Yes, the closeup is below. Unfortunately I didn't think to take a picture before. I didn't really think it was going to turn out, so I never anticipated sharing it.
Oh it's so lovely it looks almost like a ray of sunshine when it hits glass you know? A prism rainbow. Is there an easy way you could explain how you did it?
I don't know the right terms at all, so bear with me, lol. But you can see the couch is made of a fabric that has two colors already. The lighter color is kind of in tiny stripes. The black is what is falling apart, and that's why there was a hole. So I wanted to fix the hole and also reinforce the thin parts around the hole.
I just used embroidery thread, because that's what I had, and I love it in and out on the lighter color. I worked in blocks as big as my pieces of thread and then just moved to another random spot. There's a few places where I worked at an angle, but I still did the same thing.
Agree with the suncatcher comments - I think it's so clever to go rainbow because it's one of the few choices that is hard to interpret as a stain. This stain could only come from a cat that lay in sidewalk chalk and that's straight-up delightful!
If you're talking about the one on the left, it appears to use strips of multicolored rag rug type material alternating with tufted rows. I didn't make it, but the colors appealed to me.
Love this!! It looks like it was absolutely planned that way. Not too bright and distracting either but subtle and matches the base pattern so well. Great job!!
Wow, this is amazing!!
Having a dog I fear I will need to do this pretty soon with my own sofa, but I’m not quite sure how you can do it! Do you know the name of the technique??
I have no idea what it's called. It probably does have a name, but I just kind of did what made sense to me. I did reply to someone else trying to explain what I did the best I could.
I took the cover off the cushion to do it. And I kept the ends long and then wove them into the work on the back. It's super messy, on the back, but I don't think anyone is going to be pulling off the covers of my couch cushions to peek.
Oh my gosh it's so cute! It looks like a sun beam hit some glass just right and it's making a rainbow on the couch 😍
Thank you! I wasn't really sure what I was doing when I started but I'm really happy with how it turned out!
Oohh very nice! It's pretty! Do you have a before and closeup photo? Thanks
Edit: saw the closeup you commented below.

That’s exactly what I thought it was!!
i genuinely had to scan over the photo like 3x because i thought that's what it was lmao
Came here to say the same thing!
This was my exact thought! The colours they chose are so perfect!!
How adorable! It looks like a subtle little rainbow from a window 🌈
YOUR FIRST TRY, you do THIS?!?! Just wow. That’s beautiful.
Thank you! I have some experience sewing, I just haven't done visible mending before.
Stunning looks like like through one of those glass window thingies
It's called a prism 👍

Did you do this by hand or with a machine? I love the effect!
I did it by hand!
Permanent rainbow. It looks so pretty!
It looks awesome!
Very cool! Do you have a picture of the before?
No. I wish I had thought to take one before!
No worries! I do the same! Really lovely work here though!
Ohhhhhh, that is BEAUTIFUL! Well done.
This is gorgeous and endearing! I hope this mend brings you joy for many years to come!
This is beautiful! Looks like a sunbeam on the couch! How did you do it OP?
I shared in another comment how I did it. Or I tried to at least.
I really like the look of this! It reminds me of a sunbeam coming through the window! Great job!!
Unrelated, but is that pillow stuffed with rainbow puff balls?

Oooo I see it now. Thanks!
Love ❤️ Looks like a prism

I can’t fathom how that works or like how you did that I mean
This is incredible! I love it :)

Ok, thank you! ☺️
This is so subtle but beautiful!
Ooooooh it looks like rays of light fell on your couch! It's beautiful!
This is BEAUTIFUL op!!!!
How did you secure the threads on either end?
