Yeah, they only activate its Shiny with special events, much like how they do with the Shiny form of Smeargle. It’s normally once a year, and around spring time; March, April, May. So watch out for info on new events happening those months so you don’t miss it. Like previous years, they give you a week for the event, where you can open 3 boxes altogether to find one. Good luck! :)
Side note; it’s always good to stock up on Meltan candies so when you do find the shiny form, you can evolve it and possibly power it or a good IV one up. Also great for hunting for a perfect, 4* Meltan!! :D
I got 2 perfect modern and 2 continental. Couldn’t I at least get some variety?!? (But ok, that’s also where the bulk of my friends send from. But still!)
Even at 1/256 odds, 1000 checks only gets you to 98%. Which sounds high, but it means that when 1000 people do 1000 checks each you still expect 20 of them to have zero shinies.
I’m really wondering if it could be as high as 1/128.
I have over 150 friends from all over the world, and can send more gifts normally, and of these I save eveey postcard. Because of that I’m at 281 spawns as well at this point ^
ETA: A couple months ago showing my wife the scatterbug "minigame", i showed her how to pin and unpin gifts and stuff. Her first scatterbug was a shiny LOL. I had never gotten one at that point at all.

I’m on 613 and only just got my first shiny. 240 is low considering the shiny rate is full
1114 and caught my 2nd shiny yesterday…
And got at least 5 100% - some of the same kind. 😭

It’s a normal odds shiny, right? 1/512 outside of boosted events? 1000 catches only nets you ~85% chance of a shiny at that rate.
It can’t be full odds with how many people in my local discord have 4-5 shinies by 400 checks
Yeah, that does seem suspicious. That’s what sources list it as but I’m only at 319 and I know a ton of those weren’t shiny eligible.

Well if I based it on my local group (a fairly large community)
I’d probably get odds close to 1/128, very few of the super active players with 200+ checks don’t have atleast one shiny, many have multiples

You can unpin instantly after pinning the postcard and will still count!

When someone gives you their code it is fair game, and to collect all 18 varieties you have to save postcards from every region. :)
And sending requests within the next few minutes (and can send gifts from Continental)
Saving postcards from gifts!! The more you save, the more likely the spawn!!
