Our game is so realistic

  • I've said this before and I'll probably say it again but Gaijin doesn't understand how battleship armour works

    i don't either

    Gaijin: You’re hired!

they might very well, but trying to upscale a damage model/engine built for aircraft, then changed to suit both aircraft and tanks, then to battleships, isn’t a recipe for success.

Well, bombers aren’t understood well too

Tf are people downvoting this for. He is right. Bombers were nerfed so heavily a single 20mm cannon round can snap an entire wing off and send you spinning to the ground. IRL its takes well over 1 20mm cannon round to take out a bomber.

it takes more in WT too. just aiming is way easier in WT than irl

Most people do not account for this. It’s why I dislike fighting RB players when I’m in sim controls. They simply go for deflection shots (that only the most talented pilots would have been able to make) and make them with ease. It’s a lot harder to aim in first person

I put one burst of 50cal into a TU4 and the whole thing fucking explodes because the snail in it's infinite wisdom made bombs immediately explode when shot

  • Holy fuck, talk about a golden BB! Thats like shooting a freight train with a .22 and destroying it. Like sure, its technically possible, but so is hitting the PowerBall thrice in a row, and about as likely.

Remember the magic bullet from Archer? Thats how it feels when this shit happens.

"Its like were the warren commision!"

I mean it actually isn't I think (at least not assuming both guns are mounted on ships)

Belt armour is impermeable at any range, and deck armour I think is too

Bow and stern plating is just 25mm so 4" HE could penetrate those at close range, but on properly implemented all or nothing battleship armor that's the worst it could possibly do. The internal protection shouldn't even be at risk of being hit, the interior compartments should detonate the shell before it gets near the armored bulkhead.

    quite.

And yes bow and stern could be holed, but the point of there not being much armour there is that there is nothing vital to hit!

  • Wow my god naval is broken

    volumetric bullshit?

The last time i tried naval, i had just gotten haruna from a lootbox. Spawned in the ocean map and lost both my front guns before i could even start moving. Never again lol.

Yeah thats the thing. After the Great Bot Purge the only players left are the NPC ships and no-lifers in their Iowas who know exactly where to shoot. I feel bad for any Yamato player who bought GE to get her; her ammo rack is incredibly easy to one-shot.

Like, its so pathetically easy in my Iowa I only target players who target me anymore. Im only grinding for SoDak rn

Lol yeah man there for a second it was the Chinese forums completely crashing out about it

Chinese forums completely crashing out about it

When isn't the chinese forums completely crashing out?

When they get a Chinese vehicle but it’s okay because it’s the best Abrams in the game.

    Banned something like 10k accounts

The bots are back at 3.3 but more vicious. Someone coded upgraded aiming mechanics to them and gave them a damage check. They now check to see if another bot can claim their kill. If so, they J’out and respawn. For that reason, they always dominate the top positions in battle.

  • If every WW2 navy had multiple decades and open design drawings to study and pin point accurate guns, they would be able to golden BB every ship as well.

  • I feel your pain. A 102mm HE round (fired by a bot of course) over pressured the turret AND barrette on my Arkansas. Caused the magazine to detonate instantly lmao

  • Well no that’s not what happened

Kill credit for ammo fire explosion is bugged

Bugged in what way? I'm guessing that you're saying that something else set the ship on fire and the fire killed the ship, but the kill was credited to the HE shell because that was just the last thing to hit before the ship died?

  • Haha funny hood go boom jokes aside it amuses me to no end that gajin doesn’t understand how armor works in any game mode whether it be tanks planes or ships they just can’t figure it out

    endless spaghetti code

  • The problem is that a guy made better armor model in Teardown for tanks singlehandedly and more than that made it easely usable by any modders that wanted to add tanks to it's mod by add on (name of the mod is TABS) wich is pretty damn incredible.

  • likely answer: it set a fire in the turret and it instantly traveled down to the magazine. it's possible ever since they changed how fire spreads many months ago. it's how i killed a scharnhorst in the des moines 3 games in a row.

  • So this bullshit is still not fixed after all these years. I fucking love War Thunder navy

  • Interesting ...

  • HMS Hood finally had enough of the jokes, I guess.

  • I was confused by this originally & was gonna try an counter argument it but said nah, an yet I've now seen this in game yesterday & pissed myself laughing.

An Armoured Cruiser has its magazines detonated by an AI Sloop, I wonder if AI's are accidentally causing unintentional magazine detonations through armour holes using HE shells? Or can a player do it maybe (I doubt a player would try unless they were desperate).

Said ACR player rage quit after it happened & tbh I don't blame them hah hah.

    Slight legend:

    • Armoured cruisers, two in game technically although rated correctly as battlecuisers in game, Tsubuka & Kurama classes (rerated between 1912 - 1923).

    • ACR, North American hull classification letters for Armoured cruiser.

    • Sloops (four types in game), K class Sloop in this case.

  • It feels kinda disingenuous to say a "single" HE shell did it when I can see it was hit numerous other times before that.

That's not how any of this works

Yeah okay I forgot that the kill notification does say ammo load exploded.

I know my comment didn't imply that whatsoever but I was also thinking of the other guy who said it was just a bug with how ammo fire detonations work which would also explain this with no bullshit.

  • Well Bismark sank Hood with 1 round so yeah

Bismarck used 15-inch AP shells, not a 4-inch HE pop-gun. The Hood was sunk by an AP shell that penetrated its deck. A 4-inch HE shell wouldn't even scratch a battleship's belt armor in real life, let alone detonate the magazine.

The consensus now amongst historians is that the shell didn't penetrate Hood's deck, but rather came in under the belt, aided by the trough of the ship's wake being directly over where the 4" magazine was (which is what seems to have exploded first).

See Drachinifel's excellent video on it for why.

While I agree with Drach's theory, calling it a "consensus among historians" is a bit of a stretch

To be fair the consensus is sort of a 'trust me bro' (Yes I know....), but given that military historians that I have talked to personally seem to generally concur, I think it is fair to say that I have seen such a consensus.
