As the title suggests would anyone have a recommendation for a car that could fit three child car seats? It will be for a 4 year old, 2 year old, and a newborn.
Ideally we wouldn’t love to upgrade to a 7 seater or anything overly expensive. Just wondering what people’s experiences are with this. Thanks ☺️
If you live near tony kealys give them a shout, they helped my friends figure out which car seat would fit with their two existing ones so they didn't need to change cars (Ford Mondeo)
If you’re on Facebook, check out this page, it’s been a great help to me picking out car seats for kids over the years. Iv never needed info on three across but often see people posing that same question. Not sure if links work, if it doesn’t the page is called “Ireland - rear Facing car seats for toddlers and children. https://www.facebook.com/groups/456353881062172/
Second this fb group. I found it very helpful when trying to get 3 across. You can also do a call with the RSA who will also tell you what options you have based on the current car seats you have
Look into a Hyundai Tuscon maybe? I ended up buying a Renault grand scenic, individual middle seats and with the back two down so much room. Hard to find good sized automatics that aren’t in bits!
Skoda superb is supposed to be the best option that isn't an SUV. To get 3 across you do need to be careful about which carseats you pick though. The cheaper ones like Graco and Joie are very bulky. Axxkid minikids are compact but they're expensive. If you can turn off the airbags in the front you can put a rearfacing seat there but it'll leave an adult to squish into the middle seat so again it depends on what carseats you have.
Your best bet is to call into your local Independent retailer. I am happy to recommend one if you want to say your location. I have worked for some of the brands mentioned in other posts and my advice is there is no car in which you are guaranteed to fit 3 seats. You will need to find the right combination of seats for your needs and car. Independent retailers will have more flexibility in the seats that they can stock and order in for you
Hey! Get onto RSA Check It Fits Sevice. I’ve a 4, 2yo and newborn and managed with my current car (not big!!!) to get 3 across. All rearfacing and not isofix if that makes a diff (isofix too bulky sadly) Had to buy a new seat but cheaper than a whole new car. Maybe we’ll have to upgrade in time to a 7 seater but it’s working well for now. It’s a free service too and very helpful. They often do national callouts to various retailers so you can get your seats checked for safety/correct fit and advice on 3 across.
I had a 5 and 3 year old and a new born the 5 seater Citroën c4 Picasso. There were three full seats in the back that all three car seats at once. Changed to the C5 Aircross, again a 5 seater with three full seats in the back that all fit car seats. Great cars and you get a lot of extras for the price.
Iv been told by friends with kids that the only SUV to fit 3 car seats is the Peugeot 3008. If I were you I’d take 3 car seats down to a dealership and try it out
SUVs would be Peugeot 5008, VW Touran, Seat Alhambra & Ford S-Max. Cars would Skoda Superb. Maybe a Ford Mondeo but you need to be careful with the car seats.

They're not really great, im sure might be the only option for some but really they should be a last resort.
For the OP - They don't offer much side impact protection and the rearfacing limits on the seats are very low. (Rearfacing is 5 times less likely to result in an injury in a crash) The rearfacing add on piece for the multimac is basically the equivalent of an infant carrier style seat with the handle so age 1 to 1.5 max, whereas most carseats offer the option to rearface until 3 or 4.
Would you not just turn the airbag off in the front and put one child there, rear facing?
