She developed severe shortness of breath 5 days ago. We tried antibiotics and anti inflammatories but she declined sharply yesterday again and the vet suspected she had lung cancer.

We said goodbye to our 8yo and same, I thought we had 4 more years with her. Sometimes I pretend she’s on a trip and going to come back.
So sorry. You doing the right thing for her doesn't make it easier for her family, but it doesn't make sense for her to suffer. She is in a good place now...

I’m sorry to have made you upset! Thank you so much for the love. Everyone here honestly is helping with the grief and odd guilt that comes with having to put her down.
It’s not odd guilt. It’s unfamiliar as no own ever teaches this or even mentions it. I had several pets die of natural causes. Then I had Barkley from puppy to death. A death I had to make the decision for. There is nothing felt like it and definitely no road map! I’m sorry for your loss……my heart hurts for you 💕
She was an Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix with white and golden coloured fur. Thank you! She really was such a beautiful dog both in looks and temperament.
