Just dropped 3.5k on a new gaming pc only for the windows update to seemingly corrupt. I’m stuck for hours in an infinite loop of “Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry-undoing changes.”

All the information I can find online either involves having access to windows in the first place (which obviously I don’t have) or forcing windows recovery mode via three forced shutdowns which doesn’t work (it goes into recovery mode but there’s no blue screen options it just moves itself directly to diagnosing problems then back to something didn’t go as planned), I get no control over anything during that.

It’s honestly soul destroying at this point so any help or advice would be amazing and very much appreciated thanks

  • Hi u/Accomplished-Tie-745, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! If your post is listed as removed it may still be pending moderation, try to include as much of the following information as possible (in text or in a screenshot) to improve the likelihood of approval:

    • Your Windows and device specifications — You can find them by pressing Win + X then clicking on “System”
    • Any messages and error codes encountered — They're actually not gibberish or anything catastrophic. It may even hint the solution!
    • Previous troubleshooting steps — It might prevent you headaches from getting the same solution that didn't work

As a reminder, we would also like to say that if someone manages to solve your issue, DON'T DELETE YOUR POST! Someone else (in the future) might have the same issue as you, and the received support may also help their case. Good luck, and I hope you have a nice day!

  • Fresh install of Windows is the way

  • I had a similar experience with my new MSI gaming laptop. Windows update did not install on the copy of Windows 11 Pro provided by MSI. What I did was create a USB installer of Windows 11 using the Media Creation Tool. I installed Windows on top of from the USB using the keep apps and data option. All the updates took after that.
