• That stone was forming long before you planned on going.

Yeah, it just sucks that the pain decided to start during my vacation. Iol

Worst pain of my life as it was passing through my ureters. Stayed at my bladder for a couple of weeks, then one day, I just peed it out. It was rather small, but gadamn was it painful.

Is the pain really like 11-12 out of 10?

The level is bad, but the problem is that it's relentless. It feels like it will never end.

It got a little easier for me after having a few, because I can mentally convince myself it's temporary. That first time felt like it was going to be the rest of my life.

    Yeah…sorry. Drink more water regularly.

    Will do! Thank you!

Unfortunately not always helpful advice. I drink 3 liters daily, I just pump out rocks.

Can I borrow you for a bit. I need a cheap source of gravel for a footpath

Do you have a really sugary diet?

Or maybe don't. Third world country after all

That’s such bad timing, especially when you probably planned this trip for rest and adventure.

Ouch, that actually sucks.. So sorry to hear you’re stuck in the ER with this pain.

I got food poisoning in Boracay. I have memories of the local hospital seeing a mouse running by the ceiling lights and the doctor taking me back to my hotel in a Tuk Tuk holding the IV bag up and visiting me while I was in the hotel that week. Not fun but very good medical treatment they got me back to the beach

Did the doc address why you might have gotten them?

  • 2 weeks in???? How long of a vacation do you get? Kidney stone sucks but damn I want a vacation like that! Y'all hiring? Lol

I'll be here for 8 weeks lol.

That's not a vacation thats a temporary move.

1st world countries get more than two weeks a year. We need to start demanding better labor rights here

We do not normally get to go for more than 2 weeks at a time, tho. I have 28 days of annual leave but they will absolutely not let me take them all at once outside of special circumstances.

I get 30 paid and we HAVE to take 2 weeks in one go once per year.

I get 30 paid vacay days in the US. It’s quite nice.

I feel like everyone but the US gets a lot of time off.

We get the lowest wages, the highest prices, no healthcare, no education.

But hey, at least we have the biggest war ships and military bases to keep the rich. getting richer.

    GOD BLESS THE USA!!!

Lol, we have some of the world's highest wages. We have education, and we have Healthcare. Sounds like you need a new job. I normally take 1 to 2 months off, depending on how I feel.

Hahahahaha. I normally don't talk in 4chan speak but I'll have to tell you this. Cope harder.

Yeah, I get 35 days of paid vacation a year lol

    Plus holidays?

I work shifts, if a holiday falls on a workday I can decide if I stay home with base pay or work for 95% extra or even 150% on the high Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter.

    UNIONS

I work for a union. I get 8 paid weeks off a year.

    *Laughs in Western Europe*

  • At least you won't bankrupt treating it in usa.

I spent over a $100 CAD at the hospital and meds for 30 days cost around $150.

That’s rough. When I had my first kidney stone here in Pennsylvania it costed me $0 for the hospital trip and $5 for the meds. Now I’ll get downvoted because this doesn’t follow the “America bad” Reddit trope lol.

Meds for cheap isn't unusual but you need to expand upon your $0 hospital visit.

My employer provided health insurance is very nice. I had to get glasses recently for the first time ever. They gave me $500 for the frames alone and I paid $0 for the appointment, eye test, and the prescription lenses being made. I pay $220 a month for my health, dental, and vision. Also I am not a big shot or some successful person with a high end job. I make $20/hr lol.

Yeah I work in insurance, that's unusually generous and I would hold on to that job for as long as you can.

I am. Here’s the secret reveal. I work a unionized services job for a pretty large hospital network in my state. As long as I keep myself in network everything is usually $20 or less. For someone who doesn’t have a degree or skill this job is a blessing. I don’t work myself to death, I have great benefits, a retirement, and the pay is okay.

Good that you have decent insurance, but healthcare costs in America are bad

I know, I’m aware it’s the #1 reason for bankruptcy.

Explain your special circumstances though cause this isn’t normal

I responded to another and explained my situation, which isn’t special at all. My situation is reality for the thousands I work with.

In the US you'd be looking at several thousand dollars for the hospital stay, easy.

More if you were there for more than a day.

Damn, I'll just endure the pain if I ever visit the US lol

I had an hour ambulance ride, two ER visits, and knee surgery for $115 in the US.

They "charged" $34,000 for it all, but my part was only $115.

  • At least you know the nurses will be spectacular.

  • Just passed 3 last month. I was in the ER too, and on the floor from writhing in pain lol. Good luck 🫡

Glad you made it through! That pain is no joke. Few years ago, I had to pull over and call 911 because of that pain. Thank you!

  • Drink a bunch of red horse and piss it out. ☄️

I had lots of Red Horse on my first day, and it might have worsened it lol.

    Oh definitely!

  • I feel like a 2 week vacation is longer than most people get. Also, why is your title phrased like you intended to get a kidney stone in the Philippines at some point, just not this early?

Got lucky that my longer vacation was approved. Not intended but terrible timing since there's so much food here that I was excited to eat lol.

I've been to the Philippines twice for just about 3 weeks both times. It's never enough but 2 would really stink because you're probably gonna waste 4-6 days traveling before you even reach your destination, unless you're going right to Manila. Plus the cost of a ticket, $1500-2000 for me, gotta make it worth your while. 8 weeks would be amazing.

  • My condolences. Kidney stones are the worst pain I've ever experienced and I would only wish them on my worst enemies.

  • Depending on how big the stone is , I was fine in 5ish days I believe both times.

i left hospital the minute i passed it but mine was very small. was in triage and the nurse gave me the muscle relaxant infront of everyone and explained it was a suppository. a bit off putting walking into the toilets and 10+ people know youre going in there to put a finger in your arse.

Nah I asked the doctor for the most powerful painkillers they had which were like 2&3 injections in a row and then I felt nothing , no suppositories thankfully.

    Hopefully not big 🙏

Did they tell you you are gonna pee it out or the need to break it down first?

I haven't seen a specialist yet. I'll just wait until I get back home. They gave me a pill that will help to dissolve or break it down. So far, no pain at all for the past 2 days. 🤞

  • Could be worse, could have happened in the US and you got billed tens of thousands of dollars

  • Just hope they don't harvest anything else 😋

  • Goddamn fr? That Stone is such a bellend to wait and ruin your vacation trip here in my country. I hope the Hospital properly accommodated you bro! Im sorry for the unfortunate circumstances lmao

  • See, you did it all wrong. You are supposed to get the kidney stone first, then when they find cancer while looking for the stone you get a vacation (something about post-op recovery) after!

  • Hope it passes and you’re resuming your vacay soon!

  • How fucking long are your vacations? lmao The title makes it sound like it was just beginning.

  • We are in crunch time for our big Nye party and I'm in the hospital about to get my gallbladder removed because it decided to get infected. So I feel you.

  • As a lifelong stone sufferer I feel for you. They are the worst. One time I passed one I didn’t know I had, till it just kinda popped out 😂. It feels so weird to pass them but so much better afterwards

I passed one a few years ago and I couldn't agree more. It was the best feeling after it came out 🤣

  • Happy for you bro! How long did it take for you to pass the stone?

I was at the hospital for five days. They had to use the laser, I didn't pass it on my own. Now I have a stent, with a control examination in 7 days.

  • I’ve had one kidney stone and one gunshot wound…guess which one I would rather do again

Oh man, I hope you never have to repeat either one!

  • People say it hurts but how bad it hurts? If you mind telling me also what advice do you have from the doctors to avoid it ?

I hope you'll get on your feet very soon ✨

Honestly, it was the worst paint I've felt. There's a sharp, cramping pain coming in waves and I couldn't walk, sit or lie down comfortably. I haven't seen a Urologist yet but the ER doctor told me to stay hydrated and avoid too much salty/processed food.

    I appreciate it! 🫡

Aight Im going to drink WAY more water Thx. For the feedback.

  • I feel your pain. About two months ago I had four start moving at once and all get stuck. The largest was 12mm, and there was a 9mm rock behind it. Fortunately or unfortunately I've been getting them for years, so it wasn't my first rodeo.

So I had them blasted (shockwave lithotripsy). I highly recommend it compared to invasive methods, but in my case there were too many large stones to completely obliterate them this time. The doc hit me 3000 times and broke them up into smaller pieces, which then also got stuck. He said the bits were lined up in the ureter and locked together (the technical name is steinstrasse, which is German for "stone street"), so I would have to go back in January to have them plucked out manually.

But then they started moving on their own. In the past month I have turned into walking kidney stone dispenser. Earlier today I passed stones 24 and 25. The largest one I've passed in the past month was about 5mm. I can feel another one getting ready to come on through.

    My tips:

Drink fluids. Take the tamsulosin. Ibuprofen works better than you might expect for calming the spasms that cause the pain. For me it works better than oxy.

The hospital will want to give you morphine. Tell them you want toradol instead. It's much, much better for kidney pain, but for some reason ER staff never know that.

You will think I'm making this up, but there is research demonstrating that riding roller coasters makes them pass easier, as long as it's just up and down and doesn't turn you upside down. If you can't get to a roller coaster, I find that driving my truck around helps. Motion and jostling helps.

Don't be afraid of actually passing it. That's the easy part. Even after passing 25 stones in a month, they cause little pain by the time they make their final exit.

I have a nine hour drive tomorrow, so I'm hoping the vibrations from the truck will rattle loose whatever is left. I wouldn't be surprised if I pop out another one in a truck stop along the way.

  • Just be glad we have waaaaasay better treatments for it than we did in 19th century.

I can't imagine how they are treating it back then lol

  • Somebody doesn't care about it's health and blames a country...

Where in my title did I blame the country? It's just a statement of the unfortunate thing that happened during my stay here.

  • There is a joke to be made here about Filipinos only ever eating things too sweet or too salty, no in between 🤣😅

(Source: I'm a Filipino living in Manila)

  • Should have left the kidney at home

  • It's good that you're taking care of yourself and not ignoring the pain. I wish you a speedy recovery, get well soon. 🍀🍀🍀

  • Tell your kidney not to get high next time

  • How's the hospital there?

It was quick! There was no wait time and staff were friendly and checking on me all the time

  • Two weeks is already a pretty extravagant vacation. The universe is telling you to feel lucky for what you have.

  • Two week vacation overseas? I'd count your blessings
