So I recently got both Sansonetti and the Leg mod for my Colombo and I've really enjoy playing her. The thing I noticed is that everyone knows how good that SAP is on it (if not even broken) that they just except you to shoot SAP. So many times people just gives you full broadside in front of you because they think you have SAP loaded. I'm calling it the Colombo effect and even I have fallen into that trap once or twice.
So what makes the Colombo so broken is honestly just pressing your 2 key and shooting AP. With sansonneti it only takes 9 seconds to switch shells as well so If you start of by shooting SAP people think you will continue doing that. And ohh my looord I have gotten so many juicy Dev strikes with my 16 AP shells on people's broadside. And honestly that is why I love the ship so much. So are people just stupid or have you also fallen for the Colombo effect??

Ye it's more noticeable in thunderer, conquerer and st Vincent 90% of the time people will totally ignore you expecting HE so any angling is pointless and continue to sail around broadside then you hit them with a 30k salvo of AP to the upper belt. Grinding the BC line right now and people just seem to ignore you even though your firing AP into the broadside at 12km. I'm at Dunken so far and it's fucking ridiculous imo. Probably the only person running heavy AP on British BBs lol fyi don't sleep on the t8 hawke dispersion is god like AP is no slouch and HE is good. Just don't sail around broadside. People hate on Dunken apparently but it's fine if you angle.
I need to grind the Conquerer then:) I do have the St.Vinnie grinded but honestly I mostly shoot AP in it. Just start of with HE. The AP there is really good and but I haven't really noticed people giving me broadside in that thing, maybe because I shoot to much AP in it to begin with. It's a good but kinda boring line in my opinion.
I generally try and play it on detection range so every fight is around 12km fire HE if they bow in and AP when they've had enough of burning. Then if there is nothing but cruisers and shit brawler BBs left push right in and start spamming torps and AP lol found it a lot more fun than most BB lines. Ye I always start the game with HE and just sit on detection range from cap to slap the DDs and subs lol. Then sit in awe as no one seems to shoot me ha
Its similar to how I play it aswell and getting torps kill is really fun! Maybe I should give it another run:)
It's what makes Rodney so much fun (and really quite opressive) in Ranked, you can sit on a cap (inside or just outside so anything in it is detected unless it smokes up) covering it's obvious access lanes with your torps on cooldown, throw HE until the reds are annoyed at all the burning and they show broadside to try and get their guns away and that's when you have loaded the AP... and at T7, 16" AP is pretty devastating to any BB/CA broadside, although there are a few CL's that you overpen...

I think it's much like British battleship HE. Yes you can switch and get good shots with ap, but the HE/SAP is so consistent most people don't bother. If you can guarantee you're only going to be shooting a broadside target yeah AP makes sense. But with the possibility of a DD or light cruiser getting spotted for a few seconds id rather not waste the even 9 seconds of switching time. Clapping the shit out of a Jinan with SAP is worth the theoretical more damage I'd miss out on a target with AP.
Yeah! Of course I'm not only shooting AP. The SAP slaps a lot as well. I feel bad for all the light cruisers and tier VIII against it. But I would not say it is a wastevof time when you can dev strikes some other BBS with the AP. Even if a DD or Kinan shows up I still rather clap the hell out of their BB with AP.
It's about being able to predict the SAP purists. Like Cocklombo has one of the biggest broadsides you will expect AP from normal players
Hahaha, so true. Usually you can feel when someone is GE or SAP only. But 16 381mm AP shells is something to be scared off

I've done it to a lot of people but also been there myself many times:) posted after 3 Baby's rushed me behind an island showing full broadside today. Got like 140k dig in 3 salvos lol. AP Colombo is so fun!

How to get that leg mode and, I presume, the captain Sansonetti? I just bought a C.Colombo.
Sansonetti is in a collection, you need resolute and rapid(?) Crates
Leg mod you need 5 T10 ships to unlock the armoury section

Sansonneti you need to have at least 20 containers each for 6 000 coal. I would recommend getting a coal ship first if you don't have any then if you like Colombo go for it. But it's a lot of coal.
I have over 300k of coal, but maybe I should do one more coal ship.
It's your choice. If you want a coal ship then get one, of you really like Colombo I would go for the commander.

The Colombo effect is switching shell types on a not colombo ship and realizing you have to wait for the entire 33 second reload.

when i do that i get 24 other ribbons except penetrations or citadels out of 16 shells idk where the other 8 came from but they're there now
Hmmm. Im too bad of a player to notice if you are colombo or even british bbs to care about angling, i angle when possible

There is no Colombo effect. SAP does more damage on broadside as well. If there is any mental effect, they should angle more sharply. This is just players being bad. They will show broadside no matter you are in Colombo or not.
