holiday season means wanting to snack constantly. regular candy is too calorie dense. need options that let me eat more volume for fewer calories.

tried sugar free jello which works but gets boring. popcorn helps but sometimes you want candy, especially during holiday movies and parties.

shameless candy is lower calorie, about 70-90 per serving. each serving is decent amount of gummies compared to regular candy where 3-4 pieces is like 100 calories. the Wunderlicious Whales give good volume for calories.

i measure servings and eat them slowly during holiday movies. way better volume to calorie ratio than regular candy. anyone have other high volume candy options for holiday season?

  • Highly recommend making a big batch of Meringue Cookies. They're low cal, crunchy, and have protein. I find any old recipe and usually reduce the sugar a little since I prefer more subtle sweetness.

  • Sugar free hard candy. Jolly ranchers, Werther's, etc last a long time and taste good.

  • I’m a chocolate fun and mostly like everything chocolate. Personally what works for me is to eat a lot of fruit/berries together with a little chocolate of my choice Berries enhance the flavor of chocolate making it less sweet and bring contrast to my palate. So my advice would be to enjoy fruit as it is. I also enjoy a combination of Greek yogurt with the said fruit with a little chocolate

I like this too- also a little chocolate with popcorn- can be a tiny bite of a chocolate bar every few bites of popcorn or M&M’s - like half a pack thrown into popcorn (I guess I really use the popcorn to volume it up- but it makes the chocolate much sweeter so a very small amount feels like much more. Sorry in this option the candy itself is not voluminous- I find candy that’s “not the real deal” leaves me craving the real stuff which is harder/worse for me personally.)

Do you use salty popcorn? Sounds like a great idea!

I do! I’m also a big salt lover though!!

I love salty popcorn more than sweet popcorn! You inspired me now to have some lol

Hahaha enjoy! And try it with a little chocolate sometime for an especially nice treat!

  • Absolutely NOT the sugar free Haribo gummy bears. Or anything with a decent amount of artificial sweetner in it. Unless you're up for the pooping of a lifetime.

  • Smart sweets! I really enjoy the caramels and the ones that are similar to starburst.

  • Remember to be very careful of xylitol in sugar-free candies (and gum for that matter) if you are around pets during the holidays. Even a little of it can kill a dog.

Also: Seconding meringue cookies! When you significantly lower the sugar called for in the recipe, a really delicious tartness from the cream of tartar comes through. Really good and literally just egg whites, a tiny bit of cream of tartar, and sugar, whipped together into fluff and then baked on very low heat for a long time.

  • I’m afraid to eat sugar free candy bc of the GI issues it causes. I bought sour powder from Amazon and put it on grapes if I’m wanting that kind of experience. I also love to eat Drizzilicious for a sweet treat! Their s’mores flavor is good when I want chocolate.

  • Not really volume but I like nerd clusters. It’s 18 for 100 cal and if I eat too many, I get a stomach ache anyways so I find that they work for me.

  • Sugar free jolly ranchers

  • Any sugar free hard candy. Lasts in your mouth a long time and no calories. Jolly ranchers, Werther's, cinnamon, lemon drops, etc. or gum.

  • Choc zero dunkkes and zero sugar company shellz, highkey cookies, also i baked my own sugar free gingerbread cookies that are 24cal a cookie so I feel pretty good about eating them.

  • I can usually pull my sweet tooth with low cal hot chocolate and half oatmilk half water (or whatever ratio), usually only around 100cal total. The Helados mini fruit Popsicles are super good too! I'm still working out a good cookie recipe, but I think I've got each cookie down to less than 50 cal. Frozen grapes, as well! I know those are candy, per se, but sweets nonetheless!

When I do get an itch for candy, minis are my go-to; I love chocolate!! I try to stick to stuff with nuts so it's more filling, and I'm at least getting protein out of it. Most mini snickers/reese's are around 30cal per. It adds up, but at least it's easy to keep track of.

  • Candy is hard to eat in volume due to sugar content. If you get sugar free and eat too much, it can cause serious stomach upset. I try to sub things that are lower calorie but still help with wanting to scratch that itch. You can air pop popcorn, add a spritz of oil/water, place in baggie and add protein powder. Shake until coated. Wash grapes and let dry until damp. Place in baggie and add a packet of sugar free powdered drink mix (I like lemonade or limeade) Put on sheet pan and freeze. Take reduced sugar Cool Whip and place between two flavored rice cakes (caramel or chocolate) and freeze. Easy mock ice cream sandwich. Banana Nice Cream. Greek yogurt mixed with cheesecake sugar free instant jello pudding mix tastes like cheesecake. You can add crushed cookies or cereal for some crunch. These all contain sugar free ingredients but because it is not much, I don't have a problem with my stomach.

  • Zollidrops/Zollipops

  • Ninja creami protein ice cream

  • If you cook, Carolyn Ketchum is your best resource. Keto and low carb and low calorie treats are amazing at alldayidreamaboutfood.com/.

  • Cotton candy is crazy low in cals

  • Freeze dried candy! I’ve seen sour skittles among other mainstream candy turned into freeze dried snacks. They double if not triple in volume.

  • Drizzilicious bites are very tasty and candy coded to me, a nice sized little bag is 90 calories

  • Fill a mason jar with frozen sliced strawberries, add half a serving of agave syrup and some citric acid. It will slowly come to temp and melt together. It's great for when I need to quench the need for sour candy. I get frozen sliced strawberries from Target.

  • I buy freeze dried fruit from dollarama. So cheap and tasty! They have freeze dried strawberries (my favourite), apples, peaches, and kiwis (second fav).

    I also like...

Big Sky mints (they have sooo many flavours. Chocolate mint, oranges and cream, rocket pop, cotton candy, marshmallow... I still haven't tried their Kettle corn. Gotta get that one next)

Sugar free Ricola (original herb, green tea, and lemon)

    Sugar free Werther's

    Sugar free Starlight candies

Sugar free Kerr's chocolate mint candies

    Smart sweet gummies and lollipops

I like regular candy too. I'm just a figurative and literal SUCKER for hard candy ;)

  • My favorite high volume snack is to save up all the calories from snacks I would have eaten throughout the day and adding those calories to dinner or lunch instead. I'm not gonna nickel and dime myself into being hungry at the end of the day 🤷‍♂️
