Is this too far gone to do anything with? I'm not great at sewing but I have scrap fabric and that iron in fabric tape which should help. If anyone has any tips they'd be greatly appreciated
Marked nsfw because this sub is incredibly wholesome and the shirt isn't
It's definitely salvageble, but it's not going to be simple. The easiest and most effective way is going to be stitching it to a donor t-shirt.
This post is a masterclass example, but it's obviously a labor of love.
That is absolutely amazing work! Something to aspire to but nothing I'd be able to pull off now
I already knew which post you were going to share but I clicked anyway because I wanted to see that art again <3
I've often wondered how those stand up to wear/cleaning.
Honestly, it's likely to be better than the original. The holes are reinforced and the very tight stitching will help the edges not fray
Thank you! I'd thought about that after seeing another post on here. This shirt is very baggy but I suppose it shouldn't be too hard to find an xl shirt at an op shop
I’ve heard a few Australian YouTubers I watch talk about op shops. I know they’re the equivalent of thrift stores in the us. But what does the “op” mean? I assume it’s shorthand for something. My thought was “opportunity” like the items get an opportunity to be useful again. Am I on the right track?
Nailed it. It's short for opportunity shop but no one calls it that, and from what I understand of thrift shops they're the same thing. Basically people donate items, they're sold and the money goes to charity
Yeah, I like op shop too. It rolls off the tongue nicely.
It is a fun word, like chazwazzer
lol, I have to know what that on is.
It's a simpsons reference haha

Sorry this happened to your shirt! I freaking love the "metal up your ass" line though
It's pretty fantastic haha
If you can't rescue the shirt maybe you could turn the images into patches?
I thought about that as an option. I wouldn't mind using them on a long sleeve or crew neck. You've got me thinking about it haha
I had a few old tour shirts like this and I used one as a vest patch and stitched the other to a different long sleeve tee. Hope you work something out it's hard to part with a favourite!
Love it. I bought a long sleeve from a band and one of the sleeves was shorter than the other. I cut off the designs from both sides and the arms and sewed them onto a denim vest. It looks sick haha
@wornrepairs on instagram. Not my account, but they do amazing work. Might be worth it for you to check their prices.
I live in Australia so this wouldn't work unfortunately
Given the location of the tears, if the fabric is in otherwise good condition I'd try inserting underarm gussets to patch it. You might have to finagle the side with the bigger tear a bit but the other side looks like an excellent gusset candidate. A potentially easier but similar fix would be to separate the front and back except at the shoulders and then reattach to a stripe of new fabric.
