• We just raised tourist taxes but they're still not high enough

  • I wouldn't have given be t my hotel and left Europe, embarrassed.

  • I would be less worried about the soldier and more about the horse.

The horses of those guards are known to bite. And let me tell you they have a crazy strong bite for a grazing animal. they can straight up bite off your nose.

  • When my pretty pony yells at you, you know you’re a twat.

  • So cringe lol

  • How embarrassing!

  • It's impressive to see how rude and frankly racist a lot of the people in the comments are

A lot of people are racist unfortunately. You've likely met a ton of people who came across as perfectly nice but harbored blatantly racist ideas. They just know to hide it in many settings, opting to let it out only when the social stakes are low or nonexistent, such as online or among the like-minded.

  • Love that they're up on the horse with their wee little blade, then the cop walks up with their rifle like "You good?"

They have to act cruel as in the horse and blade days.

Lol you're right, but it's all a social construct

You do know that the guards are all qualified soldiers with actual training, right? This is simply a ceremonial role, they aren't expected to fight with a sword on horseback.

they aren't expected to fight with a sword on horseback.

What are they expected to do if they're under attack while on duty? Do they have a hidden gun they pull out? Do they retreat to nearby stables?

The role is largely a non-combatant role, more ceremonial than anything. If things escalated to the point where you need gunfire, the nearby cops are exactly there for that reason. But to my understanding, there should be an armory nearby where they can draw out actual rifles with live ammunition.

If things escalated to the point where you need gunfire, the nearby cops are exactly there for that reason.

But, prior to the cops getting there and shooting, if say a mob or whatever mental image you want, are trying to dismount the soldier or force past the soldier, you don't think they'd use their training to use their weapons at their disposal yo protect themselves, and the Kong?

Also, what about the horse, does it get body armor, I know stupid question but I've never even thought about police horses during combat situations.

But the police are already there, as you can see in the video

You're right, "Fuck hypothetical questions when literally they're right there!" I'm sorry you're unable to understand the question I asked.

Well then yes, in a different situation than is shown in the video, the situation would be different and there wouldn't be a guy on a horse with a ceremonial sword.

I'm pretty sure a giant ape could handle a mob by himself, as long as there aren't any planes

Fuckin autocorrect keeping me down. . .

There is no prior, it took 16 seconds between him shouting and the armed cop being on screen.

Have you ever fought for your life? 16 seconds is a very, very long time to fight for your life.

16 seconds. Okay, he shouts, and the armed cops see him being swarmed by a mob or even an individual trying to dismount him or break past the horseman. Does the officer just spray and pray? Does the officer shoot towards the gatekeeper and the horse? Do you really think the soldier would not use the horse or his sword as the deadly weapons they are, under no circumstances at all?

There is no prior, it took 16 second

16 seconds prior? 16 seconds before? Idk, I think words mean things and when we use them as they've been defined we can all understand each other better. Is there possibly a word I'm using wrong that could be causing you to struggle with what I'm asking and making my words unclear? I'm pretty sure I have done my best explaining my question and idk what more I could do to help.

What I’m saying is that the armed police are already there. Maybe not in the narrow field of view of that video but they were there. It’s not as though she’s rushed to get there is it, she just wanders up to check on him. If you look at images of the household cavalry museum or horse guards parade you will see the police hidden in the background of the majority of them. Mobs don’t tend to just appear out of nowhere either that sort of thing takes time and this is in possibility the most heavily guarded part of London the next street is along is Downing Street. It is however a real sword and it could theoretically be used, you can never say never. He just shouldn’t ever have to.

It is however a real sword and it could theoretically be used, you can never say never.

Thank you for saying it. It is not just a prop. It is a weapon he would use if he needed to.

It’s not that he couldn’t use it but there are enough people who are better armed within meters of him that he shouldn’t have to. He is a fully trained soldier but what he is doing here is ceremonial hence the armed police next to him.

Of course, I may joke about stupid shit but that doesn't make me ignorant to the facts. I appreciate you trying to inform me, but just take a joke man

  • Who the fuck said “I told him to do it”? Then you’re both at fault. Fatty knows the rules, and so do you!

Yes, and he thinks he's much cuter than he is! 😂

  • The white women says "It's ok, I told him to do it". Yea like she's giving him orders or when she says something like that the rules go away???

It's obviously a mother trying to take heat from her son. If you think she means "it's okay" as in "it's okay to step over the lines"? No, that's not what she means. She means "calm down".

  • I was hoping the horse would bite him to teach him some concept of personal space. That horse definitely looked annoyed.

  • When in the UK you Got to show respect to the Law and to the king, like the rest of the sheeps

Bro what country don't you have to respect the law when you go? Sounds like you're a shitty tourist if so

fuck the king up the RA

You do realise the IRA killed innocent people including women and children, often in very brutal ways?

    Not my paedo king

  • dude who decided this was how they gotta react. this is why we won back in the war of 1812

I feel like the guy has to deal with enough shitty tourists that it was a bit cathartic for him.

  • What queensguard it’s the king now bitches

  • Damn I cringed so hard for him

  • He shoulda said “Or what?@

Great way to immediately get arrested.

  • [deleted]

    Are you…special?

Trying to flex against a queens guard

    They work together, Genius.

Ummm.... The police officer has a rifle and a handgun i think she can handle herself

Most likely asked “you good?” It’s possible the officer questioned the man about his actions. The officers are there to assist the queens guards.

The police are "supposed" to do a lot of things. But I feel these days they rarely do them.

I have about as much faith in the police as I do in Russia not trying to invade Ukraine again if there is a ceasefire.

Stop comparing our american cops to the ones in different countries. Those police around the queens guard 100% do their job.

Since you’re American, how could you possibly be 100% sure of that?

    1. As someone thats vacationed out to the UK and have seen how strict the police is near the queens guard.

    2. I know the queens guard is Military personel as well, due to me having a distant family member that is apart of the Red Arrows company (Royal Air Force, RAF for short) i am able to have conversations with men that were current/ex queens guard when they're off duty and they too have said the people on duty around any castle, rather it be Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace, Or Windsor, They all act with utmost decorum, No matter their position rather it be Police or royal guards.

  • Why would you even want a picture like that. People are dumb lol

You watch a video of a dude getting photographed. How dumb is that

So what exactly triggered you there?

Probably the same reason that triggered you to respond

Has to be equally as dumb but

To STILL get the pic is wild.

His mom was like “hunny still take the pic back up”

  • Silly man with a silly hat

  • All the Brit’s getting all mad in the comments lmao.

  • Why are ppl so weird. Like who on earth thinks that would be funny in any situation? It’s just corny and very rude.

  • Where is this located?

  • You do not mess with the royal 1st Dragoons, yes that chest plate is real, the helmet, and the sabre is all real!!!

    Legacy

Already the oldest line cavalry unit in the Army, it was promoted to guards status in 1969, when it was amalgamated with The Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) to form The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons).

    🇨🇦🤝🇬🇧

They’re tourist attractions. I highly doubt in the event of trouble or some kind of attack old mate is riding in with his sabre in hand lol.

What everyone else has said and yes, but also: I am reasonably sure anyone in the RHG would love to be the first person who quite legally ran down a tourist and shishkabobed them. It's a pretty and ornamental role but those sabers are sharp and at some point the actual armed response will be on a break and some bright spark will push it juuuuust far enough.

Their job isn't to shishkabob tourists, but actual invaders, which would have guns, rendering them completely useless. These horsemen are nothing but a joke and and drunk on the little authority they imagine to have.

Yes, real weapons. From 200 years ago, it’s a fucking sword. If anything real actually went down, old matey with the sword would stand aside for some sort of swat team armed with actual weapons. Lol

It's more than the bobbies have.

They are also armed with pistols!!!!

I don't think you get it, the tomb of the unknown soldier for instance has actual Marines with their sabres in guard position.. those are indeed real. The Royal 1st or the "roal 1st kings /Queens Royal dragoons are indeed real soldiers.. those are assigned duty stations with real Army weapons and Equipment.. That sabre is not for show , it's polished because regulations of the guard is to keep it and all gear and duty stations in proper condition and order .

  • Americans forgot their president called their national guards on them for peaceful protest and have ICE being assholes to people. meanwhile this guard is doing his job without arresting or murdering and shooting someone. Guess some people are snowflakes and cant handle being told off for not listening.

  • Why do these guards act like we’re in 13th century?

Because FACK off, that’s why. It’s not Disney land.

  • This isn’t January 6th. They have rules there.

I don't think the guy is American he folded up his jeans cuff above the shoes that is huge nono in the USA, there was a time when that was popular in rhe 1950s the era of Elvis Presly or its second run in the 90s it was a counter culture but today people will think you're an idiot. That is so unusual in the USA. looks more like hes from Poland or something? no idea.

He’s wearing a Grease shirt. He’s probably just trying to match the era.

  • Comical they have to yell at people. This happens all the time. You’d think they’d have something different

  • Tell that COP to STAY back TOO

police officer was checking to see if the guard was okah, and still managed to communicate that whilst staying behind the white line.

  • What a great representative of the USA

I doubt he's american, look at the jeans folded above his shoes, at the cuffs... that's just not normal in the USA, that was common in the 1950s the era of Elvis Presly as a counter culture statement, but today that is not normal and people will think you are an idiot. He also looks very pale to be an American, maybe Poland? No idea. most pale people in the USA tend to be Irish (no disrepect meant) and he's clearly not Irish decent.

    this is in england.

Unfortunately, we allow Americans without manners to leave the country.

Im assuming they mean the Tourist.

    USA?

According to my statistical calculation, yes 99.859% chance this waste of flesh is a fellow American.

I doubt it. The folded up cuffs of the jeans above the shoes tells me he's not American. Also wearing a baseball cap on vacation sounds a bit off. I think most would not pack a baseball cap, I could be wrong but just seems unusual.

There was a fad of folding up cuffs in the 50s Elvis era like the guy in the video, and again in the 90s but today most would think he looks like an idiot so very unusual. there is a San Francisco urban look, usually wearing loafers, no socks and rolling up jeans by a very very small amount just a tiny bit..... that guy went full tilt

  • [deleted]

That is quite literially the job of a guard

He’s literally just doing his job

  • They still have guards, who tf wanna go in there

english royalty and political figures are historically known targets for hate crimes, violent movements and terrorism. it makes sense that they'll have guards stationed.

it also partially falls back on tradition.

English royalty and political figures are historically known perpetrators of hate crimes , violence and terror. It makes no sense why they are still kept around.

tradition is tradition though, I guess.

  • The look on his face though 😂

  • "I am gonna put a ominous white line on the floor here and you are NOT allowed to pass it."

They know exactly what they invite there lmao

Seeing boundaries as challenges is fucking wild.

They invite people to use context clues and respect the rules.

  • Leave it to a jack ass.

  • Does he think he's actually guarding something with that silly outfit? Sometime should tell him that he might as well be a statue.

You realise these are actual military personnel? Go to to a guard in North Korea and start fucking with him because of his "silly outfit".

Go do his training and find out if he's joking

    You should go find out.

I'm sure I'll find a nice tourist attraction.

You respect the rules it's a nice tourist attraction. don't forget royal guards are military, they have insanely strict rules, just don't fuck with them and they're pretty coollol

They are also incredibly patient, so if you piss them off- you probably deserve it.

You might have missed the cop with an AR-15 and a sidearm. She's the actual guard.

That sword he's holding is both real and sharp, and that horse is fully prepared to kick and bite if needed

I was actually expecting the horse to bite him on comand XD

Well, you could always fuck around and find out.

  • FYI it's not 'ok because you told him to do it'

I think he means that it wasn't his fault

  • Don’t piss off a guy with an unsheathed sword on horseback.

    So it’s dictatorship

    No, it’s Duty.

Go try sneaking into the white house, you get shot at the gate, not shouted at by the royal guard

Having military guards means you are in a dictatorship

    Ok reddit

A constitutional monarchy actually, so no. But nice try. Would you like a cookie?

  • Could just shut the door/gate and give the guy a different job. It’s obviously a tourist photo-op.

its quite common for people to come and go its where the the changing of the guard starts from and there is also a muesuem there so its quit open to the public whilst housing military personal. This isn’t so much a tourist trap as it is tradition, a permanent guard has been there since 1660 why should we throw away hundreds years of traditions because some idiots lack basic logic.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/b6aspTX6OOU?si=D1LLtFnSUgnuXJYp

Lmao they e done the same thing for hundreds of years. Keep doing it LMAO tradition is fkn dumb humans are dumb.

Ignore the idiot tourist…It’s more so changing makes sense because the job isn’t needed. It’s perfectly ok to say he’s only there for tradition.

ah, you must be someone who would touch a painting in a museum etc

Please stay at home, never visit anyplace ever

Why I don’t understand how what they said was wrong? Genuinely curious

I’m not saying he was in the right to go over the white line. Just saying a horse guard is dumb in 2025.

It’s a security gate that happens to be a popular tourist spot you numpty. There’s literally a fully-kitted police officer standing there as well. You think that just because that SOLDIER is on a horse and in uniform he should leave his post and pose with visitors? HE’S ON DUTY.

Should Area-51 allow visitors inside just because of its significance in pop-culture? Should the North/South Korean military allow people to freely run around the DMZ because it’s a tourist attraction? Should I let people into my home because I happen to live in a historic part of my city?

I don’t know if equating this to allowing people to cross the DMZ in N/S Korea is really equitable.

I mean, Buckingham Palace isn’t exactly a warzone, the Royal Guard are a regular military force. Hence the checkpoints like the one in the video are guarded with similar rigidity.

While they obviously aren’t exactly analogous, the sentiment remains. That goes for all of my examples: Just because something or somewhere (or someone) is a tourist hotspot or an iconic photo op, doesn’t mean you’re entitled to access it.

Ummm. Yes, that would be sick.

Fair enough, come over for dinner some time mate 😆

Worrrd, I'll bring the whiskey & wines. Long as your dining room doesn't have the same rules of engagement as the aforementioned places 😅

    Great explanation!

    Numpty tickled me 😂

I never said he should take photos. He should be doing something else than whatever the fuck he’s doing here.

He's protecting the white line. I think he's doing a pretty good job 🤔

Yes, clearly the dude wearing shiny armor on horseback carrying a sword is doing an incredibly important job, and qualifies as legitimate "security". Something tells me the security at Area 51 is actually doing something important.

Any reasonable person can see that this kind of stuff is a tourist attraction.

Try taking photos with North Korean soldiers 🥹

    Yeah outside the white line

  • So much horse shit

  • Fuck that guard

You must be that tourist that touches the horse You are Pathetic

Nah idk why ur getting downvoted, guard was literally wanting to scream, look at his face just waiting lol, man charged it up. Listen the guy who walked in the box is in the wrong too, but the guard is a miserable person on that day idgaf what anybody thinks it’s clear as day It’s a security guards job to remove a customer causing problems, but do you think screaming immediately is going to diffuse anything… idc about it “being their training”, then their training sucks and needs to change. + don’t be surprised when clips like this just make people want to mess with them EVEN MORE now

The Royal Guard literally protect Buckingham Palace, they're the equivalent to those guys Americans have protecting the white house, along with the people guarding Downing Street

People don’t take photos posing with the guards at the white house, the guards are actually trained agents not outside the wall who, get this, actually actively guard the perimeter… there’s no way you can gaslight anybody to believing this is anything more than a show. People literally just go there to try to make them laugh and take photos with them because they are dressed in costumes😂, people don’t try taking photos with the cia guard in a black suit… further more I will repeat again, if the priority was even over 50% to actually protect then they wouldn’t be sitting there with 100 year old bayonets on a horse… give ur damn head a shake u ain’t fooling anybody… not equivalent at all. In the US we have something called “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier” which has ceremonial guards around it all the time, but when they need REAL guards the CIA comes out… same would happen with your dumb castle😂

    >cia guard

lol do you mean the secret service? Dumbass

The lack of understanding and respect people are showing here is astounding.

The royal guard have existed for hundreds of years and are not there to be a photo opportunity, even if that's how uneducated tourists treat them. They are active military service personnal, the weapons are real, the horses are military horses, crowd trained and will bite the f out of you if you are not careful. The white box is there to not only prevent people interfering with the guards duties, but also to prevent idiot tourists getting injured.

They may get laughed at or ridiculed for their livery and bearskin hats, but they are doing a job. They are not there as entertainment or as a photo prop. And, if the likes of the palace closed to tourists tomorrow, they'd still be there, doing their job.

"Costumes" they're ceremonial military uniforms, learn the difference

Notice how you didn’t reply to ANYTHING I said, and I even reference them as ceremonial at the end with my Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers comparison… yes I know they are ceremonial… literally EVERY point I made still stands🤡

You should probably research what the CIA does and doesn't do.

So you understood what i was saying but are arguing semantics, doesnt change a single thing :)
