That I work in local government and am held to an IMMENSELY higher standard than these high ranking federal bureaucrats burns me up every single time I think about it.
Accepting a gift worth more than $15 from my own coworkers would result in automatic discipline for me…
That I work in local government and am held to an IMMENSELY higher standard than these high ranking federal bureaucrats burns me up every single time I think about it.
Don't worry, I'm sure the commander in chief or secretary of war won't sell you and your buddies out for a bitcoin or a bottle of whiskey or some barrels of oil...
In seriousness, you have no idea how glad I am that I'm not serving anymore. Be safe my friend.
Hang on are you telling me that you wake up in a cold sweat at the thought of being spotted wearing socks out of line with what you were told to wear... And if one of the sock obsessed higher ups catches you 'out of uniform's in that way then you know a shit storm would only just be starting for you...
And yet Pete hegseth gets to sort some work around so he can bypass security lockouts preventing though with his access from downloading and using commercial social media apps and messaging services... Because he gets to call it fake news when it's reported and weather the storm of public outcry.
Seems oddly imbalanced if I think of it as a fair/unfair split...
I don’t work in local government, but my jobs has me interacting with them often. As a real estate appraiser, I’ve gotten to know several folks that work for various county assessor’s and last summer I saw a field appraiser get a verbal and written warning from municipal government HR for accepting a Walmart bag full of cucumbers that a resident had grown in her garden and had too many, so she gave them to this field appraiser just because that’s what people do sometimes.
A bag of cucumbers worth less than $10 and her career and pension were threatened.
I’ve been in wholesale lending since before the crash and amcs were a thing. if I remember correctly it was investor LOs, agents, and appraisers who were colluding to change the median value of homes in entire territories.
Most appraisers I deal with today have such a high ethical standards that they can disarm borrowers with smiles and jokes then turn around and cure them for 20k without hesitation.
a bag of cucumbers is a bag on cucumbers. It’s not going to move markets let alone add value 🤣
hell Ik people who would follow you to your car with that bag 😂
Oh, AMCs are absolutely still a thing. I relied on them heavily while I was getting my apprenticeship hours back in 2012/203, but fuck AMCs on the whole. They’re super predatory for the clients seeking an appraisal, and the appraisers they dangle a few scraps in front of. At least, that was my experience registering with them and having “mass email” work sent my way.
I know it reads kind of weird but what I’m saying is I was in lending before AMC‘s were a thing. AMC’s became a requirement for conventional lending after the crash
I see what you’re saying. I misunderstood that first sentence. But also, they are not a legal requirement, but in many states they are a standard for a lot of lenders.
Where I work, I have to get HR to sign off if a client gives me a gift worth $5 or more.
I make no decisions involving anything financial, I make no decisions for the client, I perform my job to client specs, nothing else. But if I accept anything more than a bag of chips and a bottle of Coke, and I don’t tell HR, then that is cause for dismissal.
Yet these people are able to trade stocks, crypto, etc. all with knowing how the markets will react to their decisions.
As Carlin said, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”
Hello, fellow local government worker! I've been doing it for 14 years now. I can't imagine taking any form of monetary gift from a citizen. I'd be ripped to shreds.
I worked in a wine shop when I was younger. I was in charge of POs and couldn't accept a bottle from a vendor in case of undue influence. I would've been fired on the spot. But, our Senators and Reps and Secretaries and Supreme Court "Justices" and p(R)esident can rake in tens of millions. If not billions. Retail is funny. 🤨
Because my position is contracted with my state and I have a relative in state government I have to file a form with my QA department regarding birthday gifts/holiday gifts/dinners between us
I watched a jubilee episode last week of one docter vs 20 MAHA supporters. Those people are entirely blind to RFK's conflict of interest but are very quick to accuse docters and other healthcare practitioners of conflict of interest
How his diet and "health" habits haven't killed him is a testament on how evil will persist just to hurt the rest of us. Just like trump's diet of hamberders should have done him in years ago and saved us from his stupidity.
They make most of them from pollock now. When I was younger we'd throw them back or cut them up for bait to catch other fish. Commercially they were only used in pet foods at the time.
you're the one who's uninitiated. the repeated 'back and to the left' is from the film 'JFK' from Oliver Stone. the phrase became a meme in the 90s, popping up all over the place, including Seinfeld. Bill was referencing the movie, knowing the meme status of the phrase and that everyone in the audience would recognize it, just like the Seinfeld writers did.
Fuck man, he's trying. Brain worm, heroin addict, swimming in sewage, eating roadkill. Maybe the Kennedy curse is to fast track your way to an early death and you get to live.
Seriously, whatever demon Joe Kennedy made a deal with sure has a funny sense of humor. His descendants are sacrificed on basically a quinquennial basis, but the drug-addicted, parasite-riddled, walking-STD that is Bobby Jr. not only gets to survive into old age but gets to make health decisions that will kill innocent people completely unrelated to their brood.
I hate how I fell for it. I was so excited to see another Kennedy possibly fighting back against corruption and the govt. but just like the rest it was all a scheme. Now that he’s in a position of power he’s just following their agenda, that really made me lose my hope in U.S politics.
As an atheist, I think this is the strongest argument that God exists. We know that God demands Kennedy lives, God requires them, but His disdain for RFK JR is clear considering that walking brain worm is still among us.
I want to sit here and chortle with the rest. But what the fuck is the point of these things?
At least once a week I see one of these with either an elected official or CEO either outright lying, having none of the data that even a middle schooler could discern would be necessary despite them having literal militias of people to handle their documentation or speeches or whatever else, or just pushing one of the 10 answers in front of them no matter what question is asked.
So what's the fuckin point? There is no recourse, these people are above shame, and it showcases to the entire world how weak the US truly is.
I think the point is to have an official record. Nixon was into his second term before Watergate finally took him down. Clinton was nearly through his second term because the nut heard round the world got to him. It takes time with this stuff and the best time to go after these guys legally will be when the president isn't someone who will just pardon them
That's fair. But you know, just as well as I do, that they will not be moving forward with almost any of this in the future, the president doesn't matter .
Why do private citizens and elected officials feel as though it is okay to obfuscate?
I don't know man, there's a lot of time in the future.
feel as though it is okay
I asked a similar question recently. I liked the answer I got, it made sense. "Okay" is subjective. Something that is right and something you won't get in trouble for could both be seen as "Okay."
While it felt, to me, like a semantic argument that was missing the point, the point that they were making is that moral compasses are subjective.
I see the MAGA political strategy now. I should have seen it sooner. They're just putting the stupidest people they can find in positions of power. People so stupid that they aren't even aware of the crimes and corruption they're committing. Just a bunch of fools cosplaying as politicians. This would make for a great movie if it weren't the reality of, *checks notes, the largest military power on the planet. What a horrible time to be alive.
The only time Trunp won was when he ran against women. I would LOVE an AOC ticket! Desperately. But the country isn't ready.
We saw what happened after a Black American, and the racism that surfaced. And the overcorrection. I am afraid we will also get a sexism resurfacing and fucking stuff up. I don't want a new Trump.
Give her the respect she earned. VP Harris or Harris for short. Donald used her first name bc it makes her sounds foreign and fucked with the pronunciation. Fuck Donald and the mainstream media.
Are you replying that to everyone that called her Kamala or just me because I criticized how she took her campaign from real, direct action against exploitative businesses to a typical Democratic Party milquetoast vibes and "Let's try to appeal to Republicans" corporate centrism?
I voted for her. I would have waited in line for hours to vote for a dead racoon. I think she was a better option than Biden. But part of why she lost was trying to appeal to Republicans that were never going to vote for Republican Lite when there was Facism on the ballot.
Corporate dems lose elections because they offer nothing but platitudes and a less bad government. Democrats and Progressive want a platform to vote FOR.
I fear Newsome will gain the nomination (if elections are held) and screw it up again. Biden deported more vigorously than Trump's first term.
While I personally would definitely like the democratic party to be a lot more progressive I think we consistently underestimate how overwhelmingly powerful the propaganda is, and sadly I don't have a lot of confidence in the average voter to not be even more subject to that propaganda for a less moderate candidate
Normally I’d agree, but after the mess of this last single year, and THREE MORE to go, it may just be the perfect time to run for her. Most people would vote for anything to fix the current shit by then
Gonna be a long time until the Democrats can try another woman for president. Hilary and Kamala failed. America was more willing to vote for an 80 year old felon than a qualified and intelligent woman.
I believe the country wanted Bernie Sanders in 2016 and the DNC fucked us. That being said there is never a reason to not vote nor vote for a Republican. I voted for both Hillary and Harris.
I am social media friends with a fairly lefty US citizen who seems politically aware and active. They posted a rant one day about how Kamala lost because she didn't do her job of motivating them to get out and vote.
My mind nearly exploded. Is your country so broken that you don't understand that it's your country anymore? You're not doing a candidate a favour by voting!
For context, I come from a country with compulsory voting so this is alien to me entirely.
In the United States, it is seen as the job of the politician to motivate people to vote. The reason why people need motivation to vote compared to countries with compulsory voting is because it's on a random Tuesday and people are typically working and have to make an active effort to take time off work to go to their precinct, or rush in and hope there isn't a long line. There is no federal voting holiday, or any voting holiday for that matter, so people are expected to go to work on Election Day and some people cannot afford to miss the time, or do not have the transportation to go to the polls because voting precincts could be on the other side of the county/district.
What good is that belief at this point? I voted for Bernie in the primaries and he lost. Why did he lose? Not enough people voted for him, like lots of other candidates. I didn't go out and canvass for him, I didn't phone bank for him, and I bet 99% of the people voting for him also didn't do that.
Blaming the DNC is just an excuse which helps nobody.
The DNC isn't the government, it's a private organization. I'm saying by blaming and not doing anything about problems yourself is worse than pointless. It harms the entire process of elections and politics.
As an American I would LOVE to see AOC as President. Sadly, the USA is super racist and sexist. I think the Boomers are going to have to die off as a generation (as in they age naturally, like all people) before this country will be able to elect a woman or a person with a significant amount of melanin. Which makes me sad! I want my older family members to have better golden years, not what we have.
It makes me really sad that this country is so bigoted. And our current administration is really only encouraging these people.
She has a decent chance running as VP, but we've got too many racists and sexists and bigots for her to get elected as President. We are, generally speaking, kind of a shitty country in that regard.
We've tried, repeatedly, running someone with a vagina, and it just doesn't work. Not yet. Hillary Clinton got close, and actually won more votes than Trump, but our presidential election system is also rigged by way of the "electoral college" and Trump's campaign played that game better than Clinton's.
But more importantly, AOC should move up to the Senate. Senators, frankly, are a greater power than the Executive, and she could be a powerhouse there. She's extremely popular in her district, and it wouldn't take much to expand that to "state". Her talents would be wasted on the Presidency, frankly.
The caveat here, of course, is "assuming our nation and government survives the current administration."
She is the perfect choice, which means she can’t possibly win. Apart from being in touch with reality and wanting to help everyone, she is a sadly a woman. And in this country some men and even woman would rather go through literal hell and suffer then have a woman as president.
Kamala was not a good choice, she would have been a perfectly average president but our own party decided to in fight instead of rally behind her. They picked apart everything she said and hated that she didn’t agree with everyone’s agenda, while her opponent literally gave no answers to any questions and just lobbed insults at everyone. AOC is left leaning by American standards and scares both Dems and GOP, they fear her actually wanting to change things.
Sadly expect for a few older Dems, anyone past a certain age is almost a Dem in name only, because in reality they agree more with the GOP when it comes how to handle money and congresses own ability to enrich themselves.
At the end of the day, once you get rich all you think about is how to either keep what you have or how to get more. And we have Dem fossils in Congress who keep running simply to enrich themselves more.
AOC wants policies to change which is a dangerous thing to say out loud. Money makes the world go round and anyone who tries to cut access to the coffers is any enemy to them.
Legally, yes. She was born in the United States and she's >35-years-old.
Given the current political climate, no. She has too much stacked against her. She'd make a good VP candidate. That'd line her up for a run in one or two election cycles given the administration is well received.
I don’t think she’s actually that well-liked among her peers in government, unfortunately. Which is the same thing that sunk Bernie Sanders - the democratic party has superdelegates in the nomination process who wanted Hillary Clinton over him.
Thinking that the average American will have learned their lesson after Trump 2: Electric Boogaloo is severely underestimating how stupid the average American is.
For a LOOOOONG overdue change, I hope the next President actually ENFORCES EXISTING LAWS against folks like Clarence Thomas, Alito, and ALL of these MAGA politicians. It's infuriating that Democratic Presidents encourage this horrific nonsense in an effort to appear nonpartisan by appointing Republicans like Garland and Comey to key positions to DO NOTHING. Let's not make that gross mistake again. Please gods....
Assuming we take back Congress in 2027, we need to continue No Kings. Dems have to feel constant pressure to go after the law breakers in this Admin, Congress, AND the Judiciary. There’s some Justices need impeaching!
Wasn’t RFK basically grifting with his attacks on vaccines and legal battles? I remember hearing about him being heavily involved with groups that sue vax manufacturers for “injuries” and that he would get a cut as a finders fee. That doesn’t sound divested and no conflict of interest to me.
Before and during his early tenure as HHS Secretary, Kennedy had an arrangement with the personal injury law firm Wisner Baum to receive 10% of fees from hundreds of vaccine-related lawsuits, including those against Merck, the maker of the HPV vaccine Gardasil. He had earned about $2.5 million from this work since 2022.
Apparently since then, after pressure from Democratic lawmakers including Liz Warren (go Liz!) he apparently agreed to divest and hand his son his financial stakes, which I don’t know if there’s anyone monitoring that and holding him to it, and even if so, having your son be your financial proxy is just as rotten
Obligatory reminder that this is just the conflict of interest that we know about 🥲 I’m not a betting man but if I had to bet on it, I’d say there’s plenty more that just haven’t been surfaced
Kennedy has been involved in medical conspiracies surrounding drugs and contamination for decades. I suspect he has some form of contamination OCD along his less than stellar capacity for critical reasoning or assessing the nature of the world around him
The chances of that + wealth + history of lawsuit profiteering… for a HHS secretary… yeah that’s one serious conflict
Completely agree. I’m sure if he was subject to some kind of probe into his finances and business affiliations it would turn up TONS of conflicts of interest. He’s definitely not someone who deserves the benefit of the doubt.
I don't even for a single second believe he doesn't own stocks in everything trump and the cronies know will soar or sell or bet against stocks they intend to tank, like tylenol.
To be fair I understand his confusion. For the Trump admin crypto isn’t so much an investment as much as it is an avenue for bribes and money laundering.
They’re asked a question, they lie blatantly, their lie is pointed out, they say “ah yeah, that”, and then everyone moves on as if they didn’t lie (possibly under oath). What is the point of this lmao.
I mean at least it's not a memecoin. I think a whole lot of people have some BTC, it's like one of the only coins that is relatively secure. I wouldn't fault most people for having some BTC or ETH. It's not really the same thing as owning a shitcoin where you are pretty much guaranteed to be either rug pulled or scam your audience.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t a conflict of interest and opportunity to manipulate. RFK could, idk, come up with some random policy that incentivizes hospitals to allow crypto payment plans or something. Boom, crypto pumped! Then when you catch wind that you can’t actually do it or a federal judge is going to get in your way (because lord knows the Supreme Court isn’t going to be the one to stop them), sell before you give your newly purchased paramount CNN news team the go ahead to break the news
There is a MASSIVE difference in you or I, with no policy making role, with no govt leadership role, versus actual representative dictatorship cronies owning crypto.
Crypto is the least of the issue. He is setting things into motion within the FDA that will allow for his firm to sue the government once he leaves office. This upcoming black box warning on COVID vaccines he is pushing will be used as evidence that the government is admitting risk. Then his firm will take cases of anyone who feels they were injured and sue. There are other drugs being set up the same way. This is going to be a massive legal grift to his benefit.
That is what all the maggots are doing in office, setting it up so they benefit any way they can find.
The orange 🤡has basically sold the WH positions of power to these psychopaths… so they can make more $$, that is why they defend him!
He should be prosecuted as an enemy of this country! Him and all his maggots!! Their assets seized!
Did RFK get BTC for doing something? How is it made of a dictator? How does anything he has a say in have to do with BTC? I’m so confused by the title and argument.
Yeah, he’s corrupt, an idiot, a sack of shit, definitely actually getting paid under the table somewhere. But what does him having BTC have to do with anything here? Title makes it sound like he was getting Trump or Melania coins, as if that’s worth shit.
(Not a BTC guy thought I bought it early on. Sold it all, haven’t bought more in years, just confused).
Because bitcoin is anonymous. If a company is paying him in bitcoin there's no way to know unless one of them tells you, which is obviously never going to happen
What’s wrong with BTC? There are plenty of things to criticize this dipshit with and you’re choosing a decentralized autonomous payment system? Do you even understand how it works or what it accomplishes?
Preface: I am not a fan of this administration. However I hope people understand that owning Bitcoin is not equal to owning say Trump Coin or Melania Coin or Doge Coin. I get people think the entire crypto market is a scam, but what isn't a scam today? Polimarket wants to comidify opinions via betting on literally everthing. I await my down votes.
Bitcoin is essentially the same as owning gold or Canadian dollars or Australian dollars, how is it a conflict of interest and how is it “electronic fake currency”? USD is electronic too?
DO NOT CELEBRATE VIOLENCE IN THIS SUBREDDIT OR WE WILL BAN YOU.
That is all, tysm

He even said during his nomination committee meeting that he would not divest of his legal practices.

A+ reference. I'll never forget the first time I saw his stand-up.
For the uninitiated: Bill Hicks, I actually just found the (below) link to it, not on YouTube anymore. Highly recommended.

Rfk surviving is part of the Kennedy curse

As an Australian looking in from the outside, is it possible for AOC to run for president over there? She seems like a good egg
No, America is too sexist and racist.
Most americans voted for trump over Kamala Harris, or refused to vote at all despite having Project 2025 shoved in their faces
The only time Trunp won was when he ran against women. I would LOVE an AOC ticket! Desperately. But the country isn't ready. We saw what happened after a Black American, and the racism that surfaced.
I'm replying that to most people.
While I personally would definitely like the democratic party to be a lot more progressive I think we consistently underestimate how overwhelmingly powerful the propaganda is, and sadly I don't have a lot of confidence in the average voter to not be even more subject to that propaganda for a less moderate candidate
But Kamala Harris had an annoying laugh and took a nap. Can you imagine the disaster she would have been?!
That laugh thing was just them communicating their sexism. They might as well have called her "shrill".
Just like how AOC is the dumbest motherfucker in Congress even though she graduated magna cum laude from Harvard law school.
A "low IQ" individual 🤔
Thats what he calls everyone who's black
But did you see that video of her dancing on a rooftop? Did you?
She might have a shot if she becomes a Senator or Governor then Vice President first.
Agreed and ditto.
We aren’t allowed to blame the DNC for anything? Criticizing our government is the most American thing you can do.
The DNC isn't the government, it's a private organization. I'm saying by blaming and not doing anything about problems yourself is worse than pointless. It harms the entire process of elections and politics.
The people were the ones that didn't pick Sanders, he lost the primary by 3 Million votes.
The country largely still thinks "socialism" is the same as Stalinist communism so no, Bernie would absolutely not have won.
Do most Americans support socialist policies if you explain them without labeling them? Yes.
Do most Americans support said polities once they find out they are "socialist"? No.
edit: If the DNC had data that Bernie would have won, they would have run him. To believe otherwise makes absolutely no sense.
42% of young voters voted in 2024 compared to a turnout of about 53% in 2020.
Until that percentage increases dramatically things will not change.
My parents think shes basically the antichrist, and when asked why, it's always the "have you seen the garbage disposal video??"
So short answer, no, too many people here don't take life seriously enough.
Now? No.
If we democrats can manage to not infight for a few terms and can get some momentum maybe in 16 years
I don’t think she’s actually that well-liked among her peers in government, unfortunately. Which is the same thing that sunk Bernie Sanders - the democratic party has superdelegates in the nomination process who wanted Hillary Clinton over him.
Superdelegates are anti-democratic but if you look at primary vote totals with no delegates whatsoever Clinton still won.
I'm a Bernie bro and unfortunately Dems are just too close to whatever goes for center these days to feel the Bern.
Nancy Pelosi stood in the way of her getting a chairmanship in her own caucus.
Anything is possible, but I personally believe that AOC, Bernie Sanders, and a few others serve justice far better in the Congress.
That is especially as agents to get Congress to actually do its job.
She might be approached for senate and, oddly enough, fill the role of RFK Jr’s uncle as “The Liberal Lion”
Thinking that the average American will have learned their lesson after Trump 2: Electric Boogaloo is severely underestimating how stupid the average American is.

Make it a federal law that is actually enforced.
There’s some Justices need impeaching!
oh, you want Ponzi Schemes listed too
Wasn’t RFK basically grifting with his attacks on vaccines and legal battles?
Thanks for the details, I couldn’t remember all of this.
Agreed having his son manage it is just as rotten. Wonder where he learned that move from /s
Sorry, am I understanding the title correctly? Are we now claiming that Trump invented Bitcoin?
This chode would absolutely use that term when in reality he is invested in other crypto.
Greed has overcome ethics in a lot of our politicians. Get rid of them.
Since when bitcoin is "made of a dictator"?
And which dictator?
Are you mixing bitcoin with the crypto coin trumpfart released?
Bitcoin isn't trump's doing
"Made of a dictator" is a grammatical error because the OP is either a bot or not a native English speaker.
The phrasing can also be "Made of (little pieces of) a dictator" which should make it more obvious that the sentence is weird.
“It’s not a lie if you believe it.” —George Costanza
Oh crypto? I’m so glad you asked me that, that is the least corrupt of my shady endeavors.
“Oh, you’re suffering? Well you should’ve cheated and destroyed ppl too”
Did RFK get BTC for doing something? How is it made of a dictator? How does anything he has a say in have to do with BTC? I’m so confused by the title and argument.
Yeah, he’s corrupt, an idiot, a sack of shit, definitely actually getting paid under the table somewhere. But what does him having BTC have to do with anything here? Title makes it sound like he was getting Trump or Melania coins, as if that’s worth shit.
(Not a BTC guy thought I bought it early on. Sold it all, haven’t bought more in years, just confused).
Not sure why you are getting downvoted. I am confused too, and you have valid questions.
Because bitcoin is anonymous. If a company is paying him in bitcoin there's no way to know unless one of them tells you, which is obviously never going to happen
Did he say companies are paying him in bitcoin? You can buy it the same way people buy stocks.
Okay, thank you, I wasn't sure of the context. Still don't really know much, but that helps.
Because crypto is untraceable and easy to manipulate. Easy to get bought off and Trump has already manipulated the crypto market
It's very traceable..
I wouldn't be surprised if all of Trump's " people" are invested heavily in crypto
What’s wrong with BTC? There are plenty of things to criticize this dipshit with and you’re choosing a decentralized autonomous payment system? Do you even understand how it works or what it accomplishes?
Crypto is a scam.
You don’t see how being able to pay a government official anonymously could be a problem?
It’s all on a public blockchain but go off on shit you don’t know. All transactions made on the bitcoin network are traceable.
only stupid people do crypto , it is always crashing , didnt trumps crypto recently crash or lose most of its value
At least RFK has an excuse to worm his way out of being a traitor.
RFK jr. is a dirtbag.
