My mother gave me a painting? She inherit from her father who inherited it from his aunt who lived in New Mexico and died in 1979. She was likely the original owner.
I don’t think it’s a print. It’s signed by Gene Boyce Guest and dated ‘64
I can’t find much online about the artist. I can find postcards of this painting and an art gallery website where one JUST like this apparently sold at some point. This is NOT the same physical painting as I have.
Mine has several very small differences beyond difference in shades of colors (which if that were all I’d attribute to conditions and exposure.
My goal is to find out more about this specific piece and also the artist.
I plan on hanging it and enjoying it. I don’t know much about art but I like looking at this.
I would like to know if it has a history.
Apparently, "thousands" of reproductions of this painting were made (by the artist). I think if your piece were an original, it would have a signature without the copyright symbol. But try to take a really good look at it under strong magnification. Here's a newspaper article (Santa Fe New Mexican, 4/25/1965) about the reproductions, and a link to an auction sale that included the brochure.

This is what I’m looking for. Thank you. When I get home the beginning of next week I’ll look with a nice lighted magnifying glass I have.
I’m guessing it’s just a reproduction.
The Rainbow Man is still there on Palace Avenue
Go to Santa Fe on most days of the week, most times of year, and the Palace of the Governors looks exactly like this, with Native American artists lined up with artwork on blankets. Such a cool place.

the close up of the signature looks like a print and it's stapled into an inexpensive frame. what makes you think it's a painting?
it is a different image than the postcards i found. it's pretty obvious in the shadows of the beams between the posts and the pots in the lower right
Thanks. It could very well be a print or reproduction. I know nothing of this sort of thing.
Agreed, this is definitely a print.
