I’m a solo Youtuber editing my own talking-head videos in Premiere Pro

I’m not a beginner, but I’m also not a motion designer. I know how to use presets and effects, that’s not the issue

What I struggle with is deciding what to use and when. I often find myself hesitating between multiple presets, overthinking whether motion is even needed, either adding too much or skipping it completely

I already have packs and tools, but the decision part still feels mentally draining and slows me down

How do you usually decide when and what kinds of presets to use? Do you follow any rules or is it more intuitive?

  • I keep it simple. I have some overlays ready to zoom and movement and go by feeling trying to add variety and close up for important parts. Then I make few montages of something more complex to keep it interesting. So just watching at it and maintaining the pase.

I don't mean to be insulting, but KISS is one of the greatest principles in creative production. The content should be engaging, and you should only need to finesse it to keep it watchable. Cutting out diatribes and tangents to keep things short and on-topic. Re-arranging bits, so if someone remembers something later on that should have been mentioned earlier, now it's mentioned earlier. What you do should not be distracting, and it shouldn't be obvious or noticeable.

If you're relying on motion or effects to keep people's attention, you're missing the forest for the trees.
