Just now I came from a chat on webnovel discord. Where a guy came to ask questions about contract application time and why it takes more then a week. I don't remember the full conversation, as he was banned rather quickly.
But it struck me as off, because people there immediately started harassing the guy, and even the mods there jumped in to insult him. I was thinking of asking help from that discord regarding my book, about how to improve the writing and so on. And mainly about advises from experienced author, but from the way they treated that guy. I don't think I'd be asking anything there. It's very sad, because that sub was the official sub of webnovel.
When authors there treat others harshly. They say they do it because the person asking the question was naive, not hardworking, wanted easy money, thought writing was easy, and whatnot. Which, sometimes, is or maybe in most cases true. I don't know, I stay away from there. But sometimes I have seen they doing this to somebody who is genuinely asking a question, it feels bad to see. Then we get mods, I don't know about all of them. But some just are so hateful. Not because of what they do or say(I don't know about that.) But when some bitchass comes and says I have a connection with mods and gets kicked out or banned someone, without any reason.
oh yeah, don't forget if you say something about anyone in the Discord, then you are jealous of them. keep in mind.
Their rules are pretty strict and I got overwhelmed once too since they might come out as rude because well, I asked questions that felt like a common sense or was already stated clearly in the platform. But I started enjoying it there once I got away with that phase. Anyway, there’s no shortage of information in webnovel and everything I’ve learned, I did by reading things
Even when you are reading things and doing things proper they still treat people harshly
Just ask here we will gladly help
That’s why I recommend only checking the “how to webnovel” channel. If you want help, ask on this subreddit or join the "Webnovel writers and readers" facebook group. It’s not official, but there are a lot of authors, AE's and readers there... you just need to dodge the scammers.
Also, as for why he was banned quickly, i wouldn't know, but since mods were involved in this harassment, I think it's self explainatory
Mods have been known to be okay with insulting and carrying on with other users in mistreatment of others. I have proof on that as well
That's because the contracted general chat is a close-knit community, it is off-putting to other authors. My opinion: stay away from it, seek advice on Reddit.
Truthfully it needs to be dismantled at this point if they are gonna play special treatment to only some people and not others
I've literally just been in there, and two guys teaming up on one, he says what they said hurt him, and he got muted for two weeks.
on a side note, how to add 'author' or 'contracted author' underneath the name lolol
I couldn't agree more, they should also do an internal investigation of each individual mod. Especially that one grandvoid dude, he's genuinely insane and I've posted a whole comment about it.
Well, I think more context is needed.
I think too, but I was mainly disgusted by the languages and texts they were sending to the guy. And the unprofessional way of talking, especially from the mods. Do any context justifies such behaviors from an official discord? Not gonna lie I wouldn't know, since I'm pretty new to these discord thing. But I use reddit alot so I thought I'd share this incident.
Lol, looks like you found the mods...
Need more content other than your words. Any screenshot?
Is it that hard to take a screenshot? Have you never heard of he said, she said?
Why so defensive? He was stating an opinion. He's not asking for you to believe him. The Discord is very clicky, the same 20 people just stay in there chatting like it's the only thing they have in life. Anyone else who joins is treated like an outsider for weeks.
Nah, after dropping so many bombs, an SS is pretty basic. I have been mansplained before, and there are indeed jerks over there, but OP gave a blanket statement and he/she should be prepared to defend in case someone asks for proof/context.
Give opinion, be ready to receive one too.
Bro im in the discord and its pretty chill. Idk what u coming across abt
Is that so? Thanks for letting me know. I wonder if the banned person was being civil during the convo, but what do I know?
Don't argue here man. I was literally labeled as attention seeking guy for asking suggestions after getting a rejection by 8-9 guys. I mean there are definitely good supporting guys here but most are just guys who want to flaunt their superiority and Oversmartness
Well, oftentimes I reflect myself when something like that happens. You should try one.
you do that because you are at fault. but not everyone is like you. now reflect, and you will know I am speaking the truth
Alright, I retract my word. Now I know what the one I replied meant, thanks for letting me know. There, I reflect my mistake.
the fact that you're downvoted because you asked for context is just---
Well, if the context doesn't fit the agenda of certain members in this group then it is no wonder.
I mean, I get that there'll be downvotes. What baffles me is that they seem to be the majority
I'd say loud minority. I believe the majority just enjoy reading and chill.
I mean, mod should probably never be acting in an unprofessional manner regardless of the context. But making pennies on the dollar will do that to people.
No, we have to see whether the term 'unprofessional' applies at all, right? Feels too subjective if it's just OP's POV for now
If he/she could just point us to that part of the chat he/she was referring to, that would've been fine and simple, don't you think?
It's not a court case. He's expressing grievances and isn't required to do anything. He hasn't even mentioned anyone by name.
If you believe he isn't being truthful you can do the work to figure if it's true but from what I've heard what he said isn't outrageous considering the environment of the server.
Yeah, and it's a blanket statement. Naturally, more people are affected and are asking for proof, especially since not everyone agrees.
He's stating things as fact, and if he's doing that he should be prepared to be questioned.
I'm not saying he's a liar, but I wanna see where he's getting this from. I'm just genuinely curious.
No I don't think that true the discord us Pretty nice and you only get banned if you break the rules.
thats not true. A few months ago, a guy exposed the 2nd acc of the author of "timeless assassin" with which he not only glazed himself, but also rudly behaved to others... Guess what happened? the guy was banned, and any post was taken down
For this case, I think it depends. Was there proof given that it was a second acct? Otherwise, it's spreading misinfo and harm and is a valid ground for ban
LOL, if they went that low, nobody knows. Have anyone thought that the mods maybe are 13-15 year old kids?
If they bully that many people at same time. Probably children in 15-16 years old.
I think they are brainless kids who are just given privilege. I don't really think about them, but their treating someone they know differently gets on my nerves. So I just tend not to think about it to have mental peace.
Look, not all mods are bad. I try and be pretty forgiving and kind to the members of the server. Sometimes I offer advice when I have time as well.
But, because it's not always the best place for healthy discussion, I created this subreddit so people can ask many of their questions without shame, fear, or being ignored.
I hope you'll stick around, regardless of how some people act.
P sure I am part of the problem. I only rage bait on the official discord.
This is all in general though, not q&a
yeah. and to be honest? they act like they are the best haha
I would love to see proof of this tbh
Right? Like, what if the dude deserved the ban? Wanna see the SS and context first before judging
That’s what I’m saying! I also have a feeling the people commenting don’t understand how things are structured as in who is mod, helper, trainee, etc
