I would like to ask for guidance regarding a specific situation.

My flight W42989 on 12/12/2025 from Vienna to Madeira did not reach its intended destination. Due to strong winds, the aircraft landed at a different airport, Porto Santo. After landing, the crew informed us that if we chose to remain in Porto Santo, it would be our own decision, as the aircraft would return to Vienna once it was refueled. I chose to stay in Porto Santo.

According to the information on the Wizz Air website, I am not eligible for a refund because the delay to the final destination was allegedly only 1.5 hours and did not exceed 3 hours. However, Madeira was the final destination of my booking, not Porto Santo, and the flight never arrived in Madeira.

I would like to ask whether you have any experience with similar cases and whether you could advise me on how to proceed.

Thank you in advance for your help.

  • You're not eligible because it was not company fault, it was because of the winds (which is really common in Madeira airport). However, they should have provided you a way to reach your final destination. Try to contact the aviation authority of your country (I assume its Austria) to complain or fill the complaint file of Wizz and, if nothing happens, try with AirHelp or something.

  • You can’t claim a refund on a service you’ve used.

Take the cost of how much it took you to get to Madeira and tell Wizz to pay it. As it’s weather, you’re not entitled to compensation

I meant a refund for a cancelled flight. Wizzair even sent us email to inform us that our flight was cancelled and we can ask for a refund. We already submitted expenses claim ticket.

Why take a refund when you can take a rebooking?
