger, it’s possible that what we’re seeing is the base of the implanted claws and we’re seeing them because she’s grown while the claws haven’t.
Idk just a theory.
I like that, that'll be my headcanon lol
Because they use cgi claws they look like trash. It’s better for action scenes to have something tangible for the actors to work with, and these are more stable than glueing claws to their hands.
Why would a man whose shirt says genius at work spend all his time watching a children’s cartoon?
A wizard did it.
The claws haven't looked good since James Gawley made them.
Probably because it doesn’t make any difference.
I'm just over here wishing her claws were longer, I'm not too worried about practical effects
We don't watch movies one frame at a time, that's why.
Why did you frame this as a question?
It’s a screw-up. They happen. Or did you really think there was some legit reason that they decided to do it?
