Absolutely do not use that toilet under any circumstances. Porcelain is incredibly sharp and if that happens to break while you're sitting on it, good chances you slice your femoral artery and will bleed out quickly. I'm serious!
It sure is sharp! My mother once was carrying dinner to my siblings on two porcelain plates while I was at work. She tripped while walking, and fell against the wall. One of the plates got wedged against the wall during her fall, broke and sliced her nose 95% of the way off.
I had to rush from work to the hospital. The pain of hearing her get stitches still haunts me. It looked like a murder scene in our house.
There was also some kid in the news who ate a live slug once and ended up dying from it not long after. Think it might've happened in Australia or something

My adhd brain got the best of me and I turned to do something and our very large German shepherd was plowing through the house looking for me. Once I heard him, we made eye contact as the lid caught onto his body and flipped off the toilet and shattered all over the floor. Well my foot was also right where it landed, I had shoes and thick jeans on but still managed to get cuts all up my ankle.
I bet the soft lid is the culprit here. Sister has a soft close lid and muscle memory took over, it happens to me when I use a strange toilet. I wake my wife up slamming the toilet lid in almost every hotel we stay in.
Screw that, no toilet should break because you shut the lid too hard. Thank your sister for finishing the weak toilet off when no one was sitting on it and buy something that won’t fall apart after being tapped by some plastic.
A crack doesn’t need to be visible to be a crack, it can be internal, it can be structural… It’s just obvious that a plastic lid won’t just break ceramic, unless you are the Hulk. If you live alone long enough, you learn that things break and it’s not anybody’s fault.

That's weird. Personally I feel like toilets should be designed in such a way that slamming a plastic lid on them shouldn't cause them to break. I doubt your sister is truly to blame here. I don't think she was expecting this result. Lesson learned. Hopefully no one's too upset with her
You could always think of it as that part being a weak spot that would have ended up breaking at some other time. At least this is a painless way to find out it needs to be replaced. Happy condolences and such.

Take a mold of the break and make something interesting and glue into position. Could be fun if you have kids or are creative.
Make a clear mold with epoxy and put a couple fish swimming by in it. Or something like that.
